I bought this on a whim at my local Best Buy. I always browse new releases, and especially Steelbooks. When I saw this, combined with the fact it is a Mondo exclusive, I had to get it. I have seen bits and pieces of GITS before, but never the full way through. I was impressed with the story, and the animation looks great. This Blu-Ray transfer really did the movie justice. I have never really watched anime styled movies before, but this was a great start and I'll be checking out more.

This is a classic anime movie that recently got a modern Hollywood remake. Personally, I think this original version is much better as it's less cliché and delves more into the philosophical aspects of what it means to be human. If you're a fan of anime or someone who watched the Scarlett Johansson flick and is now curious to see what the original movie was like, I highly recommend checking this out. There are some pretty significant differences that I don't want to spoil here.

I'm a sucker for any of the Mondo steelbooks so this is probably the 5th copy that I've owned of GITS lol. The cover art is fantastic. If you haven't seen it yet it is a must for any fan of anime. This and Akira are probably two of the best Anime films ever. I can't say enough about how great it is, don't believe me? Watch it for yourself.

I own 4 copies of this movie. A beautiful edition of this Bluray with a slip that makes the artwork even cooler. Restoration is amazing. And supplemental short doc about the people behind the film and the making of is worth it. If you can get this for $15 def get it over the normal 4k Blu-ray release, but it's both the same thing on the inside if you weren't aware.

An anime classic! A serious animated sci-fi thriller that raised the level of respect for cell animated featured films internationally to an art form. This is a stunning 4k upgrade that is an improvement on all points... and this is my third version (after VHS and DVD over the years). Action packed and unforgettable!

I can't believe it took me 25 years to see this. I've only seen the Blu-Ray version as I'm all 4K ready except for the player, but I don't really see much difference in resolutions with animation like I do with live-action film. Sorry I can't comment on the 4k version. The print is beautiful, and the sound is great, so there's nothing to criticize here.

Remember watching this long time ago, still gives me the chills. This is the original version and no new content added as far as I can tell. Love it. Seen other versions of this and still prefer the old school. Just like it should be. Hate reboots', they don't tell the stories on how they were meant to be told. Hope the new film stick to the original story line. Should be all Asian cast but i like Scarlett Johansson as an actress. Hope she does well for the film.

I'm old enough to have already owned this first on Vhs, then DVD, Blu-ray and now finally on 4k. This was first released on 4k in Japan and this Lion's Gate release is not taken from the Japanese scan. I have not seen that release, so I can't comment on which is best but I can say that this new 4k is much better than the previous Blu-ray. The picture is light years ahead of the Blu-ray and the audio is much better as well. It features a new Commentary Track along with some other Special Features available here for the first time.

Stunning Steelbook and great movie! I am not a big steelbook collector but this one is so good I'm happy i spent the extra couple of bucks. As for the Movie, the purists will say the HDR negatively affects the original colours of the movie but personally having watched the blu ray and then the 4k, id say its a worthwile upgrade for the audiotrack alone.

Ghost in the Shell is one of the most well known names when it comes to influential Japanese animation. This movie was highly recommended to me by a good friend of mine, and it lived up to the hype. I am not a movie enthusiast or a true anime fan, but I do enjoy a good movie regardless of which format it is at. Ghost in the Shell provided a really good time, and now I want to watch the rest of the movies and series available.

Wow, look at how lovely the artwork on this steelbook is! Plus the sleeve has some interplay with the art of the steelbook itself. Definitely one of my best looking cases. The movie itself is a classic, and I think this is a solid version to own. I'm always a big fan of Atmos sound as an option, even if this movie isn't the best showcase for Atmos itself.

I think the steelbook is worth picking up since it's much less of a premium for Ghost in the Shell than most movies. I also like that you get the digital copy. Minor annoyance is that you can't swap audio to original Japanese on the digital but you get Dual Atmos on the disc so that's well wroth it. I owned this on Blu Ray and felt the upgrades were worth it.

This is an awesome movie first, and I already have every version of Ghost but I had to get this for the steelbook artwork. I didn't get it for the 4K aspect of it. But its worth having for two reasons, for me, that is...Maybe in the future when I get a 4K when my 3D tv blows up. And the second is the entertainment world is getting rid of physical media.

The movie still holds up 25 years later and remains one of the best iterations of the GitS franchise. I bought it primarily for the steel packaging, which looks very nice with the BD sleeve. Digital code only applies to Fandango Now and Vudu, so if you use other apps like Movies Anywhere, you'll have to accept it elsewhere or just use the BD.

Most who would buy this have already seen it and know Ghost in the Shell is a timeless classic that inspired many films like the matrix. Now this 4k blu ray is the best the film has ever looked or sounded, not to mention the best buy exclusive steel book is very sharp so in my opinion everyone who has and has not seen it get this 4k version its great.

This anime is on my personal list of movies that will withstand the test of time along with Princess Mononoke and Akira. I'm always letting people borrow my movies to introduce them to anime, but since I usually end of never getting them back, I never lend out G.i.t.S. I've repurchased Mononoke more times than I care to admit. If the live action movie with Scarlett Johansson turns out at least half as good then it will still be worth seeing.

As a long time fan of this anime, I still own a DVD copy, I cannot stress enough how awesome this new 4K/HDR remaster is. This movie has never looked or sounded better. I don't even have surround sound, but the new Dolby Atmos mix really pops on my TV speakers compared other versions I have watched. I watched this from disc on an Xbox One X.

I wrote a review on Cowboy Bebop earlier and the same sentiment is gonna reflect for Ghost in the Shell also. Along with Akira, those are probably the Triumvirate of classic anime viewing. If you're looking for the pinnacle it doesn't get much higher. The Lieutenant Major doesn't mess around and she shows you that right in the beginning. Great storyline and character building, when the action is present it doesn't dissapoint...this is a must have for any anime fan.

As any anime fan knows, Ghost in the Shell (or GitS, as it is known in shorthand) is a cyberpunk anime with a message about what it means to be human. Basically, its like the Matrix trilogy, but shorter, better, and fewer speeches. The main character is Motoko Kusanagi, who goes on the trail of a hacker known as the Puppet Master. To say more would spoil the plot, but suffice to say, if you love cyberpunk action, futuristic dystopian cities and teeth-gritting action, you will love this. A classic anime from the '90s!

An enjoyable film that should appeal to sci-fi fans in general, regardless of their feelings on Japanese animation. The steelbook cover are is quite good and the case arrived undamaged, which I appreciate.
