Fun to use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One thing I enjoy with GoPro is that they still use the same bracket style. This allows me to use all of my old GoPro accessories that I have. This also has a screw so you can use a tripod if you would like. I do have a couple complaints first that keeps me from giving this a 4 star. First is that this does not have a replaceable battery. Nore, does it have a way to swap out a battery. I would at least go with having a way to swap out the battery and just have to buy my own backup. But I can't even do that. My other smaller complaint for now and I hope they can update this, but for now it seems I cannot use this as a webcam. When I plug it into my PC, even with the software from their website. They have a GoPro webcam software so I hope that it can get updated to include this GoPro. Right now, it just tells me to change the preference but what it says to do is not available to do. I also notice that for some reason at times I get a SD card error. Same card though that works fine the rest of the time. So not sure what that is about. I just turn it off and back on. But the good. This is a lot of fun to use. I have bought some accessories in the past for another GoPro and glad I can still use those. That includes a belt system that allows me to place the GoPro on my chest and then record from my view. I like that this one is small and compact but still has a screen on it. I like that it does have a light on it and you can use the light without the GoPro being on. However, I do not see a way to turn the light on thru the app. So, you have to turn the light on manually from the button. Video quality looks great. 4K at 30Hz or you can do 1080p and save the battery life. Overall, I like the compact size as that makes this light and easy to take with you. I do wish you could use it like a webcam though. Sometimes setting up a camera over the shoulder to capture screen can get in the way, if I could set this up with my chest clamp piece, that would be a lot easier and out of the way. I do recommend this though if you are looking at a GoPro and wanting one that is small and compact and do not need one to last all day.

Solid entry level action cam with LEDs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.GoPro’s latest camera might sound like a drunk protagonist, but it’s a tight little package that sheds light on situations where other GoPro products wouldn’t capture much. The Lit HERO is a budget friendly action camera that includes a bright LED light on the front. Let’s see what it can do. GoPro is basically the original action camera, and the Lit HERO represents a sub $300 LED lit action cam that can do slow motion, 4:3, 4K60, and 12mp photos in a very small package. The physical size of this device is 2 1/4 inches wide, a little under 2 inches high, and slightly thicker than an inch. It sports a small touch screen to help frame shots, and is really intuitive to use. Out of the box, you get a couple mounts, usb cable, and some stickers. The mounting options are basic, but do offer a sticky mount for a helmet or other curved surface, as well as standard tripod mounting screws and compatibility with a lot of GoPro’s mounting accessories if you have previous investment in this space. The camera is picky about what SD cards it wants to use. It wants V30 cards; and reads the cards metadata to determine if the card is such. If not, it displays a warning, letting you know you may not be able to use the card for the highest settings. The camera truly is small, and built well. GoPro is legendary in it’s durability, and this unit seems no different. The outer frame appears to be an aluminum alloy, with plastic innards that help enable the wireless connectivity. The lens protector easily rotates off, and is replaceable which means if it gets scratched, it’s a fairly easy and cheap fix. The LEDs are protected by a glass cover. The camera also supports 16ft (3m) water proof certification. This means this camera can survive a bit of rain, and even a shallow pool. The footage captured seems congruent with what I’d expect. The sensor likes light, and the LED light helps. In low light conditions, the noise and blurring are quite high. Adding light from the LED helps, but it shines in outdoor situations. I prefer 60Hz, and thus 4:3 being limited to 30hz for 4k is a bit of a problem. Luckily you can do 16:9 4k at 60hz. The microphone is passable for general use, but you’ll want to sync in an external mic if you’re doing vlogging. Battery life seems to be at least an hour, with some additional time depending on the light usage and what resolution you’re recording in. The Quik app is the primary means of interfacing with the camera. This app is available on iPhone and Android, with the desktop clients being unsupported since late 2024. The one advantage of the apps is that they will do a wifi direct connection to the camera and download videos. The camera itself supports hosting on 5Ghz wireless, which means you can get some pretty decent data rates, making downloading large 4k shots less annoying. Even 20s of video can be almost 30mb of data, so WiFi 5Ghz is greatly appreciated. Once the videos are transferred they’re stored in the Quik app, and you can export them to your phone. Watch the advanced settings or you’ll get a scaled down version of the original video. I played with a few of the functions in the app, and it’s suggested edits, while cool - were sometimes hilariously tone deaf. It was interesting to see it mixing and matching footage with what was in my own phone’s video/photo library. I appreciate the creativity, but some of these AI creations are really strange. That said, the edits are sometimes perfectly on point and allow casual users to have a professional take on their video without much work. Overall the Lit HERO is a pretty solid little camera. My use cases will expand when the weather gets better, but I have no doubt that the camera is up to the challenge. With decent battery life, and durable construction with a budget price, the Lit HERO is a solid little offering. Highly recommended.

