Gopro is dead
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Used only a couple times, now it won't function properly at all. I will never buy a GoPro product again. GoPro was not subjected to any rough handling or even water. Just died sitting waiting to be used again.

Great Entry Level Option
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been on the fence about getting a new GoPro for a long time now. I love the functionality of the high end models, but the price is restrictive for me based on the fact that I would not use it daily. The new HERO camera is perfect for me in this scenario! The price point is excellent, and it still films 4K video, which is very impressive. It is very small and easy to throw in my backpack, and clip onto my helmet to gather some cool footage when I go for a ride, or even to use when riding to work to have record of any accidents that may happen. There are definitely some tradeoffs on this model and I will go over those below, but they should not deter you from snagging this compact 4K camera to use for your adventures! Pros: - Price. - 4K Video Quality. - Portable size. - Lightweight Cons: - No removable battery. - No physical image stabilization, it is all done in the app. - Limited options on Slow Motion videos. Overall if you are a casual user and just want to get into the POV camera scene, the HERO is a fantastic option for you. If you want all the bells and whistles though, opt to spend about double and get the Hero 13!

GoPro HERO: Small Camera, Big Adventures
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently tried out the GoPro HERO Action Camera, and I’ve got to say, it’s been really great for all the outdoor stuff I do. The camera is super small and light, so I can carry it around easily or attach it to my gear. It’s also waterproof up to 33 feet, which makes it perfect for swimming or hiking in bad weather The best part is the 4K video quality—it looks amazing. The videos come out clear, and the HyperSmooth stabilization keeps everything steady, even when I’m moving fast, like when I’m biking or skiing. It also takes 12MP photos, which look good enough for sharing online Another cool feature is the voice control. I don’t have to stop and press buttons—I can just tell it to start recording, which is super handy when my hands are busy. The battery lasts for about an hour when recording in 4K, which works for most of the things I do. It charges with a USB-C, so it’s easy to plug in when I need to recharge. I also love the GoPro Quik app. It makes editing my videos really easy. I can cut clips, grab photos from videos, and even make quick highlight reels. Plus, I can upload my videos wirelessly to my phone or the cloud without needing any cables There are a couple of things that could be better, like the battery not being swappable, but for the price, this camera does a fantastic job. If you want a tough, easy-to-use action camera with awesome video quality, the GoPro HERO is a solid choice.

Gopro sucks
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device has a very cool idea behind it, but when put to the test, it couldnt handle it. Wifi connectivity issues, content issues, and just an overall bad app experience made this a terrible purchase for me. Gopro, you lost my respect.

Product shouldn’t require and update off the shelf
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yery disappointed in this camera. I’ve been on 2 really important trips and was not able to use the camera at all. For some reason it will not stay connected es long enough to complete the update and therefore without the update the camera is just useless. I will be going to try and get a refund today.

Disappointed in first camera purchase
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Product is not the best to work with, recording a video or taking a simple photo has never been more difficult, trying to set it up was tedious and I wanted to take it back the same day I purchased it. Will continue to try it out, hopefully will serve its purpose:(

Good things come in small packages
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to start off by saying this is the 1st GoPro product that I have had, so I can’t really compare it to another product. But as my review title states, good things come in small packages. I never thought the HERO would be this small, and when I first received the package I thought this must really be crammed in there, but its just that small, but don’t let the size fool you. I received this and my youngest son is an avid trout fisherman to the point he and his friends will hike/bike for miles to go to lakes or streams that most people won’t due to the fact that its so far off the beaten path. He had been shopping for an action camera to record his trips in & out and also to record his fishing experience. He had purchased a rig to use his cellphone but he said it was too bulky and was more cumbersome than helpful. He did purchase an aftermarket “carrier” off of the internet and unfortunately on his first trip it didn’t attach properly and the HERO fell off as he was biking in, the camera was not damaged but filming of his trip was not very pleasant to say the least. What he likes about this GoPro HERO is again the size of it, it is super small but it records video crystal clear, he purchased an extreme rated memory card that was 256 gb and it was recognized by the camera and formatted immediately. He downloaded the GoPro Quick app and it paired to his phone w/ in minutes and after setting up his account he was recording. He plans to start a blog on one of the video channels on the internet to allow others to see the trips that they take and the detail of this camera. I was shocked of the clarity and the quality of the videos. The Quick app makes quick work of downloading video a breeze, GoPro really has this well thought out and makes the process super easy. It comes w/ limited attachments, a power cord to charge it, which we did and again the entire process from unboxing to filming is simple and not time consuming. This is a well built camera for outdoor enthusiasts and people that are into recreation that take life to the edge and want to record it. He has used it only a handful of times to this point but I can see many uses for this camera. If you are in the market for an action camera to record “living on the edge” this GoPro HERO is highly recommended.

