Love this camera for the quality of the 27 megapixel pictures and the 5.3k video, the hyper smooth video really is hyper smooth! Out of the box you need to first insert the battery and charge the camera. Download the app while that's happening to get you ready to enjoy the link with your phone and camera. You can purchase additional cloud storage and sign in for additional features, but so far the camera and adobe are just fine for me. The battery door is a bit tricky but once you get it down, it's a breeze. Being a waterproof camera they need to keep things tight. The camera has great features that you can select right from the camera or the app. The vibrant front and rear screen make it a snap to be sure you are getting the perfect shot. Doing some driving with the camera I got some overheating after about 20 minutes or so. I tried getting it out of direct sunlight but it didn't really change it much. The battery life was short as well. I was able to time the exact usage but it seemed to not take much to kill the battery. This was a mix of video and photography. For me this camera is really nice, I will definitely have to get 2 or 3 more batteries but the heating issue will be a challenge. I have already found some heat sink options on some forums to assist with it and will give it a try so this camera can run track days with me and get some killer footage. It really is stunning just those two flaws mess it up it my eyes.

Gopro11 is a great idea hands free while making a video. But playing back the video on a computer was not very friendly and had to download a playback on my pc and that video was sketchy. Maybe next years GoPro hopefully you can workout these troubles

I bought this Go Pro to take with me on my trip to Greece/Israel. I didnt try it out before my trip, so the 1st day I was merely trying to figure it out. When I finally got the hang of it...it was amazing and then the battery was low and I had a major problem opening the battery door to change the battery out. At first I was not happy because for days I couldnt open the battery door. However, the viedos that I was able to capture were so amazing and crystal clear...it was just like being there...So now Im loving this action camera. it will go with me to all my adventures from now on. I give it 5 stars, because once you learn how to use it it works wonders.

Disappointed. New Sensor But Poor Quality Images

I've never owned a GoPro before but I have had some of their competitors. I've ultimately been disappointed with most of these 'action-cams' and unfortunately the HERO11 Black just continues that tradition. I had hoped that with the new sensor and expanded view, I might finally find THE camera that I can use for both work and travel. Despite all the great things about the Hero 11 (which I will commend it on), in the end, some major software hiccups and surprisingly poor video/photo quality make it hard for me to recommend at this time. I used to be a semi-pro photographer. I've sold images to publications in the past and have sold images in galleries. I know how to take a photo. Videography runs on the same principles photography, and you need to take care to ensure that you set your camera up to successfully record a good image/video. A camera such as the GoPro HERO11 *should* be one that does not need as much planning or set-up. It should be turn on and go! Unfortunately, I'm finding that I need to plan shots way more than I should and without the depth of settings (or at least ease of setting them) that I would have on a professional camera. I live in Southern California. There is a reason why the TV/Movie industry is out here. The diffuse light that our bright, blue sky puts out due to the scattering effect of the dust and ocean spray make it almost perfect to film in without needing a lot of extra lights. Despite this abundance of light, I seem to be unable to get the HERO11 to take a well-exposed shot that isn't pixelated or video that doesn't stutter. With the new sensor, GoPro claims that you get better image quality both with video and still images, as well as having better low-light ability. As you could read earlier, I do not agree with the GoPro team's assessment. The only thing worse than the video quality is the photo quality. Especially indoors. The bigger sensor and the new 8x7 format should have really goosed the ability of the GoPro HERO11 to be used indoors, which is where I wanted to use it for work. I help out my buddy with photos and videos of the properties he sells in the area. I'm always trying to improve the quality and usability of those images, especially since COVID put a premium on virtual tours. My buddy also specializes in homes for military families who may not be able to visit in person prior to moving here. I had really hoped that this would be the perfect camera for both my work with him and the travel and hiking my wife and I do. What does GoPro get right? A lot of things really. The build of the HERO11 is top notch. It feels solid in hand and not a toy. The quality of the screens on both the front and back of the camera a bright and beautiful (though not big enough to see problems right away). The amount of accessories out there for the HERO series of cameras is unmatched. I purchased the Volta battery grip as well as the head strap and QuickClip combo. Using the HERO11 with these accessories is super easy. The image stabilization features are also top-notch and better in many ways than the video created by cameras on gimbal systems in some ways. Seeing some of the promotional videos highlighting previous iterations of the HyperSmooth technology is one of the reasons I was so interested in the HERO11 when I saw it. It really does do a phenomenal job making the footage produced by the camera as smooth as butter. It can almost make you think you a seeing a camera on rails as you glide through and around a home. The software package that GoPro put into the Quik app is also phenomenal. You have an extremely versatile package for combining clips into cohesive and compelling videos. They give you all kinds of tools for editing, adding special effects, titling, and packaging the completed video. What it can't do it would seem is allow your phone to act as a remote terminal to monitor recording while filming. This is what I was REALLY hoping for since I will be doing most of my filming without the ability to see the back of the camera, due to the harness/headband or being on a tripod. I know that this is something that MOST GoPro users need to do at least on some occasions, or does everyone just leave this up to chance and just go with what they capture? That seems to invite a lot of need to have to reshoot clips, which I have already had to do several times. That does not make my job easier. Oh, I would also like to say that I'm not too happy that GoPro just got rid of their own PC/Mac software for editing. I know there are a ton of options out that that will support the HERO11 footage (I own quite a few), but I expect a camera company to make their camera completely useful and this requires some support on the backend. While the App for the iPhone is robust, a phone is NOT the best platform for editing videos. And while I'm at it I've also had some serious hiccups with the HERO11 where the camera will freeze and then shut down. The camera is not overheating and it has happened while recording, while plugged into my laptop, and while using the on-screen menu. I have fully updated the camera to the latest firmware edition so I wouldn't think I would be having these issues. Perhaps many of my issues can be resolved with software updates(including the image quality), but right now, the HERO11 might as well just be a paperweight to me. I'm going to hold on to the camera in hopes that GoPro either addresses these issues, or I figure out what I can do to make it produce better images (though I'm not sure what else I can do).