Great entry GoPro but nothing new
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This GoPro is exactly just that. A GoPro. But it adds nothing new. It looks great and works great but it's like a perfect gift for someone who wants to start vlogging versus an actual action camera. I find that it overheats and that would definitely be a problem when using it at max settings for action shots. A good camera nonetheless for your uses. It's still a GoPro and will work with your other GoPro accessories. That's the best selling point for this is that you can get into the GoPro ecosystem for such an affordable price. The size and form factor is still very good and small and it can easily fit in your pocket or bag whenever you travel. The best feature is that your files can transfer to the cloud and a highlight reel is automatically created for you while you charge it. I think that's a neat feature that makes content creation easier. The LED light at the front is incredibly bright and I find that it makes the picture too harsh. It is usable but I personally don't like it too much.

The Camera for Outdoor Low light situations
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.GoPro is the name for action cameras, they have a ton of different cameras at different price points and this one slots itself in not quite so expensive as the higher end ones, but adding some of those features especially for outdoor low light situations Packaging: To start, the packaging is the same as all GoPro cameras, it's in a paper wrapped box, gives it a little bit of a premium feel when you open it, includes the camera of course, a charging cable, a light diffuser and the mounting hardware for use with a tripod or gyro Use: To me the use of this camera is superb, as I said it slots itself in kinda ahead of the basic gopros and is more affordable than the top end ones. Many of their top end ones have a separate light which yes while it can be directional still sticks off the camera and takes up additional space. The size is so small and light that it can be used in situations where the other cameras with attached accessories may not fit. Sure it's an action camera but I've used them to look inside walls before (I live in a historic house, sometimes you just have to know what's back there without cutting a huge hole in the wall). The light makes all the difference with that and I wont have to get too creative or worry about it getting snagged on things. As far as action goes, of course it excels, having all of the features that a GoPro should have. It's worth noting that the image stabilization is done in the app rather than with hardware, but as with the lower end cameras, that seems to be more than enough. I've used the different capture modes, although I wonder why 4:3 is even included on things anymore, not just gopros but everything from phones to professional cameras, nothing really has 4:3 screens anymore with everything leaning towards 16:9 or something close to that. But of course that's not a hit against the camera itself. As for the slomo, it's one of my favorite features, to me it can make even the most basic things look cool, add some post processing effects and it's just a fun feature. There's a quick note worth mentioning about the light, while the brightness settings are adjustable, if you're using it for a vlog camera or up close, it can be rather blindingly bright, even with the lowest setting and the diffuser in place. Hopefully there's some software updates for that coming. Overall: It's a fun camera to have, useful in many situations even where the more expensive ones may not be due to it's compact size and integrated light. I can hope that there will be some software adjustments for the light levels coming, but I dont use it for a vlogging camera anyways so the brightness being a tough 'too' bright doesn't really bother me. All in all it's a great camera, especially if you're looking for that sweet spot between the bottom end gopros and the higher end ones.

