The original sci-fi anime classic returns, with both the Blu Ray/4K discs and digital copy included. Ghost In The Shell was first released in 1995 and sort of set the standard for sci-fi anime movies at the time, incorporating adult cyber-punk themes with intelligent dialogue. There's plenty of violence and gratuitous female nudity, so parents should be aware of that. My only gripe is the same one I had when the movie first released...at only about 80 mins, it's kind of short (but this is typical of feature-length anime movies). Still, it's stood the test of time as a cult classic and looks better than ever here. Definitely worth it.

This is an anime classic, and in my mind it sits alongside Akira as one of the best. Like Akira, it's a hugely influential movie in terms of style -- any recent movie I can think of with even a hint of Cyberpunk/Techno-Noir aesthetic owes a great debt to classics like Ghost in the Shell and Akira (not to mention Blade Runner, which in turn clearly influenced these movies). But enough about the movie. The 4K UHD disc itself is excellent. The resolution bump from 4K isn't hugely noticeable, but the higher bitrate and better encoding is -- the overall improvement is well worth the price of admission. The English dub audio sounds great, too (I haven't yet watched it with the Japanese track).

Finally released in the US, I grabbed it the moment it hit pre-order. When you start the disc up, it says to use an HDR display (which I have). I chose Atmos as my sound format (using upward firing sit on tops of my fronts). Using a Vizio P-Quantum 65" 2018 model. I can't really tell that the picture is a whole lot cleaner, but the colors seem to pop a bit more. The HDR is used sparingly, for parts of Tokyo's lights and car headlights around the city. The biggest improvement is in the audio. The soundtrack feels so much fuller and the use of the channels for the audio is nice (vs 2.1). The vocal track is also well done and clearly uses the center channel, and everything is clear. Overall I'm happy.

This is one of the must watch anime movies from last century, in the 1900s. Decades ago when animation was drawn by Asians and their hands with pencils. Although this movie was one of the first to utilize the computer graphics that have taken over a lot of the more complex scenes. Ghost in the Shell was still a sight to behold at the time. It's a great movie, although maybe a little convoluted and wordy. But if you're used to the cyberpunk anime or the series, this is definitely for you. And this edition comes with a beautiful steelbook. Even the slip cover is nice. If you can get your hands on it, it's definitely worth the price of entry.

Very good, one the true classics in anime. Does feel a little slow at times but the story is excellent and art style still holds up.

It's rare that animated movies in 4k would boast significantly more details over there standard Blu-Ray counterparts, but this one looks sharper and is really about its HDR capabilities. There are some stand out scenes where colors really pop off the screen. If you are already familiar with this movie then you already know that the colors throughout the film can have a muted tone or lack of vibrant colors, so when colors are there to be seen, this is where this 4k transfer really shines. The story itself is one of the best in anime, a true classic. If you purchase the steelbook, this is one of the best steelbook packaging I own. The translucent slip cover with major Motoko Kusanagi in her skin and underneath on the steelbook itself is her endoskeleton the two images merge when the slip cover is on the steelbook. Beautiful art and design. Sound is a little flat, maybe a slight, very slight improvement over the standard disc.

I bought because I wanted to finally have a physical copy of the movie. This a great movies for any fans of Sci-fi anime!!

I need go watch again, it was hard for me to follow. Might enjoy the movie more after another rewatch or 2. The actual movie looks really good for a 4k however.

It's Ghost In The Shell! I have acquired almost every version and episode of this phenomenal manga series. So many later movies were based on, or urged by this movie. The wife hates it because it's a little risque, but no where near as much as other movies, I think. It's all sensationalized, but it's the plot that rocks. Would Matrix have happened without this movie? Good question, and so many others too. I think not. People rip Tron for being so (something), but that movie pushed technology and the whole art a lot farther too! GREAT MOVIE, Spawned a great series. Hopefully there will be more. Great special features here too!
