||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the classic Window's "Blue Screen" error messages, and took my 2007 Gateway laptop into Geek Squad. They said...."oh yeah, virus for sure, easy fix." So I signed up for Geek Squad at $199, only to be told two weeks later that it was a hardware issue. Not a problem, I'll have a new mother board installed. That's where things went south. When I first brought the laptop in, they said service was going to be $199, but why not just take that $199 and put it into a new laptop? (why are you selling me computers?). After all, my "vintage" 2007 laptop could be replaced for $300 and be "so much faster." This was all before them even firing up my computer, sales pitch 101. Ok, my computer needs a new mother board, which I was willing to pay for, but was again told I'd be better off spending my $300 for a new mother board on a new computer. Again they pointed out the $300 new laptop with "crazy speed" vs the 2007 Gateway I had in my hand. Because Geek Squad knows so much about what I use my computer for, because they are the smartest ones in the room, because of their mad skills trying to up sell the customer to this $300 laptop, I walked. They got me for $199 just to tell me my computer was junk. Ha, you got me Geek Squad. But you won't get me again. Just a couple of tips for ya Best Buy, if you wish to continue down the path of brick and mortar retail. 1. Refund the customer's money if they pay for a service, but can't perform said service. 2. Don't push the entry level machine on every consumer. If everybody wanted the cheapest car, the world would be filled with Yugo's. That company no longer exists. 3. Listen to a customer's needs before pushing product ideas upon them. I had zero interest in a $300 laptop, but instead was going to purchase a $2500 iMac for.....wait for it......a NEED I had, i.e. photo editing. Ask what the customer's needs are, sell to match needs. 4. Keep Geek Squad fixing computers, and Best Buy employees selling computers. Core Competencies. Don't mix the two. By the way, where's my $199 refund? Best of luck with that brick and mortar big box store thing.

Love the training available

I took the laptop in for an appointment and the person I met with seemed to be too bothered to help and not interested in answering questions. I was disappointed in that encounter and hope that in the future customer service will be as advertised.

Knowledgeable staff
