I've owned and used many smartphones over a decade now and like cars there is no single perfect choice for everyone's needs. That still holds true even today, but when choosing a smartphone one of the first decisions is to decide on whether to go with an iOS or an Android device. Choosing the latter greatly increases the number of actual devices to choose from, but no matter what you choose I've found that there are always compromises.
With that said, I've been using the Google Pixel with Verizon service for just over two weeks now. It has a very familiar appearance overall and a 5 inch screen. Unlike most Android devices with that screen size, it still has flagship specs. But most important of all, it is still as responsive today as it was on day one. That is something I have not been able to say about any other Android device I've had, flagship or otherwise. They all are responsive on day one, but even the best ones do not have the "appliance-like response" that the Google Pixel does. Similar to iOS devices, when you tap something, it responds no matter what, in my experience. This goes a long way towards avoiding getting annoyed by the device.
Feature-wise, it does not have any annoying omissions. Yes, it does not have wireless charging but in practice I've found it is a nice-to-have at best, with finicky and/or slow charging being a norm. It has an IP53 rating which helps with dust and water resistance; not as good as other devices but even those with better ratings are still not covered under warranty if damaged by water. It only has a single down-firing speaker but it is of good fidelity and overall volume. It has a very good camera and with unlimited cloud storage the lack of expandable storage is mitigated.
Most importantly however, for me it is the first Android-based phone that just works, any time and all the time.

I am really enjoying everything this phone has to offer so far! The Pixel is a well built device with a simple and sleek design. It feels sturdy and solid in my hand. The screen is bright and gorgeous. Call quality is fantastic and the speakers are more than loud enough and sound really good for a phone. Tapping, swiping, and typing are all incredibly responsive with zero lag. One of my favorite features so far is the finger print id on the back of the phone. Using my index finger to unlock the phone on the back feels natural and feels like an upgrade from front touch unlocks.
Setup was a breeze. Google has made switching phones easy with the included adapter cable that will transfer all of your important data quickly with no hitches. The phone is quick, apps open and run with zero lag or glitches. I love the Andriod OS, and this is from someone switching from that other OS. I like the email system better, the message system better, the notifications better, and the sheer amout of customization is staggering coming from and OS where customization now seems like it was taboo. And the fact that this phone was made from the floor up by Google just makes things so much easier.
The only negatives I have been able to find is that it gets hot when running hard (not dangerously hot) and the phone is really slick so without a case it always feels like it's going to slip out of my hand.
I would absolutely recommend this phone to anyone. I really think Google has built a phone to contend with the best phones on the market.

The Google Pixel overall is a good phone. It presents a good user experience with its sleek design, excellent camera and Google features that give it a leg up on other Android devices.
Physically, the Pixel does look similar to most smart phones with the exception of no physical home button, and the finger print scanner on the rear; both of which take some getting used to. However, the rear scanner is somewhat intuitive (depending on how you handle your phone).
The camera on the Pixel is GREAT. Image quality is crystal clear, even in low-light situations.
Justification for the 4 star rating is primarily due to the software features, or lack there of. Other manufactures do provide certain add-ons, whether in the form of pre-installed apps, user friendly widgets, etc. The pixel primarily includes the Google suite that most people install from the Play Store anyways. There are no new apps that really stand out or make it a genuine user experience.
Overall, good product but hoping for more with updates.

I have used iPhones for years because of how disappointing I have found android phones. When I saw the Google Pixel, though, I was interested enough to at least give it a chance. And I am really glad I did. It works well with most of the apps in the Play Store, the available widgets are great, call quality is very good as well as text messaging being fast and easy. One of the first things that I noticed was how much it looks like the iPhone 7. To me this isn't a bad thing but I can see other people having a problem with that. The best part of the design, though, (that is not the same as an iPhone) is the fingerprint reader at the upper back of the phone. It is out of the way but convenient. I am also very fond of how easy it is to get to Google News (from the main screen you just swipe right and it has news stories that are of interest to me, weather, etc). The camera is supposed to be pretty good but I cannot say if it is or not because I don't take many pictures. It was especially easy to transfer my contacts, music, etc. One thing I have not tested and will not test is how strong the screen is. However, I would suggest buying a screen protector because I have heard that the screen is especially fragile. Additionally, the phone is not waterproof. I think part of the reason I like this phone so much is because it takes aspects of Android phones that I like and portions of iPhones that I like. It makes for a good mix of features but I can see some people not liking the mix if they do not enjoy the iPhone at all. Additionally, most of the apps seem much more stable than they have been on any other Android phone I have used. The one thing that annoys me is that when I want to watch something on YouTube I have to use the native app as all of the other YouTube player apps do not have all the abilities that the native YouTube app has. That is not a problem I have noticed on the App Store when looking at iPhone YouTube player apps. I expect that if there are future Pixel phones Google will make changes to the design and make the phone waterproof, which are definitely necessary changes. But as this is Google's first time making a phone that is Google only software and hardware, this isn't a bad first try to any extent. It has some issues (design, not being waterproof) that would be major problems on a phone that had several generations but for a first generation it is not a major problem but a little annoying. Still I give it 5/5 stars because I like it a lot and considering how much I dislike Android phones normally that is quite the accomplishment.

