    Ghost in the Shell

This was a fun movie of a completely different sort. I thing it falls in the cyberpunk genre. Very "science fiction". The visuals in this movie were quite wild and pretty cool. The reason I only gave this movie 4 stars, was that personally I wished there was more character development for all the characters. I wanted to know more about their history, and of the world. This is a great movie if you like science fiction in a futuristic dystopian setting.

    New Steelbook

I missed out on the initial steelbook release but I am happy that the movie was rereleased in a new steelbook. I do like the art in this one more than the previous release. As for the film, it was okay. The effects looked kind of cheap and it was pretty boring (this director also did Snow white and the Huntsman, which I thought was kind of boring as well), so his style is not to me liking. I am a fan of the anime films, which is why I wanted this movie.

If you're a fan of the series, this movie offers a great "what-if" scenario for the series. I very much enjoyed it and the visuals are superb on my OLED tv. The story might be a rethreading of GITS 1 and 2, yet it is unique enough to give it a watch. Johansson does a wonderful job, and the world feels believable as the first movie.

The anime is one of the best ever done. And hats off for director Rupert Sanders for attempting to get it right in the real. It's a good movie and tries its best to stay with the original story. And Scarlet is fair as the character of Major. But nothing can beat the original. It's worth a look just for the visuals and good attempt at making a classic in the real world. Artistically speaking. But face it I'm a fan of both the anime and Scarlet so I bought it anyway.

Didn't catch this in the theater so decided to grab it for my bluray collection. Not a bad film. The visuals are stunning and it seems to hold up to the original Anime. Not sure why there are so many complaints about it not sticking to the original film. I've watched both and this is pretty darn close. I think people are read in between the lines too much for the much celebrated anime as there really isn't that much missing in this live action adaptation.

    Beautiful steelbook for avid collectors

I am reviewing on the basis of the packaging itself (movie itself I love, even against the opinions of friends, I personally enjoyed this film. And to give background, I'm an avid fan of the Ghost in the Shell animated series and original film) But for the packaging itself, it's a beautifully vibrant red, smooth finish steel case and of all the steel books I own, it is among the prettiest. Watch this film for yourself and do not rely on the opinions of others for judgement of the film, but I highly recommend owning this steel book if not for that, then for the sake of collector purposes as it is a beautiful steel book to have in your collection.

This is a great movie for anime lovers who like the original Ghost In The Shell movie. They did a great job adapting the original movie to live action. And the 4K bluray version is the best in picture and sound quality as you could get. The HDR makes the colors pop out on the screen. I like the original and this one comes in second place when compared to the original. Also if you like the original movie the 4K bluray version will soon be released too. A fun and interesting movie for science fiction lovers and anime lovers too.

ghost in the shell probably was the biggest disappointment at the box office this year, much it had to do, i believe, for the not asian cast for major. i enjoyed this movie pretty much, it was solid, good visuals, and solid acting. for the blu ray release i loved the fact that they kept the fullscreen ration for the 4K , the 3D and blu ray. i saw the anime film but not a fan, so maybe thats why i enjoyed it and didn't bother me at all scarlet on the main role.

I like the Steelbook artwork and the video quality of the blu ray is excellent. As for the movie, I really liked it and found it to be rather unique compared to your average action movie these days. I feel that this movie was incredibly underrated and unfairly painted in a negative light for controversial reasons I do not want to entertain. The film was respectful of the anime/source material and the soundtrack was great. The visual design, cinematography, and music really stood out and there's a great sense of atmosphere and place that will appeal to fans of Blade Runner. Overall, I really liked this film and would recommend the blu ray.

Finally getting the chance to watch movies in 4K and this was a great start to begin seeing the difference. And the way some of the scenes have intense blacks really show off the benefits of HDR. I've also ordered the animated original version and am going to compare that one to this but for now this is a pretty decent movie with a great demo to test your tv

Beautiful but flawed. Overall the visuals of this film is what gives it a 4 star for me. The story is obviously somewhat flawed and campy at times. This is mostly expected do to the fact they were adapting an anime to live action. It's hard to make something like this perfect, but I do believe the visuals paid the original justice.

So I've watched this movie a couple times and honestly I don't understand I hate that people have for it. I mean I even watched The Ghost in the Shell anime movie and to be honest the characters look almost exactly like the one in the live release this one. I mean sure the story is a little bit different the anime focuses on politics this movie focuses more on action adventure, but the spirit of the movie is there and so are a lot of the iconic scenes from the anime.

Let's be honest, most live-action versions of animated works are to be desired. This was a good effort of such. Taking from multiple storylines of the GIS series and movies they made a decent version of it. Could SJ be more this or that? Sure. But what we got was a decent version of a fantastic world and amazing concept. If you liked this movie, and have not seen the animated items, check them out. They are great. The original movie and then the Stand Alone complex are great. The 2nd animated movie can be skipped. And the new Arise and newest animated movies are good. If you want a glimpse of the future watch this.

I never read the manga from which the movie is based on, so I just watched it from the aspect of a standalone movie. I didn't like it much when I saw it in the theater because the story line was a little vague, but watching it for the second time on video made me appreciate it more. Great visual effects. The world reminds me of Blade Runner, only much brighter. The opening fight scene is truly remarkable in 4K Ultra if your AV setup accommodates it.

A film that feels five times longer than it is. Truly a waste of potential as the original Anime is a milestone in animation.

I saw this at the theater and thought it was OK and decent. I was only vaguely familiar with the anime series but never watched any of them. I was told a friend that it was visually fantastic in IMAX 3D. I thought it looked great in 4K on my LG OLED. I can't compare it to 2k bluray, as I hardly ever watch the bluray version anymore. This film is in 1.78:1 which is great, so the film fills your entire TV screen with no black bars. The Dolby Atmos sounds pretty good, and you get some decent sound impact in a few spots in the movie. I would rate the overall movie as above average, and have no regrets adding it to my collection.

I love a good "hard science fiction" story/movie and this film has grown on me the more I watch it. If you enjoyed the original anime films, or are a fan of films like Blade Runner I think this is a must buy. The 4k format is perfectly matched for a film like this. Stunning visuals throughout. Ignore the critics, this is a legit serious sci fi film with a great story and amazing scenes. I'm all in. You should be as well.

If you've always been intrigued and fascinated with Major Motoko Kusanagi's characterization, both physically and mentally, and also philosophically, then this real-life rendering of her persona will fulfill your further curiosities. As the Major deals with a continuum of nefarious characters and their warped aspirations in a dystopial high-tech society, she ponders and self-reflects on her true identity and strong sense of self. It would be extremely difficult for any human to portray and capture the exact essence of Motoko Kusanagi's sublties and nuances, but SJ comes about as close as one humanly can!

I did not see this when it came out in March. It was somewhat confusing to me the backlash this movie got from the dreaded social media. It's a shame that there won't be a sequel as the world they live in is a sight to see. Upon watching it I really enjoyed the movie. It's a little disjointed in it's plot but the 95 anime I had to watch a few times to get it. The picture quality on this disc is stellar as well as the sound. Recommend.

I never saw the anime, but I think Scarlett did a great job despite the criticism she got. I mean who cares about race in movies anymore. They are even considering either a female james bond or a black one, which I think is awesome. Lets go beyond race and just look at the characters' mannerisms, and if that actor/actress can portray that "character" accurately then I say WOOHOO. Besides Scarlett looks amazing in a CG nude suit thing.
