This movie was hated from the moment it was announced. To little surprise, almost everyone jumped on the hate bandwagon once released. Now that hopefully this is all settled, let's just judge the actual movie given. This movie borrows very liberally from Blade Runner, and visually interesting from start to end. Solid performances help hold the visuals together and you have a strong end result. Compare it to the animated original, you will have a bad time. If you watch it, just be quiet, ignore the pre-release hate, and have a good time.

My star rating is based on the 4k HDR and not so much the movie. The enhanced resolution allows for an overwhelming amount of detail and the HDR is great for the frequency of vivid colors. Wouldn’t necessarily recommend the movie itself though. The ingenuity of the visual effects carries the convoluted story. I wouldn’t say it’s bad—- just unremarkable. Worth a purchase if you wish to showcase a 4K HDR TV, but holds little replay value outside of that. I got it for $9 on Black Friday. Feel it was worth the price.

Ghost in the Shell is a live action adaption of an anime which itself is an adaptation of a manga. There is a lot of story to take in here, but I think what they were able to fit in the film worked fine within the confines a movie. I really enjoyed seeing the characters brought to life and seeing the city from the anime shown on film. There is some pacing issues and some of the deeper themes from the original story about what it is to be human are lost, but the movie is still fun to watch and fun to look at! Check it out!

This film has a certain creative style throughout, images that make every scene pop/stand out and make you wonder, wow! Could this really be our future one day.., then it also has the top notch action and acting from Scarlett Johansson and her fellow cast + interesting story about the main character's search for her true past which is being hidden away from her and the people responsible for stealing life away from her and turning her into something less than human, but more than she could ever imagine she could be.

Interesting remake of the original 1995 anime Ghost In The Shell. The first time I saw this 2017 version I did not appreciate as much because it does not really capture the philosophy of the original. After watching the 1995 anime though and then revisitng this film afterwards, I like how they tried to reimagine several of the scenes in a fairly faithful way. They do change some things that didn't need to be changed, but they also tried to nicely re-create some of the more memorable moments. Ultimately this is a really nice eye-candy movie for your 4K system.

If you are not familiar with the anima, this might be a bit confusing for you, however, it is worth the watch. Major is fully robot except for her 'ghost' or brain which is fully human. She is a stellar member of an elite force stopping crime in a futuristic city. Her problem comes when a killer begins planting doubt in her head about who she is. A few vulgar words and a skin that makes her look naked (doesn't show anything) plus of course violence in the for of action scenes makes this movie PG-13.

I've watched the older GITS movie and series and still felt this was a very good movie. I didn't like some of the mechanical like movements sometimes made by Scarlett Johansson, but other than that I enjoyed the movie. Excellent graphics and have always liked the story lines from the movie and the series. I would recommend buying the movie. I bought the UHD version which came with the UHD Blu-ray, HD Blu-ray, and and code for the digital HD version which can be redeemed through iTunes or UltraViolet.

The film is full of color and style that at first glance seems to capture the environment of Ghost in the Shell perfectly. Though one viewing cleared up that miscommunication right away. While GitS is definitely sewn into the film, this film plays out more like a "hits" list of over stylized and underrealized segments brought together by director who doesn't have enough creative gull to push the film over the top and into proper territory. I'm not one to weigh the film up against the original, nor any of its follow up features, or even its original roots in manga form, but I do feel if one is going to set out to make a film of the same name and characters, it should at least embody the spirit and energy of its original source, which this film fails at doing when it comes to actually telling a story. And even worse is it's watered down to appeal to the American masses - it oozes this ugliness from every pore, even down to the famous finale that opts for ugly CG to avoid the more mature content if the scene - which visually plays into the emotional value in the original GitS. There is some entertainment to be taken from the film, but ultimately left me disappointed, as I expected the film to have at least a sliver of depth to it, only to be blasted with visuals and an unnecessary plot in the end. Rental worthy at best, and that's if you're watching it with half a brain at midnight. Forget the original exists too, or else you could find yourself offended by the fragile handling of the source material.

This film had a difficult task of being constantly evaluated next to the source material it was based off that was amazing. Is the film amazing? No. Is it bad or deserves as much hate as it got? No. It is a solid film that has great visuals, great production values, and great 3D -- I recommend that you watch this film in 3D over 4K. The steelbook looks really nice. I know a steelbook's artwork is subjective in how people rate it, but I think the artwork for this steelbook was really well done.

While this holds loosely true to the original of the same name (there were quite a few deviations), I found I enjoyed this movie. Could they have done a live-action adaptation of the original with an Asian actress? Should they have? Yes, to both questions. Those objections aside, this is an enjoyable popcorn movie. Seeing it in 4K in the comfort of my own home is quite nice and the visuals are amazing to see. If you can get past the above mentioned gripes, I would recommend getting this movie.

This movie is tough. Beautiful and unique. But also controversial and that tends to overshadow some enjoyment. It's only money. Spend it lol.

I was amazed at the CGI and visuals. They built a fantastical realistic future world. If you never saw the Anime, this would be WOW!!!. If you can accept the changes to more of an origin story for the main character, then it all pays off. But don't expect the confident, suave Kusanagi that we're used to. This movie is more like a Robocop version - she has to figure out her origin to find her humanity.

I got my steelbook and while I love the deep color red in this packaging, it came dented and I had to exchange it for another at store. The problem is that the system was down at the store so since this is limited, I had to buy another good copy (because it would sell out before the ststem would probably come back up for me to exchange) only to return my dented copy later. Come on Best Buy! Get your systems working so I don't have to put an extra charge on my credit card temporarily!

I decided to watch this movie in IMAX 3D when it came out in theaters and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't great but it was a decent action movie. It doesn't really stick to the source material but it doesn't really have to. I know a lot of people were disappointed because of that but I think that it was fine. The ending was a little iffy and that did kind of take me out of the movie. But this packaging for the film is beautiful, definitely one of my most favorite steelbook designs.