A synopsis of onboarding from an iPhone
|

There are many great, detailed reviews here, so I'm going to take a bit of a different approach and review the process of onboarding the Pixel from an iPhone.
The Pixel had about 45% charge out of the box. Once you turn it on, you're given the option to copy/transfer your data from another phone, including an iPhone. I decided to go that route and so followed the onscreen instructions to connect the included adapter to the Pixel and then a Lightning/USB cable from the adapter to my iPhone. The first thing that happened was that I got an alert on the Pixel that my iPhone has encryption turned on and so if I wanted to copy everything that is possible to copy, I would need to connect my iPhone to my computer, turn off encrypted backups and then reconnect to the Pixel and try again. That was a bit disappointing. It would have been better to have a note in the box or on the first screen that mentions this in advance.
Back to the Pixel being connected to the iPhone, the next thing I just happened to notice is that the Pixel was actually charging the iPhone. That would have been kind of cool and interesting except for the fact that the Pixel only had about 45% charge and now it's going to be losing charge even faster (b/c it's charging the iPhone) all during the time that it needs to get data off the iPhone and onto the Pixel. So, there's the potential that at some point during the transfer process, your Pixel battery could die. I'm not sure what would happen then (have to restart the transfer? have to erase/restore the Pixel and then restart?) b/c I, luckily, made it through the transfer process with maybe 3% battery left in the Pixel once everything was said and done. So, it may be a good idea to charge the Pixel up right out of the box before evening powering it on and beginning the onboarding process.
Also during the onboarding, once the Pixel "read" all my data from the iPhone, it figured out that I wouldn't be able to copy over everything b/c my iPhone has 128GB and the Pixel only 32GB. So, I had to kind of pick and choose what I wanted to copy. The main thing that I had to exclude was photos/videos. Then, the transfer would work fine. So, another thing to keep in mind if going from a large capacity phone to a smaller capacity Pixel.
Once the onboarding was done and I was presented with my Pixel ready to use (took probably about 45 minutes to an hour), I realized how limited the copying process is. I don't have a Gmail account (I have an email account from an IMAP provider) but I assumed that the account settings would copy over (similar to the way you can restore a brand new iPhone from an encrypted backup of your previous iPhone and have all your settings, accounts, passwords, etc. copied over). But, those settings didn't copy over. What did copy over was my contacts (stored in iCloud), all my SMS/iMessages and maybe a few other minor things. Surprisingly, the email account didn't copy over and my calendar didn't copy over.
Lastly, no Android-equivalent apps were copied over or installed automatically. I realized beforehand that this most likely wouldn't happen, but if there was a way for Google to at least preload all the free apps that I had on my iPhone onto the Pixel during the transfer process, that would have been pretty amazing. Paid apps - of course not. But, free apps - why not?
So, in summary, I think the onboarding process Google created is a great first step in making the transition from iPhone to Pixel (or other Android phone to Pixel) less painful, but it still has a long way to go.

Just the feel of the phone tells a story, the Pixel is lighter than other phones on the market at this level. Some may say this is a mid-tier phone but it's a nice refresh from Google than their Nexus line. The best feature of this phone that sets itself apart from the rest is the fact that this phone camera is amazing! Not only that but you get unlimited 4K full resolution uploads to your Google Photo account. All my videos, and pictures will be at full resolution without using my 15GB of space. Never again will I see that message that I am close to my built in storage limit.

Apprehensive at first first about buying a first gen phone but took a chance on Google Pixel...and I LOVE IT! Fast! Efficient! Beautiful!
•Bye-bye bloatware!!! (Yes, touchwiz, I'm talking to you. And Verizon, and...)
•Google assistant? Yes!!! (unexpected enthusiasm)
•Battery? Yes!!
•Fast charging! Yes!
•Constant reminder of harmful volume level? NO!!! :)
•Phone clarity? Yes!!!
•Finger print reader? Heck yeah!!!
• Camera? OMG.
•Unlimited cloud storage? Duh!!
Of course there are a few things I don't like...
·32 or 128.
·Slippery; wet or not. (Can't wait til my case arrives!)
·No card slot. (But with unlimited cloud storage it might be a non-issue:
·No motion stabilizer. (But rapid frame might take care of that).
So glad I took a chance...and Bestbuy had the best deal going.

First impressions

My first impressions of the pixel is the build of the phone. It feels nice in the hand, has a standard look to it. The size of the phone wouldn't be my first choice I rather use a phone with a bigger screen, but this one is great for people who like to use a smaller phone, thin, lightweight. Had to get used to the power and volume buttons on the same side, I did fumble around trying to adjust the volume a couple of times. The fingerprint sensor being on the back didn't bother me as much since it reacts really quick. I wasn't that impressed with the camera. I got ok pictures, the camera does give some neat options blur mode allowing to focus on a center point and blur out the rest which I thought was neat would come in handy taking pictures when someone can walk through your shot. Otherwise it was ok for a phone camera. The software is good pure android always a plus. The app tray easily pull up from the screen I like that versus having to touch the app icon. The keyboard was responsive. What I liked the most about the phone is the fingerprint sensor how quickly it reacts. I have been only using this phone for a day and half so more time with the phone I will learn more. And might change some of my first impressions. But for now it's an ok phone. Size is good for most, software is great just need to learn the 7.1 android, the power button and volume buttons should be on separate sides. Without a physical button on the front the screen could have been bigger. The sound quality was ok. The storage I feel standard size should be 64GB, no more 32GB phones. I know there is cloud storage but I still feel physical storage should always start at 64GB.