GoPro has become the expected name in action cameras for good reason. The cameras tend to do everything better than everyone else, have the best support and the most accessories. To start, the GoPro Hero 11 Black comes packaged in brown paper around a canvas/nylon carry semi-hardcase, which I find to be very cool, and reminiscent of the previous generations. With all of these companies working towards renewable packaging, this is probably one of the best examples, simple paper with a carry case that is reusable by the customer rather than a bunch of single-use plastics. It may cost SLIGHTLY more than single use plastic, but honestly, in the way many of these companies create this stuff in volume, it's probably not so dramatic and it cuts down on the footprint of items like this. Plus, it just adds to the cool factor. In setup, it's very straightforward, there's a little door in the side that houses the battery and a spot for an SD card. The camera is waterproof to 10 meters, but I haven't taken the time to test that yet (fundamentally I know things like this and my phone have an amount of water resistance, but there's still something about me and tossing electronics in the water, I suppose someday I'll get over it). The Hero 11 Black carries the same form factor as the previous generations, so it is easy to swap in mods and accessories from the previous gens without much concern. Of most note is the larger sensor in the camera to give it higher quality, larger images at higher resolution. The front facing screen is nice for keeping track of what the camera is recording when it is facing you. I have to say though, the image quality is outstanding. The new sensor is superb, the aspect ratio gives an immense amount of control over the video, particularly if you need to crop or change things based on certain types of content creation. There's so much room to play with this here. I really cant say enough about this. In low light conditions, I still find the image to be quite good, though definitely not on the level of an appropriately lit image. Really it's hard to find anything negative to say. There's an improvement with this camera over the 10, it's noticeable, and if you don't already own the 10, it's a worthy upgrade over most previous cameras in the line. I easily recommend this to anyone in the market for an action camera.

This is a great little camera! It's my first GoPro, and I'm generally quite impressed. Two downsides-- battery life is pretty limited and it gets really hot and shuts down occasionally. Not the best for filming in hot conditons or for long times (~30 min or more).

