I got this with the accessory bundle. There were so many parts and pieces, with super vague to no instructions. I tried putting some pieces together and gave up. I didn't think it would be a jigsaw puzzle. Anyway....just a waste of $400.

First the obvious problems. No removable battery - right there makes this a no brainer for most people I know to skip. Had I realized this when I selected it, I would've passed on testing this. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had to pull a battery from their go pro to get it unfrozen. And no replaceable battery means limited life. I've had batteries go bad. Pull it and get another with a normal go pro. With this one? You're out of luck. And if you're out there doing hours of action, this just won't cut it. I did see something about a new USB pass through door that would allow you to attach a power bank to it to extend the recording time, but that really negates the whole point of having a mini Go Pro, if you're going to have to have a big battery bank duct taped to your helmet as well or something. Another issue that will make this a pass for many die hard go pro users - the lack of the screens. I really liked being able to quickly change things, go to preset settings for different things. The whole point for me of a go pro is to be instantly ready to just shoot. Turn it on, pick mode and settings, and you're off. This one, having to open the app on the phone or slowly work through the tiny settings window options using two buttons? That just adds time, complexity, and frustration to the mix. The smaller size isn't even much of a difference so it's also not a compelling reason. Weight is only slightly less. If it was half as big it would be something to brag about, but they did not shrink this down that much. Now, the lack of the rear screen does give this a new mount option, so this WILL give people some better ways to attach it to things for those POV videos. For things like skateboards and surfboards, this will let you get lower, right on the board, for an even more extreme view. Photos unfortunately are gone the way of the dodo. I love my other Go Pro cameras for quick photos. Now you'll have to use the app to snag a capture from a video to get a photo out of this. Now as far as videos go, this has the identical specs to the full sized Hero 11, so there is no loss of resolution or quality. And videos really do look great. Even something simple, holding in my hand, the image stabilizing is outstanding. I held it in my hand, walking around the house, forearm parallel to the ground as I moved with this pointing straight in front of me. There was almost no camera movement at all other than forwards. No bobbing, no shaking, just a very smooth flow. I mounted it on my go pro mount on my Vespa, a GTS 300. And the picture and stability again was every bit as good as I would expect. Much better than my Go Pro Max that's 3 years old that, even in "Hero" mode, didn't do as well as its full blown counterpart 3 years ago. Unboxing was simple. Really not much here to deal with. The case I guess is OK but it's bulky and has a lot of wasted space in it. I have a backpack for my Mavic 3 drone that also has an area for my Go Pro cams, so this will be kept there instead. I'm going to guess that will be the case for more people than not, they'll use some other more efficient way to store this for travel. App - First off was connecting it to the go pro - no different than my other go pros. It instantly found a firmware update. Now, I had seen someone's review prior to this that mentioned how most of the modes weren't even options on the Mini that were available on the full sized Hero 11. I'm guessing their review was a bit premature, since this update specified some of the things they complained about. Here is what this update in December of 2022 added as new features: includes all video capture modes, digital lenses, and settings includes timewarp, time lapse video, night lapse video, and new night effects features Includes easy and pro controls hypersmoooth 5.0 video stabilization with in camera horizon lock and autoboost auto upload to cloud feature provided adds voice control commands to camera adds auto off provides live streaming The camera also has 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz support. Now in actual use without the app, you can get at some of the settings via the two buttons on the camera, one to cycle through settings, the other to select that setting and change it. This is all displayed in the teeny tiny window on top. It's not smooth by any means. Easier to use the phone, but also annoying since that is just extra steps and time wasted. I found that I really missed being able to swipe around and do things on the LCD panel on the back of my Go Pro Max... I keep coming back to the fact that this has no photo mode. That is something I would miss if this were my only Go Pro. Yes, you can do a video and pull a frame from the video to have a photo. But the full sized 11 has burst photo mode and night photo mode. I love photo mode for some things, so again, this would not be the model for me. Mini also doesn't have a scheduled capture for people who like to do celestial things without having to stay awake. Also doesn't have duration capture or hindsight mode. While it can do live streaming, it cannot function as a webcam. All the accessories like microphones won't work with the mini, it doesn't have the option for a microphone to USB. The voice control was OK, but without photo mode, there would be, for me, not much use for it other than to simply start or stop recording. Voice mode is handy for quickly changing modes. Not really an issue with this one lacking photo capability. Right now the full sized Hero is on sale and the EXACT SAME PRICE as this. Personally, I'd go with the full sized one. But I'm not in California doing dozens of sports in gorgeous weather. For such people, I can easily see how this would be a great ADDITIONAL Go Pro for their hardware collection. There are many ways this is perfect for some situations. But in my use, those situations are the random rare thing, not the norm. If I was only going to have one, I'd be using the full featured full sized one so I can record longer than just what the only battery I can use would allow by swapping additional batteries as needed.

