It's a well-done 4K disc...I wouldn't say that it's reference IMHO, but it is pretty darn good...I'm just not a big fan of 'films' being shot with Video cameras...Fortunately the HDR makes (mostly) up for that, giving it the filmic-look it really deserves...But it 'Ain't no Blade Runner!!! :-)

They had seen the original anime, and didn't like that digressions from the actual original story. I, however, never having seen the anime, thought it was pretty goo, although I think probably a lot of guys watched it because they could pretend they were seeing Scarlet Johansson naked.

I've read a lot of bad reviews on this movie but perhaps many compared it to the animated version and I know many complained about the choice of the lead role. I held back on watching the animated one until after watching the live action and I loved both versions. The hidden messages and secrets behind the entire story is just amazing! I'd recommend it to friends but seems like everyone jumped into the bandwagon.

The movie lifts entire scenes from its source material, but that's ok. It's fun, if not as deep as it might like to think it is, and has some nice background touches. The product itself doesn't have much for extras, with generic menus, as is typical of recent releases.

I really liked this movie and felt that it is a good tribute to the original movies and to the series, but I can see why not everyone liked it as much as me. The first 35 minutes feel kind of stiff and forced, but after that I feel the movie really picks up and is very entertaining! The audio and video quality of the bluray are both amazing, so definitely makes this demo worthy if you have a nice theater setup!

This movie is a great transfer of the anime Ghost in the shell to a live action. They took great detail to make sure the fan base would be happy. So if you have seen the original you will be able to see how scenes were taken from 2d and turned into real life. The story is only a bit different which was to be expected. Even if you have not seen the original you will enjoy this cyber punk / Matix style movie.

Bought my 1st 4k blu-ray and the clarity and color dynamic is incredible. It helps the special effects were already amazing aside from the disappointing dialogue compared to the anime, but i was impressed. Hard to compare against the regular blu-ray but I'm sure there is some comparison.

Impressive live take on a classic. It does not quite replicate the level of its original, which carries more character development that delves into some really thought provoking ideas. Overall solid release backed with a nice steelbook that may be more for fans that the casual viewer.

To turn the Anime classic to live action is always a difficult task, coupled with trying to present it to an American audience. Some scenes were almost shot for shot, but the story is what was different in terms of Section 6 vs 9, Puppet Master, history and motivation of the Major.

Challenges: In order to get an entire series into a single, watchable length movie, many many plot lines were removed. It's understandable, but much of the mystery - and subsequent delight in the unraveling of the clues - is absent from the movie. The acting, particularly Johansson's, is indicative of the quiet reflective tone that is prevalent in the anime series, but again, lack of time in a Hollywood length movie removes the contemplative and introspective nature that I enjoyed in the anime. Successes: The translation of comic book action, particularly the invisibility effects and the spider tanks, to a motion picture are outstandingly done. The cloaking devices look like they were ripped out of the anime and dropped convincingly into live action like an A-ha video.

I am an action person. This movie has plenty of action and is something that I would watch again and again. It is not boring like some movies are. I did not think that I would like it but my son said it has action and he know that I like action movies. I watched it and I enjoyed it!

I knew NOTHING about the history of any books, anime, etc. going into this movie. This is the only Ghost in the Shell that I have ever experienced. That being said, I had nothing to compare it to except the Blu-Ray I have already watched twice. The effects are amazing, the story is amazing, and Scarlett Johansson is amazing. This was a great watch for me. Check it out for yourself.

This movie received a lot of criticism before it's release, but I really liked it. The visuals are amazing and the story is very respectful of the original anime movie. Probably would've been better with an asian actress in the lead, but the rest of the cast is pretty accurate.

I expected a flaming pile of garbage based on 99% of the reviews of this movie, but I was surprised that it wasn't as bad as they say. It was not the amazing piece of cinema that the anime is but some of it was faithfully recreated and the city and art direction are beautiful. I want to live in this sci-fi city. Don't get your hopes up and just watch it for the eye candy and you might even like it.

But honestly, all these SciFi and fantasy movies really are beautiful to look at these days. I came into this blind, having never read the original comics. I was totally sucked into the story, and actually cared about the main characters. A well crafted tale, and nicely crafted movie. Awesome visuals and fully immersive soundscapes. I've already watched this one several times.

I have seen the Manga for this at least a dozen times. Both dubbed and subtitled. This version of the story has elements of the TV series and is very cleaned up and not so muddled as Manga often gets. "Major" eye candy and general cyber punk fun. What's not to like! Plus Scarlet!

Scarlett Johansson does a terrific job playing the female protagonists, Major. I enjoyed the movie never having watched the original anime version. The movie does a fantastic job bringing the futuristic world to life. I think it’s an entertaining sci-fi film well worth owning.

It breaks my heart to know such a great movie did not do as well as it should. This movie adapts the Anime/Manga beautifully. Scarlet Johansen did an outstanding job of portraying the Major. They paid homage to the original while making it palpable for an international audience. Too bad the media ruin this movie for everyone. Listen to my advice... go out and get this movie. You won't regret it.

Scarlett Johansson as warrior and heroine is formidable and exciting, impressive in this film. Quite an interesting plot and fabulous CGI. Had no problem with the anime roots and feel this film doesn't get the credit it deserves. If you like sci-fi, you should enjoy this!

The previews of this movie are what caught my interest. This was a good SF movie, not great, but good enough to watch again down the road. I can see where some would love this movie and some would not. I think it was a love or hate type movie, and I'm leaning towards like -
