Good UHD Picture and audio. Digital code redeemed through Vudu for 4k digital copy. We were not expecting much from this movies, never saw the Anime it is based on and harsh reviews kept us from going out to see it. However while some of it standard fair for dystopian future movies the story was actually pretty good.Strong performances by the main cast. If you like this kind of sci-fi give Ghost in the Shell a chance.

Really liked the film! I mean, you can't really compare it to the anime... its like comparing apples vs oranges. What you have here is an americanized story in a really wonderfully realized universe. This was my first 4k blu ray, and I must say, I didn't even watch it on bluray! I opened the package, went to vudu.com, typed in the ultraviolet number that came inside, and streamed the film to my 4k tv. It looked amazing.

Great steelbook, but boring movie that clearly had a bad director who didn't understand what made the original great.

I have read the manga and seen many of the Ghost in the Shell Anime. While this was much like the OVA of Ghost in the Shell, for some reason some of the characters seemed lifeless compared to their Manga or Anime versions. I enjoyed the movie and SJ was great as usual, but for some reason I was not as thrilled with this live action version of the story. A good movie if you get a good deal on it though.

I liked the movie, though it could have been a little better, but my main problem is with Digital Copy. This "add-on" or whatever you want to call it is now useless. It used to allow download of the movie to a local device for later viewing, but no longer allows this. If you have a slower connection, like I do with DSL, streaming in HD is not realistic unless you can download and watch later. Zero stars for Digital Copy.

I had low expectations for this film given the negative press and reviews, but was pleasantly surprised - this might be because I have not seen the previous anime or read the manga, so I had nothing to compare it to. Overall, it was entertaining with good special effects and decent acting - the plot just felt a little stale (probably because the source material has been ripped off by a million other sci-fi films).

I hadn't heard about this movie at all until seeing it advertised at Best Buy and Amazon. Since I like sci fi, I bought it, and in 3D. I was pleasantly surprised at how compelling and thought provoking it was. It offered a unique vision of a future in which man and machine merge and the consequences that could result from it. The storyline, characters and special effects were all quite good, I thought.

Hi, Before I am hunted down and put to the sword for saying so, I thought this representation of "Ghost in the Shell" was a lot better than many critics and fans gave it credit for. Sure, it was not a faithful word-for-word and scene-for-scene adaptation of other media. I honestly think it was a good try that could not help but fall short of fan expectations. But for me, it was an enjoyable attempt. If there is some production company willing to take another crack at it, I'd gladly watch that too. Mind you, I have not heard of or read about anyone else willing to try.

A respectful adaptation: The movie is visually stunning, characters are who and what they are suppose to be and the story is simplified compared to the original anime which is a bad thing. I really enjoyed the film. Watched it a few times already and am glad I purchased it. If you like it and would like to dig deeper check out the anime. Easily top 10 anime of all time. Oh and the steelbook is awesome.

The UHD, featuring HDR-enhanced colors, fares great. It's another picture that boosts over the Blu-ray offering a convincing reason to upgrade namely shaper details and firmer colors. Surfaces appear a more refined and carefully tuned here, with pores and clothes revealing sharper, more intricate detailing. The HDR color palette adds more depth and nuance to the film's inherently limited color scheme,

Being a huge fan of the anime, I was looking forward to this movie. It looks great in 4K HDR but the story is only ok. It pays homage to the original but never quite gets into top gear. Scarjo did an ok job but I think a different actress woukd have been better. The FX are well done and the music is good but not as haunting as the anime. Recommended but don't expect a repeat of the anime gold medal.

This took a lot of influence from Blade Runner, and has enough originality to be its own film without relying on its predecessor. Also, for those complaining about "whitewashing," the character is a cyborg and in the original manga, she was a Russian (pale white also in the original anime). The character was never Japanese, so Scarlett was actually a great casting choice here.

As someone who has watched Stand Alone Complex and all the anime movies of Ghost In the Shell, I went into this movie expecting a lot. While we didn't get as much character development on the side characters as the show gives us, the action and awesome effects made up for it. I like that they added their own plot twist to give us something new to watch. I hope they plan on a sequel.

The plot of the original Anime was basically reworked extensively for Casual audiences I suppose, but a few scenes from the original were nicely adapted into the movie. On its own, the movie was not that bad IMHO. If you are a huge fan of the source material and expect a direct live action remake, you'll have to keep waiting... but watch it with a clear head and give it a chance.

This is a remake/adaptation of a 1995 Anima series "Ghost In The Shell" into a live action movie full of special affects. This movie tells creation story of how Motoko Kusanagi becomes cyborg federal agent Major Motoko Kusanagi (Major) and how she uses her special abilities as part of a crack fighting team (Section 9) to combat evil (in many forms) in the mid 21st century.

Not many fans of the original anime film were too pleased with this adaptation. I didn't have too many issues here as it was exactly as I expected - a straightforward remake, streamlined and simplified for the big screen. The visuals of this film were definitely the saving grace, and the red toned steelbook packaging for this home release makes it worth adding to my collection.

I've never seen the anime. So if that invalidates everything else I say now, so be it. Haha, but for what it was Ghost in the Shell is a good standalone film to where not seeing the anime, I don't feel as if it was hindered by it, I kept up with the story pretty well. It was the classic big evil corp did something to me, and I need to make them pay. I just wish there was so more action sequences with Major in the movie, felt like it was ScarJo just walking weirdly a lot. Still decent IMO, plus the Steelbook I like quite a bit.

Like with many live action remakes, anime fans go into watching them with a sense of dread. This one was no different, but I'm happy to report that Ghost in the Shell is a terrific reimagining of the source material. While it's not perfect, it's one of the best live action remakes I've ever seen, perhaps the best. Glad I got the steel book version, it's very cool.

I recently purchased a New Samsung Q90T 65" (2020) Q-LED TV and matching Q950T Samsung Soundbar and 4K UHD Blu-ray Player and wanted to purchase a few really good 4K UHD Movies to show off the picture and ATMOS surround audio. This DVD does not disappoint. Great movie with plenty of action scenes with very good Surround sound. And I got it on sale! Better than going to the Movies, especially now since COVID-19.
