Hardware is great software is junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great at streaming when it wants to work. Half the time stuff can't stream to it(not a network issue as the app can still see the screensaver and reboot the device). Its a huge pain to have to constantly reboot this hunk of junk to be able to stream to it. Its too bad if Google had made the software reliable this would have been a good device(surprisingly the worst thing to stream to this is an Android phone a chromebook works a tiny bit better). Contacting Google for support is not helpful as they do not help fix.

Upgrading from first generation Chromecast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently signed up for YouTube TV, which has some issues with bandwidth. I bought the Chromecast ultra because it was on sale and didn't want to have to upgrade again if I get some sort of 4k display. Unless you need the 4k capability (or expect to soon), there's no reason to spend extra on this version. You do get an ethernet port on the power adapter. If you need that, you know who you are.

Good and Bad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is great if you don't have a smart TV or want to watch your 4K movies on Google Play. I only purchased it to watch my recently bought Ghost in the Shell in 4K on Google Play. You can't watch your 4K movies on Google Play without Chromecast Ultra on your 4K smart/regular TV. I believe it's a great product, but I'll be returning it. Not worth it for only a single movie.

Does Not Work with Wall Mounted TVs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No more USB power option, the only power option is a built in power cord with a 3"x4" head that won't fit behind your TV if it's mounted flush with the wall. You could run the cord from the TV down your wall, but obviously that looks terrible. Went with a Roku 4K Stick that powers itself through the TVs USB port. Hard to believe Google messed this design feature up!

Returned. Netflix problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Netflix worked out the box, Hulu worked... YouTube worked... Everything worked... I'd try to cast Netflix again "sorry something went wrong. Try again later or cast something else" Hulu and everything else worked fine... Only way to get Netflix to work again was a factory reset. I updated firmware and everything on phones tablets chromecast..... everything up to date. I did recently upgraded my home wifi to an Orbi system..... Maybe that's the reason? I would have tried more to troubleshoot but.... Google's customer service was, let's just say.. not the best. Google said it was a Netflix problem and got Netflix on the line... Google left the call and left me with Netflix... Netflix immediately said "the error message says chromecast.com/help.... It's a Chromecast problem.". Google called me back an hour later, I told the rep what happened that it was a chromecast issue.... He said it's a Netflix issue, I said I was going to just return it... He suggested I talk to a supervisor.... He out a supervisor on the line that said it's a Netflix issue and he was sorry that I was returning it.... Why the hell did I need to wait to talk to a supervisor to hear him say sorry? Got a firestick 4k that was cheaper and it works great with all apps, I can even tell it to show my exterior security cameras... And has a remote. Haven't returned a piece of technology in yearsssss.... And have a smart home. Thanks Google.

Piece of.....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worse experience ever trying to get connected to my wireless network, after several attempts finally I got results, video streaming pretty good quality but with fast motion picture all the time, the box was over heated that you can cook and egg, besides you can't download what you want for stream, like Kodi, too way restricted, only what Google want, there're other better devices in the market, sorry Google, maybe I got a dysfunctional one, you get what you pay for. Returned.

Hard to use WHILE IT LASTS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this a little over a year ago. It randomly shut off and does not power on any more. Limited warranty for 12 months for a product that won't last 2 years. Now, while it was functioning, it's a horrible device. Unlike the AppleTV and the Amazon Firestick there is no remote for the device and unless you are connecting it with your devices, it cannot standalone. You're paying for the Google name, and that's about it. After trying the Firestick, I was kicking myself for not buying it to begin with. With the Chromecast, there are intermittent issues that making casual streaming a headache. I do not recommend it at all, and I would strongly suggest considering the other non-Google devices.

Keeps restarting in the middle of streaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent product, but it keeps restarting by itself sometimes when streaming Youtube or Netflix. Surely, there is a reliability issue.

Apps crash too much
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been extremely dissatisfied with my Chromecast Ultra. Apps that run fine on my 2nd gen Chromecast and even my 1st Gen are so unstable. My second gen Chromecast which is upstairs further away from the router performs so much better than the ultra that is hardwired into my 4k TV. In the half year that I've owned this device, I've had to reboot it more than I ever did any of the others. There is no justification for this device to cost twice as much as it's lower resolution counterparts. I bought this to watch PSVue on my 4k TV, and I probably reboot this thing at least once a day. I hope Google uses all the crash reports my device has sent them.

$70 Device Destroys $777 TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: - Supremely easy to use - Breathes new life in to old TV's Cons: - Get's stuck in infinite update loops and for some reason the two HDMI ports I have had it plugged into have "mysteriously" stopped working two weeks apart
