A great film made better buy the excellent 4K transfer. Sound is also very, very, very, very good. :-) I took a chance that this film would be better in 4K (I have the Blu Ray) and it is. An example of an older film being transferred to 4K and NOT being better is the wonderful movie, "Groundhog Day". This version of "Gladiator" is worth watching over and over. So then, highly recommended? Yup! Trust me. I know what I'm doin' when I'm reviewin'.

    4K Improved My Experience

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. I have watched my Blu-Ray countless times and thought I'd treat myself to the 4K version. There was more pop to the colors and more detail to many scenes. This 4K transfer was beautifully made. I watched the extended length option and the extra 15 minutes added clarity and depth to the overall script. Anyway, I thought this was extremely well done and I do recommend. BTW I own a Sony 55" XBR and an OPPO Digital 4K player and a 5.1 Klipsch/Denon sound system.

the cinematography is magnificent, the storylines and actors suberb. not sure how they get the tigers and gladiators to choreograph so well. If you have a big screen projector this is a demo to show off to your friends. Fantastic from start to finish. Good guys are good, bad guys are better... Not sure if actually filmed at the real Coliseum in Rome, but looks authentic. Go on the tour and it seems so real. Best Russell Crow film ever...

Alongside the recent Braveheart release comes this Gladiator 20th anniversary 4K SteelBook release. The movie has been well-reviewed at this point so I will briefly speak to the presentation itself and it is fantastic! The interior is particular interesting with a shot of the Tigris of Gaul sequence and it captures one of the best moments in the film. I am pleasantly surprised the US received such an excellent SteelBook. Keep them coming!

This is in my top ten movies of all time - historically #2. The blu-ray release has been one of might, and a go-to for giving your system a workout. Now the new 4k release takes it a step further from what I'm able to see (disclaimer, I've been able to view the 4k disc through my Xbox Series X but through a 1080p projector). But now having a more enveloping sound mix, this is indeed an edition to own.

I watched this with a lot of expectations it being my first 4k video. I put it into my XBOX ONE X and voila! It worked like a charm, no jittering or playback issues. The content was flawless. The story line from 2000 feels like it was shot today in 2018. Honestly, there is so much to love about the kinetics, acting and story line in this. If you enjoy period pieces and the lead actors, the price is a bargain, I got it on sale so it was immensely worthwhile to me as an actor and viewer.

Hard to believe this movie is > 20 years old. I watched it then on DVD. The transfer to 4K UHD is beautiful; the colors pop and the sound is stunning. The disc has the theatrical version and the extended version. I chose to watch the latter; I don't know the difference between the 2 versions. I truly enjoyed watching the movie again on my Sony OLED TV, the story about greed is still compelling

I'd seen this movie on dvd when it came out a while ago but to see it in 4k blu ray was just stunning. The story was great but the cinematography just brought out so much more that you start to think like a character and what it must have been like to see the Coliseum in that period but entertainment was to watch death. To think someone had built that back then and we now have current versions to watch sporting events based on ancient architecture. Truly amazing. I was entertained.

‘Gladiator’ Still Shines 15 Years Later!

15 years ago, director Ridley Scott reminded us about why we liked epic swords and sandals films. Russell Crowe stars as a fictional gladiator that wants revenge for being betrayed by the Emperor of Rome. The movie is filled with solid action and some of the best battle scenes that I’ve ever seen committed to film. It is still an epic yarn and shouldn’t be missed by any fans of the genre.

The movie came out in 2000 and it is still just as good today, 20 years later! Every time a new format comes out, I buy this movie: DVD, Blu-ray, and now UHD. The picture is truly amazing, the use of HDR is spectacular and the audio is even better than before with Dolby Atmos. Even if you don't have 4k, the blu-ray looks spectacular and better than previous releases. Highly recommended for fans and others.

As for the movie itself, if you have not seen it yet, it is outstanding. The audio is great, and the video along with dolby vision enabled looks the best of any version I have seen. I think it is worth an upgrade if you own the dvd or blu-ray, and definitely worth the purchase if you have not seen the movie.

picture and sound of the 4K disc are phenomenal - light grain structure, incredible definition. bombastic but clearly placed sound that replicates what I heard in theaters all those years ago. Steelbook is solid with a nice glossy finish, but it's too bad it doesn't have anything more special like embossing, etc.

Inspiring prep for our trip to Rome

We watched Gladiator the week before heading to Rome on vacation, and it was altogether inspiring. Seeing the Coliseum was stunning after seeing the movie. While there were a few historical inaccuracies in the film, like the fact that the chariot races actually took place in the nearby Circus Maximus, not the Coliseum itself, is certainly forgivable given the otherwise fine job done portraying the plight of the gladiators and the Roman society of the day. Russel Crowe at his finest. An excellent movie.
