Spirit of movie faithful to books

I grew up reading Goosebumps books, so I was tepid at first when the first trailers came out for the movie. Luckily, I did decide to see the movie in the theater and enjoyed all the references and respect the film had for the original material. I'm not a huge Jack Black fan, but he, for the most part, keeps himself in check and is enjoyable playing R.L. Stine. This edition comes with a book, so it would be a good starting point for those new to the franchise.

The movie itself is cute and disturbing at the same time. Those who read the original books will be happy to hear that all of the most memorable scary characters make an appearance in the movie. What's better, the writers accomplished doing so while keeping it organic to the storyline. For those with 3D, this is a "very good" 3D experience. It's not a post-production 3D, nor is it as good as Avatar or Hugo, but leans toward the better experience.

Zach (Dylan Minnette) and his Vice Principle mom Gale (Amy Ryan) move to Madison, Delaware next to the home of R.L. Stine (Jack Black). Through a series of mishaps, Stine's magical books are opened releasing all the monsters from his stories. You don't have to be familiar with the works of Stine to appreciate the film filled with puns and corny lines. The 3D looks amazing. This is a fun popcorn movie that I would recommend to anybody.

If your someone who has read or liked anything Goosebumps then you will definitely want to watch this movie. The story line to the movie is good and pretty well thought out. For younger kids I could see some getting a little scared but the movie is more of a comedy than a horror movie. I have not seen the 3D since I don't have a 3D TV yet but I can say that the 2D graphics are excellent. All in all this is a good by for anyone.

I remember the Goosebumps series being around when my kids were in school, but they never really got into them. Now that they are grown, my husband and I toss out the occasional "Movie Night" so we get the family together for some comfort food and relaxation time. This flick was a winner. The story and characters were enjoyable and special effects pretty well done. This one will be kept in our movie library with a star on it.

I read these books like crazy as a kid, and was up to watch the TV show every Saturday. I couldn't get enough of it. This movie hits everything it should. The cast does a fantastic job and the writers put the most memorable monsters front and center for the most part. It's the right length to be enjoyable and not overstay it's welcome. This is a perfect family movie as well. Both my 10 year old and my 3 year old love it.

When they announced they were making a Goosebumps movie, many questions arose. What book would it be based on? Would it be based on a book? The answer is that it is an original story. And that's not a bad thing. The end result is a funny wild scary ride that is amazing for kids and parents alike. Jack Black is great as Goosebumps writer R.L. Stine and Slappy and the supporting kids are great as well. Definitely worth a watch!

I used to watch the Goosebumps TV series so wanted to see the 3D movie starring Jack Black. I was not disappointed. The movie is exciting and I liked the choice of actors. You must be willing to enjoy a somewhat, but not totally, predictable series of events. If you consider yourself a "sophisticated" movie critic, this movie is not for you. I was happy with the 3D effects.

I bought this movie because my 7 year old son watched it in school. He loved it and so I decided to buy it for him. We watched it last night and the movie was okay. I liked it, but it wasn't amazing. It was a little slow and predictable at the beginning, but the middle and end were much better. I loved reading Goosebumps as a child and I am glad this movie made my son want to start reading the books, too.

When I was younger I absolutely loved the goosebumps book series and my children love them as well. We hadn't seen the movie before making the purchase but I'm so glad we went ahead and got it anyways. It beat my expectations and is a family favorite that we all enjoy. It's funny, keeps the kids on their toes and isn't too scary for them. Definitely satisfied with it. Great movie in every aspect.

Purchased this online to realize the picture on the website is not accurate. When I scanned the barcode it still goes to the product showing the version that includes the digital copy. The copy I received only has Blu-ray and DVD. No mention of a digital copy which was the whole purpose in buying it. Our girls wanted to be able to watch it on their iPads.

My husband and I enjoyed watching Goosebumps. It brought back wonderful memories of these books being read to our son each night. He ended up with the entire collection. Jack Black was wonderful in the role of R. L. Stine. We found it fun to watch and enjoyed the many surprises in the story. I was happy to be able to get the Blockbuster exclusive that included a soft back copy of a Goosebumps novel.

Pretty cool movie the special effects where neat but even better in 3D. And who the heck don't like Jack Black? Once he stop acting weird and comes out to play its just awesome. Another great movie for the Jack Black movie fans. Entertaining for the whole family. Might be a little scary for younger audiences. This movie has made me to want to read/listen to the RL Stine books. So happy haunt. Lol

Jack Black as R. L. Stine may not look remotely like the author, but he is a trip at playing the part of someone totally immersed in this genre of comic/horror. This film could not have been done without todays CGI magic. How the nerd conquered the werewolf is a hoot, and the cameo of Stine himself rounds out the laughs. Good entertainment, even if it tries too hard at times!

Although, R.L. Stine is a kid's writer, this movie could scare anyone of any age. Great monsters , both scary looking(wolfman) and some kind of cute looking(garden gnomes). All treacherous & after the teens in this super movie. It has, of course the twist at the end that Stine is noted for.

I didn't read a lot of Goosebumps books - growing up - they were a little "after my time". I imagine someone who has read them will really enjoy this movie as the "monster" characters come rolling out of the movie "non-stop". But, I did enjoy this movie. I thought the CGI was excellent. It was funny as well as suspenseful and it really had a good story! It's a "fun" movie.

My kids loved this movie. Plus it got both of them interested in reading the book series so anything that encourages a good habit like reading without making it seem like a punishment works for me. Also, during an abnormally cold, rainy, windy Florida winter it ate up a couple of hours indoors where they weren't bouncing off the walls, terrorizing the dogs etc...

To be honest, I was not expecting this movie to be that great. My 10-year-old wanted to see it, so we went to a cheap matinee. To my surprise, it is actually a very entertaining movie and we ended up purchasing it from Best Buy the day it came out. If you are a fan of Jack Black and/or the Goosebump books, this movie will entertain and provide some laughs.

The plot has been used before - characters from a book coming alive - but this is told in a different way. The CG graphics are great and blend the live and graphic characters very well and helps the plot develop the contest between good and evil. This is a very entertaining movie, not at all scary, and it does keep you wanting to see what's going to happen next.