My first impression is that it was well packaged. The case that comes with it is sturdy. Inside there is this styrofoam-like material to keep everything contained inside the case. I am not sure if I meant to keep it. It does say recycle on the styrofoam. The purpose of the styrofoam might be to keep it from moving before you open it. It sits somewhat flush. Inside, you get a guide that shows you how to get connected, a 1-foot long USB C cable, a bracket, a screw to secure that bracket, and a mount with 3m adhesive. I turned it on and then realized there was a tiny screen on the top. It delivers data horizontally. It takes a while to read the whole sentence. You'll probably only use it to select the language as English. It also shows how much time you have left to record. During this setup, it asked for a memory card. I thought I had a compatible one, but it would not insert. I looked for 30 seconds to find one, and then it let out this loud beep. It actually kind of frightened me the first time it happened. I went to the store to get a memory card. Once I got the memory card I connected the GoPro through the Quik app. It is simple to pair, and the connection is superb. I have had no issues disconnecting or trouble connecting. What I found surprising is it can connect even when the GoPro is turned off. The first thing I did in the software was turn off the beep. It got annoying after a while. Even though it is set to medium volume by default, it is still quite loud. I tried the preview feature to see what the camera sees. It takes at least 10 seconds to connect. I don't believe anyone would use it to line up a quick shot. At this point, you would've been better off guessing where it is focused. In due time, however, I am sure I will get an idea of where it's focused. I may have to opt for a GoPro with a screen next time. The last quirk I have with the application is the scrollbar for zoom. There is a scrollbar to adjust how much of a fishbowl look you want. I have tiny fingers compared to other guys. I have a hard trying to touch it. I had the preview open and titled my GoPro 90 degrees. To my satisfaction, it changed the recording orientation immediately. This will come in handy for people who live stream or make TikTok videos for phones. It also gets too warm, to the point, it is almost uncomfortable to hold. I do not see myself in the future just using this alone. If you plan to record vlogs with it you will need a tripod or a gorilla pod. Now I have not recorded much with it. However, from what I have noticed the battery gets depleted quickly. I recorded a 5-minute video and lost 9% battery. I started with 64% and ended at 55%. For its size, I suppose it makes sense to lose that much battery. So overall, I think it is a great product. The quality is stunning. It does a great job in dark conditions. It is beginner friendly. That beep almost took this product to a 4-star... I found it that annoying. Well done GoPro.

The GoPro HERO11 Mini is an amazing product for recording high quality video that doesn't sacrifice much from the full size HERO 11 in exchange for more flexibility in where it can be used, like with drones. Let's start with a couple obvious differences from full size GoPros. The HERO 11 Mini does not have a front or rear view screen. The rear appears to more of a heat sink and there is also a rear mounting bracket with fingers that allow for a lower profile. Obviously, there are no touch screen controls which means the unit is controlled by 2 buttons (power, record) and via the GoPro Quik app. There is a small LCD screen up top that shows vital information. The other difference is that there is no removeable battery for battery swaps during long sessions. Instead, the unit must be charged via USB-C. So if you typically use a GoPro for long amounts of time it will make having a good portable power bank a necessity. Other than the removal of view screens and the lack of a removeable battery, the HERO11 Mini seems to perform just the same as the larger GoPros. It films natively with a 8:7 ratio so it allows the user to actually crop if converting to other ratios like 16:9. I initially wondered about how to know if I was pointing the lens at what I wanted to capture with no view screen, but I soon came to realize that I just needed to point it in the general direction of the subject. The unit captures a large area so it ends up being very simple to use. And I can always crop if I need to in post-production. It can capture up to 5.3K at 60 fps or 4K at 120 fps. The mic captured sound very well, just as well as full size GoPros. There are neat field of view options for the HERO11 Mini, one of which is Hyperview which creates a wide-field view. There is also image smoothing/stabilization as well as a feature to keep the image locked on the horizon. The unit is waterproof to a reasonable depth and I can say that it does survive plenty of drops, as you would expect from GoPro. I loved that the HERO11 Mini was easy to mount to my drone and I think users will find all kinds of creative places to use this. I can understand that some people really need the view screens and the touch controls that come along with those. I will say that I used the LCD screen and 2 physical buttons to quickly setup anything I needed, but the GoPro Quik app can also let you dive as deep as you want into customization of the field of view options and many other features. I would recommend this to anyone, and would make an amazing holiday gift for anyone teenage and up.

I love using this GoPro once I picked up needed accessories for it. This is a big reason why I am giving it 3 stars. I am a big fan of getting something and it comes with everything needed. This is not the case with this. It comes with a helmet adaptor and that was it. It is also attached to the helmet with a tape so once you place that, you can't remove it to use elsewhere. So, unless you have a helmet you are going to use this with, you will need to buy additional mount brackets. You will also need a SD card that is compatible with this. I would rather pay a little more and have this come with a SD card, as well as a more universal mount. maybe a provided head strap with a mount that be used with a helmet or without or include at least 2 mounts, one for a helmet like it does but then another for those who want to use it not with a helmet. The software app. I am hoping that they can update this but if not then maybe something I would hope they fix. But you can preview the video, however, once you start to actually record video, then you no longer can see the preview. I would like to make sure that I continue to capture what I want and see how it is looking while I am recording. This also has a built-in internal battery. My gripe is that I get about an hour of battery. This depends on how you want the quality. I would like to be able to have a backup battery that I can swap if needed. I would have also liked to be able to plug this in and use it like a webcam. The quality is great and love the wide angle it provides. So, it would have made a great webcam. Things that I do love with this though. First the size. I do love the size of this. Small and lightweight makes it hardly noticeable when using. Video quality is great. Even on low settings to save power, it's not too bad. But being able to set to 4k or even 5k if you want, that just makes the video look great. And having the extra wide angle on it. You get a nice capture of surroundings. The heat sink on the back can get hot, but the camera itself does not so that seems to help it out. The 2 mounting spots with this is nice to have you that extra angle to mount if you need it. I like that you can go live with this as well. At the moment, maybe just my phone, but I was only able to go live with twitch. Overall, I am happy to get this. I would like to see at least a couple things that I mentioned, the app being able to preview even when recording, and maybe a more universal mounting option.
