Much needed upgrade
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.GoPro’s new Hero camera is here! While it maintains the same shape and style of the Hero 9 (the 10 uses the same batteries and attachments as the 9, with the exception of the max lens mod), GoPro finally updates the main cpu to the new GoPro GP2. GoPro claims this chip is twice as fast, and it shows. Combined with a new sensor, this is the best GoPro to date. The outgoing model, the Hero 9, had a lot of features and had the first full color front screen on a GoPro, allowing for easy selfies and vlogging. Unfortunately, this additional draw on the system along with all of the advanced processing for high resolutions and frame rates made the 9 very sluggish. The menus, in particular, were a source of frustration. Thankfully, the new processor fixes this problem and the 10 is extremely responsive, feeling like a modern cell phone. The processor upgrade also unlocks even higher frame rate options and video processing is better. I felt that the 9 had some aggressive processing, for example 2.7k video looked strangely overworked and the end result was a loss of detail. Video on the 10 seems to be improved, color is better, low light performance is less noisy while still holding on to detail, and video is clearer and more natural looking. Linear video with or without horizon leveling are available across even more video modes, along with some crazy high frame rates for slo-mo video. Notably, 5.3k can now be linear with hypersmooth at 60fps, and 2.7k can go as high as 240! Hypersmooth is still one of the most incredible features of this camera. It is truly amazing how well it stabilizes video. Handheld on a boat, on a bike, or even on a roller coaster, it is like the camera is on a gimbal while not needing any accessories. For stills, super photos (HDR and processed for more color and clarity) process very quickly with the new processor. Since this camera packs even more pixels on the sensor, low light performance is still not great. It’s just the limits of optical sensors. Outside, it works well enough, but you can tell this camera is really for video. The lens also has a new hydrophobic coating. It’s kind of uncanny how well water beads up and falls away from the lens. Combined with waterproofing to 33 ft, this camera is built for action right out of the box. Speaking of, I am happy GoPro decided to continue the change they made with the 9 and the Hero 10 ships with a case that is big enough to hold the camera and several accessories. This reduces trash waste and adds value to the package. There are also other nice things this camera can do – you can link it to your phone for live streaming, or to a PC to be a webcam. Media transfers over wireless are also much faster, which is a good thing considering how large the video files can get. I would recommend at least a 256gb micro sd card. Overall, this is the best GoPro to date, and if you are looking for a action camera that can record epic video of your adventures, this is one to consider for sure.

Ready to Go, Easy to Use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve only had a brief encounter with a GoPro before. We were sledding and my brother brought his GoPro along to capture the festivities (admittedly, I can’t remember which model, but it was definitely an older one). I thought it was a great idea, overall. However, the GoPro experience at the time was not what I was expecting. The camera didn’t have any screen to show what you were shooting and navigation through settings was not as intuitive as I thought it should be. The captured footage was great to see, but it was a bit shaky. Fast-forward to 2021 and the GoPro Hero 10. My whole perception of these cameras changed with this model. Navigation through the settings is really intuitive, easy, and fast. I was able to play around with the settings and get the camera ready in almost no-time just before our morning bike commute to drop our son off. A few quick adjustments and I was able to get the camera started before we headed out. Mounting the camera on the handlebar of my bike, with the shocks locked off, I thought that the footage would be really shaky. On my first try, it was, considering I didn’t have the stabilization turned on. During the return trip though, I tried out the standard setting, and what it a difference it made. We have to walk our bikes at a certain point to avoid the crowds of children, and this takes us over fairly chunky gravel. I was surprised to see how stable the video was even despite this terrain. The next day, I tried the new advanced stabilization and it was awesome. It was almost as if I had never hit any bumps during the ride. Being that this is my first GoPro, I can’t say much against previous models. But, even I had older models, I could see myself buying this version for the quick setups and using my older ones for wider shots or by-stander ones. I think anyone who uses action cameras should consider this, even if they have others already.

