Good sound, but many other frustrations

They sound great, there's no denying that. But there are so many weird problems and they're just way too finicky for me to seriously recommend.
The second day I had them, the left bud refused to charge. I tried resetting according to the instructions, eventually had to contact support and they walked me through the process. That's a terrible experience for the second day owning a nearly $200 product.
I have a Pixel 5 phone, so I expected these to work perfectly, and they usually work pretty well. But frequently, I'll look at my phone and notice that the buds are connected to Bluetooth, even though they're in the case. Sometimes I have to disconnect multiple times before it's successful. And if they're connected and my phone rings or notifies, I don't hear it!
I still have occasional problems with one bud not charging. I'll open them up to start listening to something, and one or the other will be at 1%, even though they've been sitting in the case overnight.
So they sound great, but just way too many problems for what's supposed to be Google's flagship earbuds.

I got a pair as a gift and tried them out for a week. I could not go for a walk or jog without one or the other ear buds cutting out every few seconds then reconnecting then cutting out and on and on and on.
The Google support pages are full of trolls blaming the end user for ideas sick as too much radio interference I'm your house (I can walk in an open field and get cutouts), try a new factory reset of the buds - then do that for your phone, don't put it in that back pocket (but I can get the buds to cut out when in any pocket to include a chest pocket or even when holding my phone at arm's length directly in front of my face).
In the end they simply do not work due to bad programming, bad design, or bad QC. I normally love Google products but I felt like I was a paying beta tester spending my own time and effort trying to troubleshoot these buggy earbuds. We sent ours back for a full refund. Stay away.

I purchased these from google store in late May. Minimal user of earbuds in general but thought these would be nice to have. The disconnect issues are very true and very frustrating. I would have returned but missed the 14 day by a couple days. With Pixel4 the music cuts out but works its way back this is not the case with my pixel book. It is worse, drops buds completely have to reconnect them. A feature I like on my $30 amazon buds is that it would connect to multiple devices at once. phone and tablet receiving notifications/audio from both at same time. If you are ok with disconnects the sound is decent they aren't terribly noticeable in your ears.

All about the Treble, no Bass

I've read countless reviews on how these are an improvement in sound over the original wired Pixel Buds. That may be true. But when comparing to other wireless earbuds, it has been shocking to me that no one else is complaining about the lack of bass. Maybe it's just me but they sound very tinny like the treble is cranked up. Even after the software upgrade that was supposed to boost the bass, they still sounded terrible to me. I thought maybe it was just my phone which is a Pixel XL 2. But they sound just as bad on my wife's pixel XL 3. I returned them.

Honestly, a terrible product; deeply regret buying

I have had a terrible experience with my Google Buds and would strongly recommend not buying these. I have not regretted buying an electronic product more ... probably in my entire life, and I have never written a negative review before in my life. That's how bad an experience I have had with these buds.
First off, Google gives you 15 day to return this. So return quickly if you have problems, which you will probably have.
Problems ... I had so many problems with these it's hard to know where to begin. First, the buds would connect to my phone when in the case. Hmmm ... that doesn't make sense. I would be on the phone and the buds would just "turn on" and start taking the call in my case a room away while I'm holding my phone. Not good. Then, my phone started to connect to only 1 of the 2 buds. Totally separate but incredibly annoying problem. I have no idea why that was happening. Now, after "forgetting" the buds in an attempt to fix that problem, my phone cannot connect to them at all!!! I reached out to Google and they are like, "We cannot accept returns on these".
Terrible product. I honestly will probably be throwing them away and buying something new, that's how bad they are. Get something else, maybe Bose etc. These suck.

I wanted to love these...