Small camera packed with features.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had a few GoPro action cameras in the past, so I was excited to try out the new Hero model. Upon first inspection you can tell that GoPro has built a quality camera. It feels nice and sturdy in your hand and has good weight to it, yet stil light enough to use for activities. One new feature that I was not crazy about compared to my previous models is the lens. The lense protrudes out past the body, making the camera somewhat more bulky or odd shaped. Not a huge deal as I assume I can find a case that would fit it, but it is not as sleek. The camera itself performs very well. I am using it mostly in 1080 mode and all of my recordings are extremely crisp and clear. This mode also allows me to have extended battery life vs 4k. After using the camera in 1080 mode for 30 minutes straight, I only used up about 25 percent of the battery life. The microphone was also suprisingly clear. All of the audio came out very nice. I did shoot some 4k videos and they were much better than the 1080 video, however I noticed reduced battery life. I will continue to play around with the video settings based on the type of video I will be trying to capture. One other drawback is the battery is not removable. This can be an issue if you are doing a longer activity and want to record a lot of footage. You will have to stop to charge the battery, as opposed to removing and swapping out to a fully charged battery. The device itself is very small and impressive for it's size. The touchscreen is very responsive and the ports are easy to get to. I recommend a higher end SD card. Overall, I do recommend this action camera to anyone who likes a small portable GoPro. The battery life is excellent and the video quality is impressive. You cannot go wrong.

Disappointing Battery on a Basic GoPro
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Camera comes nicely packaged in a paper/cardboard recyclable container. Only accessories included are the USBc charging cable, 3 pieces of brackets including a strip of one time use mounting tape. No Memory card is included in the package. A Micro SD card is required. Installation of the GoPro Quik app is required, as well as making an account to use the app, which is free. However, many times you are asked to upgrade to the Premium subscription for cloud service, premium editing tools, and discounts on accessories through the website store. That subscription is normally $50 per year, but you can get your first year for $25. The app does use 5Ghz WIFI between the camera and you phone for previewing and downloading videos to your phone so its pretty fast. Pictures and videos are very clear, and color is good. I like the option to be able to control the camera for pictures, videos, and slo-mo videos from my phone rather than the camera itself. The battery goes down fast! And in this model it is not swap able or replaceable! I fully charged and updated the camera when it arrived. I left it turned off for several (5) days, and it was DEAD when I tried to use it. I recharged it again from 0 to 95% in 45 minutes. The camera does get warm while recharging. However, the next night while it was off, it lost another 15% of the battery level in 19 hours just sitting. This is frustrating to me, as I need to leave it connected whenever I am not using it. And while using it, the battery still goes down pretty fast. CONCLUSION: Like others, I would say this is a basic small GoPro with mediocre to poor battery life. You likely will need to pay for the premium subscription for cloud storage and use that discount ability to buy more mounts and sticky pads if you are mounting your camera in that way. Price is decent, but I recommend to double your budget and get the Hero 13 Action with many more features, 2 batteries, and ability to charge while using it.

Good camera, but slow transfer and no USB support!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m mostly really happy with this GoPro. First, it’s TINY and light. The main purpose for me will be to mount it on my dog with the Fetch harness and capture video of his POV. He’s a small dog, so this size of the Hero is excellent for that. I also plan to use it while traveling, and here again the size (and lack of front display) will help to keep it somewhat less conspicuous. The interface is simple and easy. It’s feature-light, but it’s enough for me. Swipe up and down to access different settings, swipe left and right to select. There’s also voice commands, which I found was mostly accurate and responsive, but I don’t really need it, so I’ll be turning it off in the hopes that maybe it’ll give me a bit more battery time. I’m happy with the resolution and video quality. It’s a step down from their standard line, but it’s enough for my needs. The software video stabilization is decent, but here is where I have issues with the feature set of this camera. The only way to get stabilized video is through the Quik app. This is fine except that the camera supports only WiFi connections to the phone–no USB. Transferring a 2-minute video took me 20 minutes. I tried both the 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz WiFi connections, and both were super slow. Keep in mind, the user can’t navigate away from the transfer screen in the app on your phone. You’re stuck waiting for the transfer to complete. I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my setup, but assuming it’s working as intended, that speed is a real problem. Basically, it appears that this camera is sold on a razor-razor blades model: Inexpensive camera upfront plus expensive basic features after sale. (And for an action camera, stabilization is a basic feature.) You can auto-upload the video from the camera while charging to GoPro Premium and then download the video via Quik for stabilization, but that’s an add-on premium service. GoPro removed a few dollars on cost to the customer for USB support in the hopes of cashing in on recurring revenue--a pretty anti-consumer move if you ask me. All told, I’m happy with the camera. The simple features and tiny dimensions definitely have their place, but I'm not happy about the lack of USB, which is going to make using the Hero quite painful when there’s a lot of video I want stabilized.