Easy to Use Action Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The GoPro Hero 10 Black comes shipped in a nice case. You get the camera, battery, charging cable, one mounting base and the mount. My main use for this camera will be video and photos while riding my gravel bike. First step was to pair the camera to the GoPro Quik app, which then gave me a message the software needed to be updated, After the update I ran through the settings and then it was time to test it out. My first trip out I got it set up on the Chesty mount to where I had a nice view out over my handlebars with the resolution set to 4K/60 frames and image stabilization set to high. Press the record button and off we go. My ride was just over 90 minutes covering just over 20 miles and the battery made it through just under an hour. Reviewing the video in the app afterwards I was impressed with how sharp and clear everything was. It was a slightly humid morning, but no issues with the lense fogging up. Leaving the parking lot required traversing several speed bumps an there were a couple spots on the ride with a washboard type surface. I was very happy with the image stabilization system. You could tell I hit the bumps, but the video didn’t get all jittery or blurred and stayed very clear. The mic picked up the wind noise of the ride, yet you could clearly hear me greeting other riders and joggers along the trail. Overall very happy with the camera and ease of use. I look forward to many more rides with it. Now just have to play with the different resolution settings to see where I get the most battery life with the best resolution and video stability.

State of the Art Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second GoPro I’ve owned. My first GoPro was the 7 Black, and it continues to be amazing. But when I got the opportunity to obtain the latest iteration, the GoPro 10, there was no way could I say no. The improvements in the GP10 are impressive. The 23 megapixel camera captures crisp photos, the 5.3k videos at 60fps is simply breathtaking (especially in slo-mo). Front and rear touch cameras are great for vlogging. To go over even half of the features of this camera would make this review as long as a novella, So I’ll stick to the points that are important to me. The front facing camera allows you to take away the guesswork of how your shot is framed, because you can see it live. With 5.3k video, I do my best to avoid getting too close to the camera. No need for everyone to see my every imperfection. But for nature or slo-motion shots, the quality is unreal. Easily, the most important feature for me is the image stabilization. Even though this isn’t my first GoPro, I continue to be amazed at how smooth the video plays. My primary use for the GoPro 10 is recording my bike rides, I attach my camera to my handlebars. My bike route has several areas where the path is crazy bumpy with tree roots and potholes. It boggles my mind how the recorded video shows ZERO incidents of rough rides. My brain rattles as I go over the rougher parts of my road, but the video doesn’t agree with my brain’s assessment of the rough terrain. The video stabilization is state of the art. Simply amazing… Opening the latch to access the battery and microSD is a bit of a pain. Until you master the technique to open he panel, you are going to break some fingernails. I get it, the GoPro is supposed to be waterproof (to 33ft), but does it have to be access-proof, too? My biggest gripe with the 10, is current owners of earlier iterations of GoPros have to buy new batteries and a new charger. The batteries in my 7 Black are worthless in the 10 (not sure about the 8 or 9 versions). Also, I’m not happy about the terrible instructions. New owners will be a bit confused, previous owners already know the runnings, so that won’t be too much of an issue. Having said all of that, the GoPro 10 is a mini-marvel. The price point is no joke $$$, but it’s a rugged and versatile piece hardware that provides a plethora of uses. Highly, highly recommended!

A black diamond of a camera!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first GoPro camera and I am blown away! The camera is extremely sophisticated with too many features to count (I am still learning about its advanced capabilities) but can be used right away by even a novice like me! The video options are comprehensive and the high definition HDR footage is really impressive. I particularly appreciate the stabilization and automatic horizon features which eliminate the jittery, vertigo inducing video that using a camera while in motion can produce. The GoPro app is comprehensive and fairly easy to navigate and provides you with remote access to the camera's capabilities. There are a few features that I am still trying to access but I'm guessing that it is the operator and not the device! A few quick notes - when you first fire up the app it will want to do a software update. The camera must be charged to at least 20% before that can happen. So follow the directions - charge first THEN start up the app. Also be aware that the basic kit does not include an SSD card. Refer to the documentation so that you get a memory card with sufficient performance specs to support the high performance video modes. Also, don't skimp on the size of the card - high def video produces some pretty big files. In summary - should you buy the GoPro Hero 10? Absolutely!