I wanted to love these, but I just can't. The battery is mediocre, but I could live with that. The thing that is worst is the fiddly touch controls. I tap them, I press them, I brush them. They just never seem to do what I want. The volume control is the only thing that works for me. Even hanging up a call I tap and tap and tap, it won't hang the blurrging thing up. When it finally does I have no idea what I did that was different.
Just as bad is that the google assistant doesn't seem to respond as well as it does with my phone directly or with the home mini speakers in my house. That was the number one selling point and it is such a disappointment. The last straw was when I tried to place a call using assistant and it just couldn't understand me, meanwhile I am trying to get further and further away from my home minis because they have zero problem and keep trying to make the call for me. I used the press and hold function to make the call directly with the buds and it keeps not understanding who I am calling. It is all WAY to much hassle. This should be easy, they are just earbuds.
If you buy these. Get them from Best Buy! The google store only gives you a 15 day window to return things and you have to pay for shipping and a restock fee. I hate their product but I kept trying to love them and I am now out $179 because I tried to by loyal to the pixel brand for 21 days instead of 15.
I've returned to my Jabra 65t earbuds which work better and have a functional google assistant.
They pixel buds do look cool though. Small favors...

Bought these to work with my Pixel 3XL. I am shocked how inconsistently they connect. They constantly have issues connecting and disconnecting. I have the audio cut out on music or calls when the phone is in my pocket or sitting on the table next to me.
There is all kind of fancy things they can do but they ultimately fail at the main reason why you bought them - a set of head phones.

The features for android users are great! Google assistant with either the wake word or a long press on the buds is very handy. Great touch sensitivity on the buds for volume, skip song etc. The case is nice and compact and the snap close flip lid is very satisfying.
Biggest cons I would say is the battery life only lasting me about 4.5 hours but if you place them in the case they will quick charger.
Overall I am really enjoying this buds and have used them daily for the last 2 weeks.

I had a ton of issues with these, some software and some hardware. Ended up returning them. Some of the issues:
- The fins hurt my ears and there was no option to take them out
- Mediocre sound, really quiet and had to turn up the bass in my EQ. The app doesn't even have its own EQ, so I had to use a third-party one.
- Constant static in the right ear. Drove me insane.
- Really unclear how I was supposed to update them. They just say "updates will be automatically applied" but they don't provide any progress bar. They also don't have update notes.
- Middling battery life, I make a lot of 5-hour phone calls and these would be running on fumes by the end.
- The touch controls were super sensitive and I was constantly triggering Google assistant when I just wanted to readjust their position.
- Would randomly disconnect or become quieter for a few seconds.
Overall, would recommend you look elsewhere. I ended up with the Galaxy Buds+ and am super happy with them.

I've been using the Pixel Buds a lot for calls since working from home and it's easy to connect with my Macbook and switch back and forth with my phone too! Cool part is that I can talk even with a mask on when I'm outside taking a call in these COVID times. I sound clear to the other side even with a pretty thick mask. I haven't had any connectivity issues myself. I'm not an audiophile but the sound quality is pretty good to me when I listen to music.

Does not work as advertised.

To start, I have been a Google loyalist since the pixel 2 came out, it is still the best phone I have ever owned and I was really excited to finally have a pair of wireless headphones that work with my device like Apple and Samsung have for their devices.
Unfortunately, when I picked up my headphones and tried them for the first time they immediately cut out. At first I didnt panic, I read that some of the devices had this issue but that a firmware update was sent out to fix it and for the most part it had for many people. Except me. After doing everything I could to get the earbuds to connect properly with no luck I contacted Google support. They put me through the motions of resetting the device, turning off location services and automatic updates, disconnecting and reconnecting etc. This whole process took around an hour and nothing worked at all, every song or podcast I listened to would result in the device cutting out at different parts of the media. Even tried to reset my phone to see if that would do the trick. It didn't.
It was very frustrating to spend $180.00 ($195.00~ after tax) on headphones that are advertised as a premium product designed to work seamlessly with my phone (Pixel 2 XL), just to have them cut out immediately on the first song I tried to listen to, as well as every song after that first one. Might seem funny to some but for me getting those headphones was a big deal, I don't have a lot of money to spend on nice things so I figured because of everything I read online and being a Pixel owner the Google Buds 2 was a guarantee for me to not waste that much money. On top of that the only store where I could pick them up was located nearly an hour away from me so I also wasted all that time and gas travelling to pick up the headphones. The reason I chose to pick them up instead of having them delivered is because I have a lot of trouble sleeping and often use headphones to help me fall asleep and headphones with wires is not ideal for that scenario, waiting the estimated 2-3 weeks was not ideal at all, and from what I could tell if I had them delivered I may not have been able to get a refund if they didn't work because of the amount of time that would have passed since the purchase date. Overall it was just a very unpleasant experience.
Researching the issue it is clear that it is a widespread problem with the devices and that for a lot of people the firmware update isn't doing the trick, if they are lucky to get the firmware update in the first place place. Is it because I have an older generation phone? In which case if a device only works how it's intended for the newer phones I think it would be nice if that was clear before anyone spends the money on a device that does not work as advertised. While my phone is starting to slow down on me I still love my Pixel 2 XL, it's the best phone I have ever had, I've been a Google loyalist like many are to Apple or Samsung but this was a very frustrating and just unpleasant experience, I was planning on upgrading to the 4a when I saved enough money because I have always wanted the seamless bluetooth headphone connection with the device that the Pixel Buds 2 was supposed to provide. At the moment I am not sure what I will do but I just wanted to provide some feedback so someone doesn't make the same mistake I did.