Simple to Operate, Yet Powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first impression is of a very light, compact camera that is a small work of art with a screen that is almost as big as the camera. I noticed after a couple set up items like language choice, that the whole initial process is very well automated. You simply install the GoPro Quik app, and it will find your camera and take care of set up and your first firmware update. The singular thing I noticed with connectivity is that there is no fumbling around with phone settings, the engineers at GoPro developed their software to smoothly handle the connection process (I have an Android phone). Tip of my cap to those engineers for great software and for a mighty little wonder. This camera produced superior results in terms of 16:9 Video, 4:3 Video, Slow Motion, or the 12MP Photo mode; all this with a very concise GUI. Note you do need a V30 or higher SD card or you get a message that performance will not be optimized. Actually without at least the V30 SD card, none of the shooting modes will even operate; so the warning message needs to be amended by GoPro. The beautiful touch screen worked perfectly catching every single touch/selection. I found the camera’s diffused LED light to be another great feature. It has three levels of brightness. I wanted to film a wood lathe working in a completely dark garage. I tried all three settings of the LED light and was astounded by the (I’d say) professional results and subtle differences of the resulting videos – great. I did carry my camera while on a bicycle and put it inside my shirt-front pocket (it is small enough to fit the pocket); this idea worked well when not in use. I would recommend you use the included curved adhesive mount to put it on your bike helmet – that worked well for me. When viewed on my cell phone for playback the image is stabilized properly, and I did hit some big bumps that were smoothed out nicely. Another tip of the cap to the engineers for the stabilization circuits. One caution is that the little light diffuser has a bit of a weak seating on the camera and I do fear that in time it will fall off and be lost. I’d say the engineers should come up with a new part that clamps on more tightly. Overall, this is an outstanding value with excellent technology in a simple to use action camera. I highly recommend this fine camera.

The GoPro entry level camera, now brighter!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let's start with the obvious first - this isn't the top tier of GoPro cameras for those that want to start a career as a professional vlogger or make high end production movies. No, that's the NUMBERED HERO Black line that has features like interchangeable device shoes, replaceable batteries, larger lenses, front screens and is priced considerably higher. This camera is part of the basic / consumer level action camera line that started with the last generation and the basic GoPro HERO. This new "LIT HERO" has a lot of the features that made that first gen entry model a winner - ease of use for new users (built-in batteries that charge fast with USB, a single touch screen and a compact, lighter weight and durable camera body that's fully waterproof when closed) with a video light (diffuser is included and can be used or not) for filming in low light conditions. And that light is BRIGHT - it can be a little harsh, so I've been using the diffuser and the lower settings only - which means you can still get clear shots even at night. The compensation for that light is, of course, a slightly higher price so you'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth the price of entry vs the first generation. Video quality is good, though with a smaller lens and fewer options, it's not quite as good as the top tier camera. You do still get 4K 60 frames per second and your choice of 16:9 or 4:# aspect ratio shots and I've found that with good lighting (including the built-in light in the dark) you get good results. Of course you also get the standard GoPro mounting "fingers" to attach any accessories you might want. The battery is solid if not spectacular, but you can use an external battery for longer sessions, though at the cost of not being waterproof when doing this. The GoPro app is a requirement to use the camera effectively and access some settings / upgrades, but you don't need to buy a subscription if you don't want to, which is nice. At the end of the day, this is a nice upgrade on the entry level GoPro HERO that's solid for beginners / general consumers who want an action cam that's good in all light conditions without the price of the numbered HERO Black flagship line. Is it right for you? Well only you can answer that!