The pixel is lightning fast, easy to customize, excellent cameras, and truly defines smart. To me having an unlocked device that will work most places in the world is worth the price of admission. Project Fi is very exciting. I popped my T-Mobile nano sim in and up and running in 30 seconds. Wifi calling supported which is a great feature for an unlocked phone. Not waterproof as others have stated. Fast updates, pure Google operating system and battery optimization. Great device that 99.9 percent of population would enjoy owning in my opinion. Ultimate in flexibility internationally and use any carrier you can find in United States. This is the most state of the art phone that exists today in regards to virtually all LTE bands on all networks with VoIP capabilities worldwide where you can be reached via one number. Obviously Google maps and GPS locating are as accurate as it gets. Highly recommended.

There is a lot of steep competition in this space. Google has definitely stepped up their game. The screen is gorgeous! The camera chatter is real. In these two categories Pixel bests even the iPhone 7. The phone seems well built and can be considered a new entry into the premium category. It's casing could use a little refinement but for its starting price point it's a fantastic start.

There are phones on the market for the same price or less with more features on their hardware.
For $650, this phone should have wireless charging and a hardware camera button. Things lines like Lumia have had for years. Instead, do yourself a favor and get a wireless charging case or receiver and love your life a bit more.
In other regard, the new Google Personal Assistant has proven to be a bit underwhelming - it can't read your text messages, for one. In addition, despite training it, my friends can say "OK Google" and it picks right up without hesitation. This is extremely annoying.
There are app compatibility issues with some of my essential apps like Waze; the maps never load.
USB-C charging is nice for its speed, but now you have to get all new cables, or adapters for the ones you already own.
The phone feels solid and has a great screen. I love, too, that they brought back the hardware indicator for notifications, though I haven't quite figured out why the light blinks green, blue, or white.
I have also noticed that, while my wife's iPhone has 2-3 bars at home, this phone rarely picks up LTE and often I see it drop down to 1x (not even 3G!). This suggests there are clear issues w/ antenna placement.
This is my first Android phone so I can't comment on how Nougat compares to earlier versions but I will happily answer any questions.

Good Smartphone

As I already had a smartphone and have stuck with the the brand since it's beginning, I knew that it would be hard for me to stay unbiased for the review. I can honestly say that, besides a few preferences, it was a very easy transition.
If you are familiar with Droids, you will have no problems working with this phone. As expected, every Google app is loaded on it. It has an assistant to help you find things within the phone and in the real world. Takes excellent pictures. I like that I can unlock the phone using a fingerprint sensor on the back and I feel like the call quality of this phone is somewhat better than my previous phone.
Now for the things that I do not like. It is smaller than what I am used to. I have bigger hands so I like bigger phones. I know that's my problem, but it's also my review. It also has a charger that is unlike any of my other devices which irritates me to no end. However, with the phone came a wall plug in brick, a USB to phone cord and a cord with the phone plug in on both sides.
Overall, this is a great phone. It has everything that I like in a cellphone and was very easy to setup and update. I would speak highly of this phone if asked about it and if asked to recommend phones, it would be included in my list. As for me, I will use my previous cellphone until ithe dies before I fully switch to this, and after my 2 year contract is over, if some things are changed on Pixel, I will have are very hard decision on which phone I am going this one get.

Subjectively Pixel is the best android phone ever made, and the only one I would recommend and sure an Iphone owner wouldn't regret switching too. The ergonomics is great, performance is excellent, camera is excellent, speaker placement and quality is not good. Back glass make it feel fragile and for someone who doesn't like putting on cases on my phones adds anxiety to my life. Even though the glass back make touching the phone more enjoyable and gives better grip.

If you are a Verizon customer, this device is perfect for you. This phone is solid and feels solid with the aluminum and glass body. It is extremely responsive and not as bloated as Samsung phone I had previously. I am glad I got this phone at Best Buy and gave it a chance. You won't be missing anything other than getting a solid and beautiful product from Google this time. I'm glad they have started to build their own device integrated to their eco-system. Also, side note. I am also deeply integrated with many of the Microsoft services such as Groove, Office, and OneDrive. All of that can be downloaded from the store and can be integrated within Pixel as well.

The camera is nice even thought it is single lens, processor is snappy and works great with project fi. The thing that bugs me is that it is more from Best buy than from google directly, that 50 bucks can pay for a second charger (since it does not have wireless) and a case.

This phone is sleek. The specs inside are amazing. The outside is very nice. The fingerprint scanning on the back is a nice new touch than what I'm used to.
The phone is prone to scratches and chips when it falls but it's just like any other phone.
Not water proof but that's okay.