I signed up for product availability notification after reading an early review. Loved the earbud tapping and swiping functionality while listening to music. Sound quality was good and the case was nicely designed.
Unfortunately, the Pixel Buds suffer from an audio problem where the sound will intermittently disappear from one bud. This issue has been noted in other reviews. Additionally, the ear piece design did not fit snugly in my ear despite trying all three of the size options included. On several occasions, the Pixel Buds fell out of my ear.
I'm in the process of returning the Pixel Buds.

Terrible connection issues with my Pixel 5, very poor fit in ears, and the stabilizer arc causes pain after wearing the buds for longer than an hour. The Google assistant is obnoxious, and there is no way to play just the notification sound, it will force you to use its read aloud function to hear your notifications. I've read that the connection issue was already a problem with the first gen Pixel Buds, and wasn't surprised that Google hasn't fixed the problem.

The buds won't stay connected while my phone is in my pocket. Surprising since both buds and phone are Pixel products. A few months ago, I noticed my buds, while in their case on my dresser, would randomly connect to my phone. Google support had me reset them, but the problem kept happening. Now, the right ear bud won't charge. Google chat was worthless and just kept saying I was out of luck because I was 1 day out of warranty.

Hi Xandersven, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience with the Pixel Buds' connectivity has been less than ideal. We recommend that you check the connection between your Pixel Buds and your host device, and update your firmware.
Here are some steps to guide you:
1. Confirm that your Pixel Buds and charging case are charged. 2. Confirm that your source device’s (phone/laptop/tablet) Bluetooth® is on, and that your Pixel Buds are close by and paired with your device. 3. On your source device (may be your phone or laptop), turn Bluetooth off, then turn it back on. 4. Wait for the Pixel Buds to automatically reconnect with your previously connected source device. This can take several seconds. If necessary, please make sure your source device is connected by selecting "Pixel Buds" from the source device's Bluetooth menu. 5. Make sure you have the newest firmware.

I bought these in August 2020. It's February 2021. They totally stopped working. Tried all the fixes and nothing worked. They disconnect as soon as I take them out of the case. I never used them outside or anything. I'm 60 years old I use them in the house to listen to audiobooks. I have the geek squad warranty so we'll see how it goes tomorrow when I contact them. For the money I paid I hope they do right by me.

Wow, this is a sad review to write because nobody out there was more excited for these than I was. I waited on the waitlist for months and purchased them right away.
Since having first opened them out of the box, the sound would cut in and out. It would do this for short seconds then at bursts that lasted minutes at a time. Eventually, the sound completely stopped working. I worked with google support to get the sound working but the cutting in and problem persisted. Same on my different devices (we use Pixel phones as well).
Eventually, I was able to get a replacement set of pixel buds. Although, to my shock and horror, the replacement device had worse issues with the sound than my previous buds!!! The sound on the replacement buds cut in and out during the pairing step!
Horrified, I contacted google to get a refund and return both devices. Google refused, saying that it had been more than 3 weeks - despite the fact that the original device had issues from the very beginning.
I had to do a charge back through Chase. I've never bought an apple product all my life, but I guess I'll be buying air pods...
This is a garbage product! Beware!!