Good for casual use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am in love with the GoPro LIT camera due to its portability, but, as is the case with any technological device in this world, this one is not flawlessly designed either. As soon as I laid hands on this device, I found myself in awe of how portable this device is. You could literally throw this thing in a bag or even in a pocket, forgetting that you are carrying this thing with you. It is this portability that is one of the greatest attractions of this device, particularly in this day and age where people are looking to record various aspects of their lives as they move around. Now, this portability comes with a few flaws that could have been avoided by GoPro. Nonetheless, I must be truthful here — this in-built lighting isn’t exactly the best thing since sliced bread either. This lighting is best used in close-up shots where the lighting doesn’t need to be cast over a long range. I mean, if you’re recording a wide-angle shot of something in the distance, such as something located a few feet away from where you’re recording, this lighting will not be sufficient. I’d say this is great if you’re recording a simple vlog, perhaps a small scene in a movie — not something I’d use professionally if I’m recording a night shot, that is. Now comes the video quality. It is the most important thing in an action cam. It is stated that GoPro LIT supports shooting videos in the 4K format, however, to be honest with you, this is not a true 4K video. It is sharp enough to use casually, and the quality is completely great on any phone or laptop display, but on a large display or a computer screen, this video shows a lack of sharpness, which is not expected in expensive camcorders. I agree that this camcorder is primarily meant for casual use, as it looks great on a phone display. It has natural colors; the dynamic range is great, and this camcorder performs rather well in any environment. Nevertheless, the audio quality is where the GoPro LIT impressed me the most. The camera is able to record balanced audio that is not only free from the tinny quality associated with small cameras but is also not affected by wind when shooting outside. It is able to transmit voices distinctly, handle background noises reasonably well, and is not prone to distortions either. Given the small form factor of the camera, I am impressed by the audio components of the GoPro LIT. I have had the opportunity to use other action cameras that record audio as if I’m listening to a recording that is happening in a tunnel, but I’m pleased that is not the case in the GoPro LIT. That being said, as much as I am a fan of how straight-forward and versatile the GoPro LIT is, I can honestly say that this is a camcorder that is much more geared towards those who are starting out as video producers than as a high-level piece of equipment that professionals use on a daily basis. It is a great device that I’d be happy to purchase if I knew a friend who is only starting out in the world of video making. Here’s where the “don’t be too easy” factor comes in — GoPro could have done more to ensure that this particular camera meets the “LIT” standards. Firstly, the construction is a little less rugged than I’d like in a camcorder of this sort. I mean, yeah, I understand that this is a small, lightweight camcorder that is meant to be taken around everywhere. It’s not exactly something that I’d rely upon if I knew that I’m getting ready to hike through a swamp in a rainstorm. By that same token, the battery life is more than sufficient. It could certainly be better, mind you, as I’m not particularly impressed with how long I could keep this running before having to switch batteries. Nevertheless, in the midst of these issues, I am convinced that the GoPro LIT is a purpose-driven product—it is specifically designed for everyday creators who require a device that is small, simple, and capable. This is not a product that is designed to record cinematic pictures—it is a product that is born out of a necessity where one wants something that is portable, simple to operate, and uncomplicated to use. Consequently, with the 3-level LED light, one can record pictures from dusk till dawn, thanks to the four capture modes that this product allows. As a whole, the GoPro LIT is a balance between functionality and ease of use. It is not a perfect device – the "4K" video recording is not in 4K, the battery life could be extended, and the flashlight could be a little stronger – but as a bargain in terms of price and size, it is a great choice for those who are new to shooting videos. I would recommend this device to all those people who are interested in recording the world around them, rather than navigating through complicated equipment. So yeah, I’m a fan of the GoPro LIT – but not a mindless one. It is small, intelligent, and brilliant (yes, I mean that literally), but if this product hopes to keep pace with the best of the best in the field of photography, then I’d say that the GoPro LIT has a few years of growing up ahead of it.

Maybe...give it a try first.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I have all the other GoPro cameras, even the latest 13. It's amazing still, however I'm still trying to figure out where this one fits in my lineup. It's VERY compact in size, and seems to be just as rugged as all the other cameras offered. I mean this little guy can fit on your keychain if you wanted to put it there, and it will survive everything you throw at it. So hardware wise, it's right on point. Now camera quality is another story, video in particular. It's just not as good as the others GoPros, and seems very shaky with regular usage when recording. Every setting I tried, still did not give me the footage I wanted while moving around quickly at times. So I just choose to use it not moving, and the footage is decent when compared. The mics on this camera are decent as well, but I'd recommend using an external mic for sure. I decided after looking at 4k vs 1080p, I liked 1080p better. Also, I could fit more on one card too. Battery life appears to be good as well, but make sure you have a charger ready as there isn't one in the box. The addition of the light is cool, but almost NOT usable for a vlog or front facing video. WHY you ask? Well, it's just too bright. Even with the cover on, it will blind you and becomes unusable. Great idea, bad execution. For the price, I'd say grab the 13 instead...this one is not really worth it in my opinion.