Over the years I've had different types and brands of "action cameras". All of them had their own styles, functions and benefits.I always went for the ones with smaller stealthier look so you didn't look like you were carrying a lunchbox or a camcorder of the 80's haha and we all know how big those were. Advancements in technology have gotten these cameras downsized so small and yet they still manage to pack more features and better internals and externals than the much larger ones years ago. Instead of "viewfinders" now they have fully integrated dual full color digital LCD screens. One smaller one on the front and a wider touchscreen version on the back with all of the details right there on the screen with bright clear color icons as well. The features on this thing are crazy! 3 Viewing fields, 16:9, 4:3, and now 8:7. You've got the option of 4k or 5.3k, 60, 30, or 24 frames per second. The newer 8:7 ratio at 5.3k now gives us 24.7 million!! pixels, compared to the older 5.3k at 16:9 ratio which was a mere 15.8 million pixels. You've got ProTune options that allow you to adjust Bit rate, shutter speed, white balance, your iso ratio, and your exposure value. And now a 10 bit capability versus the 8 bit they used to have which was roughly 16 million and now 10 giving you roughly 1 billioooon megapixels (Dr. Evil in Austin Powers voice) haha which gives you a real clarity upgrade and richness in color. The lens options they give you are Linear + Horizon Lock (full 360 degree rotation) which in my opinion was the coolest because you could basically twist the camera all the way around upside down but the video stayed straight forward the entire time upside down or right side up, Linear 19-39mm, Wide 16-34mm, Superview 16mm, and Hyperview 12mm. Another really cool option is night mode! You can really get some trick shots that you normally see only done with DSLR's. One mode is Star Trails which if you set your camera outside aimed up for a while its a time lapsed shot that captures the stars moving but gives the effect that you see when you're watching Star Wars and about to jump into hyperspace where they all become lines instead of stars. The next one is Vehicle Lights, again time lapsed shots of cars or traffic passing by giving you a constant stream of light which makes for some awesome shots. Then there is Light Painting where you set the camera out and you can take any light source in your hand and make designs in the air or even air write your name or make shapes and the camera time lapse gives you that full shape or design. I've done this with DSLR's which you have a lot more settings to deal with to get this right so being able to do these at the touch of a button here makes me love this little camera even more. Everything included is the HERO11 Black camera itself , a nice hard shelled carrying case that's big enough for all of the included accessories and camera itself, Enduro Rechargeable Battery, curved adhesive mounts, mounting buckle + thumb screw, USB type C cable and free SD card. I would definitely recommend this to others!

Wish I got a GoPro Sooner

This is my first GoPro. I’ve always wanted to get one for skiing and other winter sports that I do. So far I’ve really used for pretty low level stuff since it’s the summer right now, but I’ve been very impressed so far. Set up was pretty easy. I had a few glitchy things getting the app to set up right, but I got those kinks worked out pretty quickly. I did have a firmware update which took some time, but after that and I was up and going. For my initial testing I stole the high speed microSD card from my dashcam. I’m glad I did, because while the card worked fine for my testing, I saw how fast it filled up. I’m going to spend a little bit more and get a much bigger card for my GoPro and leave the smaller one in my dashcam. The picture quality is really amazing. I thought some of the newer phones could take good videos, but they don’t hold a candle to something dedicated like this. My kids experimented with videos of them riding their electric scooters around the neighborhood and I’m glad it has a stability function. Kids are kids and its fun to see what they got up to, but without the stability function I’m sure the videos would have been unwatchable. My biggest complaint is that it didn’t come with a more versatile mount, harness, selfie stick, etc. The GoPro is best when using it while doing something, and not having a better way to hold it while you’re having fun really was a drawback. I know that the cool harnesses and accessories can get really specific for your preference and so it makes sense that people don’t want the price increased even more for a mount they won’t use, but something a little better than what comes with it would be nice. It comes with charging cables, but not the power supply. In the past that has really annoyed me with various electronics, but now days I have a lot of chargers better than what would have been included so I’m not as picky on this anymore. In looking at accessories, it looks like its pretty compatible with existing mods and accessories which is really nice since that opens up my options a lot as I start looking at what accessories I want to get next. It appears like all the Hero10 stuff will work with the Hero11. I noticed I bumped the controls a lot and messed up a bunch of videos, but I think that’s mostly user error, screen lock should help with that. I also like that the unit is nice and small, but it means that you have a lot of symbols that you need to learn to really do things quickly. Maybe they’re pretty standard for someone that does a lot of videography or photography, but I’m still learning a lot of them. It will take a while, but it’s a pretty acceptable compromise to get a smaller camera with all these features. So far I’ve just been playing, but I can’t wait until the winter season when I can use it in a bit more of an exciting way.

