Well shot, great adaptation of Ghost in the Shell!

It was a good movie of adventure and has a good tone.

I really like the original Anime Ghost in the Shell, so I was pleased to see Hollywood taking a stab at it with great production value, good actors and money behind the live action movie. Most people who love the anime will most likely have an issue with the movie, but those that come in with an open mind and understand that this is an adaptation will have a good time. The movie looks gorgeous, it is fun to watch and also touch on some of the more pronounced and revered introspective and philosophical topics from the main story. The discussions between human, and machine, humanity, conscience, and existentialism are all there for those looking for it. I for one was more concerned about the visuals, and I prefer these movies for the spectacle.

I will only be reviewing the SteelBook itself and not the movie or disc contents as these are the same in the standard Blu-ray release and other sites have far better reviews than I can give. The SteelBook cover art is pretty nice as it kind of gives off a manga/anime vibe as an homage to the Ghost in the Shell source material. There is an image of the Major on the inside of the front cover but no additional art on the inside of the back cover. On release week, this was $2 more than the standard Blu-ray. This is the cost for this special SteelBook case since the contents are the same. Because of the lack of inside art on both covers and the presence of scratches/dents on all of the copies I found at the store coupled with the increased cost, I could not give this 5 stars.

Big fan of SJ, underrated movie. very good visuals.

There were lots of criticisms when casting was announced for this movie but Scarlett Johansson does a solid job in the roll. Would an Asian actress been nice, definitely, but unfortunately it wasn't going to happen. Story is a mélange of previous stories from the Movies, Anime and Manga, nothing really new but still good to see. Visual design is a delight and the look is respectful to the franchise. The HRD elements have a lot of impact when used, you almost feel the moment when the Major gets shocked in the hideout! Overall fans might be disappointed due to the over simplification of the themes but I feel the movie turned out as well as it could in the Hollywood Machine. There was no way this movie would get the budget it needed as an Independent movie!

I absolutely loved this movie! it was so refreshing to watch after 99% of movies churned out these days is pure junk! This movie is visually stunning and the plot manages to be subtlety thought-provoking and gripping, yet skillfully weaving in fast paced action. The performances are wonderful and the casting was spot on. Easily going to be one of my favorite movies. Side note- these days people seem to think the only way to review anything is by tearing it down and there really isn't any objectivity. Unfortunately, it will turn away a lot of people from watching a great movie and has killed any chance at a sequel. It will be years before people can admit that they enjoyed this movie or someone watches at home and realizes what they missed. Great Job

This storyline could have been better. I'm a science fiction lover, and got this movie on a Black Friday sale. It was worth adding to my collection for the price for sure. Who knows, maybe this one is better the more you watch it. Fingers crossed....
