I have used every generation of these devices, and recently bought one of these to replace the Google TV that was built in to my one year old TV. Just bought a second one for the same reason!

A Better Option for Parent Controls, Not Perfect

As for my teen, since we were already using Family Link for his phone and tablet, this just makes more sense. However, nobody (i.e. Apple or Amazon) can seem to get parental controls right! Still lacking in this department. I have not used it much, but performance seem better than even the latest Firestick. The porcelain color remote tells the truth of what black remotes tend to hide! Yuck. Think back to when computer keyboards and mice were light in color!

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just got mine today, upgraded from a CCwGTV 4k and after using it I think I am going to return it and go back to CCwGTV. First of all I always had my streaming sticks connected to the HDMI in on my soundbar and had audio passthrough on my Chromecast and my Roku previously and it worked great. This way my sound bar decodes the audio and it works great. Tv always displays if it is DD, DD+, etc. Well the Google streamer does not support audio passthrough whatsoever that I can find and decodes everything. I have it connected to HDMI in on my soundbar and it displays DTHD on my TV for everything even if its PCM audio. Soundbar now only plays PCM out of the 2 stereo speakers where previously using CCwGTV my soundbar would make it into 5.1 surround sound even for PCM, yes it is not real 5.1 but it worked really well and I no longer have that option. Also since the streamer decodes audio I have so many issues with adjusting the volume on my soundbar. When changing channels and apps, I will adjust the volume and it shows it is changing on the soundbar but the volume level stays the same. If you mute and unmute after adjusting the volume immediately changes to that level. Didn't have this issue with CCwGTV. And one more thing i noticed is the viewpoint resolution for YouTube and YTTV is 1920 x1080 instead of 4k. CCwGTV says 1920 x 1080 *2 aka 4k. Is it something to do with android 14 vs 12? Idk but makes no sense it would be lowered. To me this is a downgrade as CCwGTV was not that slow and I never had enough apps to fill up the storage so after being excited about this device I'm now so disappointed.

Posted .Hello there. The Google TV Streamer 4K does not support audio passthrough, meaning it decodes the audio itself instead of passing it to your soundbar.
