Google has always been in that top tier of software and now it is a breath of fresh air that they are able to provide hardware products in that same tier. I am a heavy wireless earbud user and I must say that Google is now a strong competitor to Apple and Sony in the wireless earbud department. Right out of the box the aesthetics and build quality of these headphones are great as I love the matte look and feel as there is no cheap plastic feel to them. The wireless charging case was exactly as expected and the fast pairing worked seamlessly. I do appreciate the removal of the wingtips from the previous version as those just felt cumbersome in my ear and created an additional pressure. This did not affect the fit at all though as the earbuds fit snuggly in my ear and even after multiple runs I have yet to have any issues with the earbuds coming loose. I did use the ear tip seal check in the Pixel Buds app and it recommended moving to the larger size ear tips so I would recommend running that test before just settling on the default medium size ear tips. In regard to the actual performance though I was extremely impressed with what Google has done here. I will say my daily drivers are my airpod pros, but after using these I was shocked at how they actually sounded better for typically once you hit that $150 threshold in earbud cost there is not much difference when it comes to actual sound quality as you are simply paying for extra features, but putting recency bias aside and going and back and forth the pixel buds put out a more pronounced and fuller sound. You are also not losing any of those extra features here with the pixel buds as the active noise cancellation is top notch and nearly matches that of the Sony WF-100XM4 earbuds which are noted as being the king of the mountain. Additionally, the transparency mode, call quality (both incoming and outgoing), automatic device switching, built-in Google Assistant, and in-ear detection are all on par with both those of Apple and Sony. There are a couple items I do want to highlight that I really liked with these earbuds over the competitors. The first was the simplicity of the app as every single piece of technology anymore has a dang convoluted app, but the pixel buds app was extremely straightforward and easy to use. I know I previously mentioned the active noise cancellation, but the thing that stood out was that there was not as strong of a pressure when this was turned on as with other earbuds which resulted in a much more comfortable fit. The last thing very subtle thing I want to note are the charging lights on the case as when the case is under 20% the light blinks yellow which is such a small thing, but comes in handy. Overall, there has yet to be anything I can fault these earbuds for as I am blown away by this product by Google. They are the perfect combination between the top-notch portability of the airpod pros and the superior sound quality of the Sony WF-1000XM4s. I would not hesitate to recommend these to anyone, especially if they are an Android user. If Google can build upon this success in their phone and wearables lines they definitely could dethrone Apple and Samsung in the coming years.

These earbuds are really mediocre. They only support SBC and AAC codecs and no high bit rates. ANC is meh as they don't block out a lot of noise, and Transparency mode is meh too since outside noise is muffled. They fit comfortablely and I can lay on my side while sleeping and they don't feel bad. The only thing I liked with these earbuds were it's battery life and case design. That's about it. If these were lower in price then it'll justify the average quality features. Wait until these drop in price or save a bit more for Sennheiser's MTW3 for $50 more for better quality.

I have always wanted a pair of these headphones, but when they first came out, I think the features that were listed worked best with a Pixel device. So I avoided it. So when these came out, I had to give it a try. The box is small/smol and very eco friendly. There are no cables or bricks here. So you will need to use your existing USB C or just pop it on your wireless charging pad. The other stuff in the box are just the larger and smaller ear tips. They come preinstalled with the medium sized ones. The case is screams quality to me. I feel like I am getting a premium build here and this is before even opening the case. I have more expensive buds and that case feels a little less premium in the hand. I recommend downloading the app before pairing the device and also use the latest version of Android. I am pairing it with my Samsung Galaxy S20FE device on T-Mobile. After the app is installed. I opened the app and then opened the case. The phone immediately popped up the picture of the buds to ask if I want to pair it. Following the on-screen instructions, it paired within less than a minute. When I first put these on, I was in a High School Volleyball game, so there was a lot of background noise, echos and such. But when the headphones activated in the ear, a weird sense of silence filtered in. Meaning the voices were still heard but most of the background noise was muted out. You can hear some, but not all. I actually let my wife try this experience too, however, she is partially deaf, so I wasn't sure if she would get the same reaction I did. And to my surprise, she did experience the same filtered noise cancellation. This is where Google software magic comes into play. I have a couple buds that also have ANC and this has the most noticeable ANC out of the three I have. And they vary in price as well. In playing videos and music, I have to say the soundstage is good, but not fantastic. For me a great experience is clear and crisp bass. However, saying that. I did enjoy wearing the buds because they are comfortable to wear even after a straight 2 hours of usage. The battery life seems really good so far and connection has been solid, while walking around the house with these on. Bottom line, you are getting these Pros because of the wealth of features. The sound is in the middle of the road for me. But for many, it may be fine. I can see using these on a trip because of the ANC and it's that good. Not top of the line, but I can see it getting better with software updates.

I want to love these earbuds. I love the features of what they're capable of. I don't know if I got a dud or what, but my pixel buds randomly paused when I'm listening to anything. Doesn't matter if I have one button or both. I have done three or four resets and check all the settings and disabled some settings and it still does the exact same thing. This issue makes them pretty much unusable.

Hello there, SheilaJ. Thanks for posting a review. We’re glad that you like the sound of the Pixel Buds Pro, but we’re sorry to learn you ran into comfort and fit issues.

Your Pixel Buds are pre-attached with medium eartips and come with small and large ear tips so that you can improve your fit. Try different sizes for each ear to find the best fit. A tight seal gives you better sound, noise cancellation, and mic performance. Check this link for more details: https://support.google.com/googlepixelbuds/answer/7573099

However, we'd like to help improve your experience in terms of the fit and comfort of your Pixel Buds Pro.

To get a secured fit with your Pixel Buds Pro, try to gently insert your earbud into the ear. After inserting each earbud, slightly rotate it back and forth until it comfortably stays in place when you move your head or tap either earbud. Googles newest line of wireless earbuds have arrived and they are trying to compete with other name brands in this same price point. once the box was opened i was facing a pill shaped case similar to last years buds by google. They came fully charged so Pairing was super simple (i’m using and iphone for this) and was fast. I immediately went into noise cancellation mode by long pressing on the right earbud. Things got super quiet. I’m not sure where they rank with other popular buds out there but i was impressed with how quiet things got around me. Playing some of my favorite songs was a joy. These do get plenty loud and sound really good. Not top tear good but really good. There is base and they do not sound tinny as you get with some earbuds. The base really helped push these forward and makes them have a full sound stage. I then long pressed the earbud again and it went into transparency mode. This mode is good for those walking about outside or for those that need to be able to hear while listening to music. It worked really well in my use case. You can get up to 31 hours of listening time with the included case and i believe that’s with active noise canceling turned off. I have yet to run out of battery before i need a charger. They seem to last a good amount of time without needing to return them to the case to recharge. One thing that i truly love is the wireless charging aspect. I can just lay them on my charging pad and they charge up without the need of a cord. love that part. Supposedly these have what google is calling silent seal which uses sensors to make it feel less like you’re plugged up when having them in your ears. To me this works fairly well. i still get a small feeling of being plugged up. but it’s better than other headphones out there that’s for sure. If you’re in the market for some nice decently priced earbuds with active noise cancellation the i would definitely give these a shot. at 199 i feel they are priced fair.