Believe the hype
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first GoPro and I am amazed. My recorded equipment consists of a Sony 4K handicam, a Note 20 ultra, and now the GoPro. After spending some time with the GoPro, I'll be reaching for it more often. The video and picture quality is top notch. Combined with a fast memory card, and I'm capturing fast moving imagery with little blur and no lag on writing to the card. Playing through the modes, there are plenty of modifiers to get the best frame rate and angle. Just like my most cell cams, you have your narrow, mid and long range lens. But here, there is no degradation of image from lense to lense, just clean pic/video. Night lapse is much better than I thought it would be. Actually, darker shooting is pretty good in general. The touch screen is accurate and smooth. From swipes to taps, all commands are flawlessly recognized. On a screen this small, I’d expect for some overlapping touches, but the font and sizing is perfect. Speaking on screens, both are great at representing what will eventually be on screen. Very clear, and the speaker is good enough to get a good feel for the audio. Battery is better than expected and I have been shooting just about all day without the need to stop and charge. I may buy more batteries, but for now, I’m not outshooting what’s already available. Finally, worth noting, is the “extras.” The voice command is great for self framing my shots and I have had no issues. But, it is in general, so if someone is yelling out a different command nearby, it will pick it up. Fairly self evident, but worth noting if you thought it may be tailored to your voice. Quickshot mode is great for on the fly moments. Touch and we are shooting. Simple feature, but I use it often to catch one-of-a-kind moments I would miss with powering up and waiting. The only flaw I have come across is not with the hardware, but with the app. On startup, you have to update the cam before using and I was determined to update via the app instead of downloaded through PC. I’m fairly advanced in technology, but I had quite a ride trying to sync up. After several reattempts, card changes and reboots, I finally got it to take. Tedious, but doable, but if I were less patient, this could be a major sore spot just to get shooting. App usage is also fairly slow in comparison to just off and shoot. I do, however, like that I can control it from my phone. The lag there was minimal, and I didn’t have much rouble connecting. I think after a few updates, functionality will improve, but for now, I’ll stick to the basics. So, in short, this camera is a fantastic little gem, and although it a new addition to my “arsenal,” I can easily see it getting much more usage due to its versatility and profile. Next step is accessorizing. Definitely recommend!

ESSENTIAL for Underwater Adventures
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this for the Galapagos trip of a lifetime. EVERYONE on board had one! I mean it...EVERYONE. It was awesome and easy to use, but even better, it's sort of like an iphone....the standard for underwater photography when traveling, so if you have any trouble on your adventure, about a dozen people will jump in to help! LOL. We had a GREAT time with this. Film and photos so much better than we expected.

Great product
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After years of watching go pro videos I finally have one of my own. This thing is awesome! I'm able to mount it on my bike helmet, it's super light and not very noticeable when riding. I plan on using this when skiing this winter as well. The form factor of this thing is great. The LCD screen is responsive and settings are very easy to use. So many cameras nowadays are so bogged down in endless menu settings. This one is straight forward and super easy to use. Be sure to get the proper micro SD card, as this will impact the quality of the video you intend to record. (Dif speeds/resolution/fps) Overall great product, haven't dropped it yet so I'm not sure how durable it is but based on what I see it seems like it would be pretty hard to break.

Love this camera!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome camera! This did spectacular on a mountaineering course in the Alaska Range, provided I didn't let it get too cold. Paired it with a case to make sure it stayed protected from the elements, which was totally worth it for the peace of mind it gave me while I was focused on learning and enjoying the landscape.

Every year a better upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.GoPro does it again with another success. The bottom line up front, it you've got a GoPro 9, this is more of a minimal upgrade, unless you are a serious enthusiast. GoPro 8 or older, than this is definitely worth the upgrade. I've been using GoPros since the 1st model and the company is always pushing the limits for what they can do. Incredible features and incredible video. The cameras can definitely take a beating. My only complaint is a lot of the lenses can scratch easily. The one that comes stock on it is pretty good, but any aftermarket ones can sometimes have problems.

Good product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera is great. The service at Best Buy was terrible. The "expert in cameras" who was supposed to help me knew nothing about GoPros and seemed bothered to be asked to help me. I had to do all the research online. I only bought it at Best Buy because I could get it quickly. Next time I'll stick with Amazon

Shut down after 15min
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The image quality is excellent but when shooting 5.3k 60fps it shuts down after 15 min. In 4k 60 fps, it can shoot a maximum of 30 minutes. battery life is not a problem because when the battery level is 50%, it turns off due to overheating.

Better than 11 Mini
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First i bought a GoPro 11 Mini, then i figured out that it couldn't take pictures, it only record, so i decided to return it and buy this (GoPro 10) and it was the best decision that i could take. The quality of the pictures and videos is awesome.

Newbie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first camera of this type. There is plenty of choices out there, but I'm glad I picked a Gopro. Easy to get started using, but a lot of creative tools for the more seasoned user. We chose the Gopro 10 black for the features and the price.

What the 9 should have been
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Faster frame rates, smoother UI with new chip, same form factor as 9. Still suffers from overheating issues around 15-20 minutes of recording on higher res or faster frame rates.
