Alright so a few people here and there are complaining about Gladiator's new release to the blu-ray format. I just watched it for a first time and honestly i didn't think that it was that bad. People are claiming that arrows and spears disappear but you can't notice it at all while the film is playing. This certainly isn't as good of a picture as Braveheart, which I also got today, but IT IS MUCH BETTER THAN THE DVD FORMAT. Any true fan of this motion picture will invest in this purchase. Plus you get $10 dollars off if you have the DVD through a mail-in rebate with Paramount. If you buy Braveheart and Gladiator together you get them for $17.99 a piece. Factor in the $10 rebates for both titles and you're only paying 8 bucks for a blu-ray title. Not bad at all!

Gladiator is probably Ridley Scotts best movie ever and Russel Crow's best outing as well.

Excellent addition to my collection. Excellent in blu-ray as addition to the original.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Definitly a must have movie. It doenst have the best blu ray quality that i would have liked but it is still better than DVD. it has both the extended edition and theatrical.

Classic for library. Enjoy buying DVDs of movies I like.

Overall this movie looked amazing on blueray. Why would any one else see it differntly. Great movie.

Gladiator Is A Very Good Very Action Pack Movie!!!

THE PROS: ** Good price with $5 bucks off and a $10 dollar DVD version trade in. ** Includes Extended Version of the film. Adds depth to the story. (Reveals moret of the dynamic incestrial relationship between Commodus wanting Lucillia. Also shows more of the roman political struggles and conspiracies, better overall story pacing and flow when added). ** Good selection of features, like commentary, trivia, trailers, TV shows on the roman games, galleries, documentaries, story boards, deleted scenes, etc. - THE CONS: ** Load times are a little slower compared to other movie blu-ray disc. ** Awful video quality for a blu-ray. Terrible video transfer, due to the digital noise reduction (DNR). Alot of fuzz image and washout in certain scenes. ** Audio has DTS sound, but i found it to be inconsistent. In acts were there is a conversation going, at times it would be soft and the next minute, it would sound much louder. ** The beginning where it shows other Movie Previews and the minute advertisement of the Sapphires series, the picture was extremely pixilated. Although not a main feature, there is no excuse for this bad encoding. = ** BOTTOM LINE = Despite the low price, I do not recommend this item if you already have the regular DVD version. I wish i could get a refund.

'Gladiator' would rank as one of the most disappointing movies I've ever seen, not because it was an awful picture, but because I just expected so much more. Directed by Ridley Scott, the film is much too inconsistent, runs longer than it needs to, and disappoints in the battle sequences. However, fans will probably like this loaded extended edition featuring extra footage not seen in the theatrical version.

Please don't give the movie studios any money for this "premium" movie! I love the movie. Top 5 in my list. What they did to this Blu-ray is unforgivable. They used computer programs to erase scratches. Good right? Fine if you like no arrows in the air during the opening scene, foreheads the look very smooth, spears that disapear,... and any thing else a PC might think is a scratch. So, how much money did they save not hiring someone to watch the digital transfer? If you don't believe me them please look at any audio video site on the web about this movie Yes, I did see it. With a newspaper reviewer who also said this maybe the poorest Blu-ray he has seen. So sad..

If you think my review is incorrect, please google gladiator and bluray, and you'll most likely end up @ avsforums.com, where they have screenshots showing how bad they messed up when converting this movie (Its so bad, theres a new version coming out in the fall of 2010). From the first battle at the beginning of the movie, arrows/fires disappear randomly, botched action shots, this wasn't something Dreamworks/Universal/whoever took as seriously as it should have. This movie was so disappointing, I waited years for the blu ray release, and then this piece of junk comes out, and I'm forced to buy another copy next fall, that I can only hope corrects the errors in this release.

Hey folks, honestly this Blu- Ray of Gladiator has been a let down. I have been converting all my library to Blu Ray, but this is the first one I will have to say that I will just keep my regular DVD. There are indeed little things missing from the picture like arrows and such. Some scenes look fuzzy where as the regular dvd does not. It looks like they used a cheap editor to "clean up" this movie on blu ray. The video will leave you disgusted that you bought this one. Sometimes I guess it is better to keep what you already have or if you don't have it, get the regular dvd. At least rent or borrrow this blu ray somewhere and see the poor video for yourself before buying this one.

I think the title says it all. The audio quality is good on this release, but anyone that says that the picture quality of this movie is acceptable needs to get their eyes checked. Put lossless audio on the dvd and you'd have a better edition of the film than what this blu ray offers. Unbelievably dissapointed.
