Refurb As Good As New
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had an iPhone since the 3GS, skipping only maybe 1-2 iterations at the most. As far as streaming devices go though, I've always had the more PC friendly Rokus (I currently have every.model but the Roku 4 and 1, but the 4 is the only one I haven't owned). I absolutely love Roku devices. Every one of them. Never have I had any significant desire to look at other streaming devices because Roku simply provides the best value and up until the last year they were unmatched by a country mile in terms of channel variety and quality. Even now, I'd look to buy another Roku if I were looking for another streaming option. HOWEVER, that is only because I got my Appme TV. While always happy with my Roku's I always kept an eye on Applw TV's because I try to maintain as much seamless integration between all of my tech gadgets and devices and having had an iPhone for so long that was one area I sorely missed compatibility. Over the years my desire to have the ability to take advantage of AirPlay between my phone and an Apple TV finally became too strong to resist and when I easy the price drop to $49 i finally pulled the trigger. It's a good device and I would probably sound more enthusiastic about it if I didn't already have my Roku's, but the fact that I can now so easily play pretty much anything on my phone straight to a TV or monitor wirelessly is worth so much more than $49. It's a convenience that no matter how much you think you want or know all about, if you haven't been able to take advantage of it whenever you want on your own devices in your own home...seriously, it' should not even be considered a convenience for heavy streamers. It' was hard enough to do without before I got the Apple TV but now i can't do without. It's sort of ridiculous to be honest. I almost, not quite but almost, am uncomfortable being in a room in my house that "only has a Roku. I know. But hey, when I'm home I am pretty much online browsing or streaming at all times and it's a huge, huge plus to be able to not only AirPlay a video from phone to TV but probably even more importantly to be able to turn on the "Mirror" function and give my rapidly digital screen depleted eyes a break and use my phone as basically a keyboard/computer all-in-one with my 50" TV as the monitor. I shall say no more because if the sort of scenario I just mentioned sounds appealing you should already have another browser open and on your way to making this purchase. If you don't need your phone to integrate at all with your streaming device my two cents would be go get a Roku. More channels. More models, each with their own strong quality - just overall better value. Hope this helps T

Tried to save a few dollars on 4 hour sale.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Didn't realize when I ordered it that it was "re-furbished" or returned. The remote control didn't work so I sent the unit back. Will pay special attention in the future to make sure the products I purchase are not "Re-furbished".

Just buy the new AppleTv
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For whatever reason I keep having an issue with playback due to something about HDCP. It works ok for Netflix and other native apps but you can't download new apps.

Good vs Last Year's Roku 3 and Streaming Stick - N
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Much better than Roku. We have a Roku 3 (2014 model), Roku Streaming Stick (2014 model), the Apple TV 3, and a 4-channel Tablo DVR. We use Apple TV's native channels to watch Netflix. Using the Tablo for over-the-air network TV, mirroring from an iPad Mini 2 to Apple TV 3 provides better performance (less buffering# by far than Roku Streaming Stick, and somewhat better than Roku 3. Apple TV has the same quantity of RAM and a slightly faster single core CPU as the Roku 3, so the extra speed must be coming from a more efficient CPU or GPU #or both) and better firmware code. It beats the pants off the Roku Streaming Stick's hardware. Apple TV's seamless streaming of iPad and late-model Mac screens with Airplay is a good reason to choose it. If you're looking for voice control and a touch-screen like user interface, you're best served by the 4th generation Apple TV coming in October 2015.