More an Incremental Improvement over the 10

The GoPro Hero 11 in Black is the latest in the GoPro Hero line up of action cameras. Unboxing it, you get a sleek square shaped block that's immediately recognizeable as different by the blue-ish 11 painted on the side instead of a 10. Yes, it's the same, but it's that same tried and true form factor which I've gotten accustomed to over the past seven years when I got my first. The 11 does squeeze in some improvements. An improvement to 27MP. Some additional modes. I think probably one of the more exciting ones is the ability to film once but export to the aspect ratio that you want. This paradoxically lets you reduce the number of camera modes you swap between (despite the increase in said modes) as the camera and software does a lot more work for you. The image quality is great. Honestly, I didn't see much improvement from the 10 except in low light video. But we are approaching the time where image quality can stay stable and instead, we care about other things. Like image stabilization or horizon lock. For me who has recently started doing a lot of EUC riding, horizon lock is nice as my shots regularly have the FOV of the camera move around. It's nice that I don't have to worry too much about keeping things upright while filming without a gimbal arm. The camera comes with the "Enduro" extended battery. You'll need it. Battery life sucks recording anything above full HD to the point where I have to plan out what shots I'd want to get at 4K+ when going on a ride because the camera battery will not last long enough for a 2 hour ride. Unfortunately, this is not an area that has improved much with GoPro. Keeping the same shape/size (not getting bigger) and packing in more functionality comes with a price. Yes, dollars, but also in battery life. So having additional batteries continues to be a must. One disappointment I've had is shooting where I can film myself and what's in front of me - yes 360. Now, often in post, you only care about one view at any given time so if you know what you want in the moment, you cna turn the camera to point the correct way. The problem though, especially when on a "selfie" stick facing back towards me, is getting not only me in the FOV but the environment around me. The 11 has Hyperview which really gives you additional vertical framing compressed in the 16:9 format. This is an improvement on top of the decent job GoPro has done with this in the past and likely where the bigger sensor really shines. That said, the audio recorded by the camera still struggles to meet the "good" rating. It's still a bit harsh, especially when wind is present or muted - when things are quiet. Not a listen to the birds camera yet. Two other nice to haves are webcam mode and live streaming. To be fair, I didn't use the webcam mode much beyond verifying that it works. Plug in the USB cable and you're good to go. The cable can also keep it powered so you're not consuming a battery for this purpose. Still annoying - you cannot record the video to the camera while in webcam mode. As it is, I'm now mostly using a spare phone as a webcam. I think given I'm reaching the point where I have an action cam on me most days, if only to record my daily commute, I may start to use it as a webcam. The webcam image is average - definitely not taking full advantage of the GoPro's sensor and iffy that it does better lighting. Live streaming is another mixed bag - yes it works, but you're limited in video resolution and need to go through a lot on the app to setup the limited streaming options. You're probably better off with the media mod but even then has compromises. Accessing the USB port is behind a door that hides the micro SD card slot, battery, and USB-C connector. Note, that door can be removed completely so be careful to not accidentally pop it off and fall behind a hard to move couch. A cool touch with the standard camera is the built-in mount. So, the camera is good to go to be mounted on a lot of your existing GoPro mounts without needing to put the camera into a separate case or housing. And what's even cooler, it folds out of the way when not in use. My overall review is a 4. This is a decent improvement as far as action camming goes but the additional features for non-action cam use don't seem to provide enough value that you'd be willing to dispense with your current camera and have the GoPro pull double duty.

I was excited to try out this GoPro to film outdoor sporting events thinking it could give the team(s) a chance to rewatch games and practices. I was disappointed with the photo quality and view - I had trouble capturing up to half a soccer field on screen and being able to see the players clear enough. It likely works better with closure images and videos 50 feet or less away. I also had difficultly with the camera and app setup as well as downloading photos and videos. The customer service was helpful to get the app setup for me; that is one plus. The camera comes with the following in the box: USB-C cord (cord only no power block) Camera Rechargeable Battery Setup Instructions Padded Carrying Case You will need to provide a compatible micro-sd card like sandisk or similar - make sure to check compatibility as not all work (the instructions list which types will work) I was able to setup the camera and app initially. You will need to install the battery, and sd card, then the Quik app on your phone or mobile device to complete the installation. Before use you will need to have the camera plugged in to charge and run the update (after app installation on phone). The updates did not take long, 5-10 minutes or so. I ran a couple quick test photos & videos to see the range and it worked fine. There are several camera zoom/angle options from reg to super wide as well as video settings for higher to lower quality for file size flexibility. I recorded several 5-20 minute game videos and the battery ran out around 1 hour of use. When I tried to retrieve the videos my app wouldn't work and required a factory restart. I did not want to lose the videos I shot so GoPro provided me with a replacement sd card to do the restart. I was able to reconnect the camera to my phone but ran into issues downloading the videos due to file size. My 64GB iphone was not able to download more all three videos at once due to the size, and I have yet to be able to download completely and save to my Drive to view on a laptop, tablet or larger screen. The GoPro should work with either IOS or Android devices however I only tried with my iPhone. I would have tried it with my iPad instead but it requires location services enabled to setup and a device w/ data. You can use the camera stand alone without your mobile device but the functions are limited. This camera appears okay The video quality is ok but not good for long range. The setup and connection was not that great The file transfer is inconvenient due to size. it may be easier if you pull the sd card and download directly but I did not try this. I would not recommend this device due to the difficulties.
