With the normal blu-ray disk you get a better picture than this 4k version.

For this reason the DVD gets a low rating. Great movie though.

Once in a while, a film comes along that combines all the qualities that make a blockbuster classic.. " GoodFellas " is definitely one of these films, with a cast to die for, a storyline that combines just about everything. Drama, Horror, Romance, Action & Crime all rolled up into some of the most beautiful cinematography Hollywood has to offer. Martin Scorsese's abilities shine in this masterpiece of film engineering and this Blu-ray only highlights the sheer genius of this fine director. synopsis - Martin Scorsese explores the life of organized crime with his gritty, kinetic adaptation of Nicolas Pileggi’s best-selling Wiseguy, the true-life account of mobster and FBI informant Henry Hill. Set to a true-to-period rock soundtrack, the story details the rise and fall of Hill, a half-Irish, half-Sicilian New York kid who grows up idolizing the “wise guys” in his impoverished Brooklyn neighborhood. He begins hanging around the mobsters, running errands and doing odd jobs until he gains the notice of local chieftain Paulie Cicero (Paul Sorvino), who takes him in as a surrogate son. As he reaches his teens, Hill (Ray Liotta) is inducted into the world of petty crime, where he distinguishes himself as a “stand-up guy” by choosing jail time over ratting on his accomplices. From that moment on, he is a part of the family. Along with his psychotic partner Tommy (Joe Pesci), he rises through the ranks to become Paulie’s lieutenant; however, he quickly learns that, like his mentor Jimmy (Robert DeNiro), his ethnicity prevents him from ever becoming a “made guy,” an actual member of the crime family. Soon he finds himself the target of both the feds and the mobsters, who feel that he has become a threat to their security with his reckless dealings. Video - Superb 1.85:1 aspect ratio 1080p/VC-1 encode on a BD-50 dual-layer disc. Colors are gorgeous, with lifelike clarity that looks amazingly true! This PQ is about as good as it gets and all will be pleased with this excellent picture. Audio - When GoodFellas was released on HD-DVD its audio was encoded using the Dolby Digital-Plus Lossy encode. Now on Blu-ray, we get a Digital Dolby 5.1 encode that is very good, but a DTS-HD Master audio track, would have been more proper. GoodFellas sound is encoded at 640kpbs bitrate with dialog sounding adequate, with the fronts & center being heavily used, since this is mainly a dialog driven soundtrack. Extras - 2 commentaries by Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco, Paul Sorvino and Frank Vincent, screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi, producers Irwin Winkler and Barbara De Fina, cinematographer Michael Ballhaus and editor Thelma Schoonmaker. - second commentary, dubbed "The Crook and The Cop." GoodFellas is a masterpiece of Movie Making and hands down one of the all time best Mob films ever put to celluloid.. This is not just my favorite gangster movie of all time. This is my favorite movie of all time. Period. Goodfellas is art. Everything from the music, the acting, how the story is told, is simply excellent. This has been my favorite movie since I first saw it in 1994 when I was old enough to watch rated R movies. I havent since seen a movie that is better directed or as well put together. If you havent seen this movie, then you have to to appreciate what great cinema is all about. As a matter of fact, I think ill go watch it right now.

this is a masterpiece by the legendary martin scorsese. this movie and the departed are his best movies without a doubt. goodfellas has a great cast and realistic mafia bosses and characters and joe pesci is one of the most vicious and evil people along side anthony hopkins as hannibal lector and javier bardem as anton chigurh from no country for old men. deniro is of course one of scorseses favorite actors-hes great in this. ray liotta does a really good job mainly because hes so unlikely to play this part. the story is all over the place dealing with drugs and killing people with an ending that will have you hating ray liotta. all the mafia stuff from the clothes to the accent is down perfectly because martin scorsese directed it. overall this is probably the best mafia movie along side godfather 1 and 2 and the departed.

THE best mob movie ! This is a slam, bam, stab 'em, shoot 'em, kick 'em, bury 'em mob movie with a fantastic story.. after all, it's based on a true story, those make the best movies. The acting line up is top notch and even though it's an older movie, every time I see Ray Liota or Pesci or deNeiro, I think of Goodfellas ! This movie will make a lasting impression on the viewer, and if you knew nothing about organized crime, you will after watching this.

This is a great movie about the mob from the inside.The story, cinematography, and actors really draw you in and you feel what is going on in front of you.When something bad happens you feel the setback and when something good happens you feel overjoyed. You will be able to watch this movie an infinite number of times without getting bored.

This is Scorsese's best film with memorable performances and classic scenes (and shots). The movie speaks for itself, and it has never looked better for home video than on this Blu-ray. The extras are a real treat for fans of the film, as you get insight not only from the filmmakers but also from Henry Hill himself and the FBI agent that apprehended him.

My wife and I love this movie! It's one of the best gangster movies ever made. It has an allstar cast including Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Ray Liotta. If you haven't seen this movie by now, you're the only one! Buy it! Also, some other great gangster movies are The Untouchables, Casino, Scarface, and of course, The Godfather series.

What an amazing film this is, the pace and flow is one of the many magical things that Scorsese uplifts here. The roll and twist of the camera, the music, the touch; anyone who loves a good mob movie will tell you, nothing beats GOODFELLAS.

If you like a good crime drama , this is the one. Shows how a small town kid works his way up in a mafia setting . It almost makes you feel like this story is true every bit of it . Love crime drama's and this is a must have for those people who like them.

How is it that one reviews the perfect mob film? The only thing I can do is praise it. This film is another masterpiece under the direction of Martin Scorsese. The characters, locations, and story is gripping and the performances are great.

‘Goodfellas’ is an excellent film that deals completely with the inner workings of an organized crime outfit. While it’s not the type of movie most will watch on a regular basis, it’s still well worth a viewing. For those who really enjoy this Scorsese piece, you may want ot opt for the 2-disc special edition which has much more to offer in terms of bonus material not available on this version.

This is the epitome of what a mob movie should be, action packed enough, but with the slight twinge of criminalistic humor, and high energy, it keeps you in your seats and glued to the screen. Highly recommended!

Anytime you have Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci in a movie, you can believe that it will be a great movie and this is no expectations. If you like mob movies than this is another one you need to get.

Goodfellas is my favorite mafia movie. I have done the research on the characters and the plot of this movie, and alot was changed in the movie, but still a great movie! Love the actors!
