The Hero11 Mini Black is the newest iteration of GoPro's ultra-portable camcorders and continues the company's reputation for excellent video quality with a comprehensive suite of options. However, you need to understand where it fits vis-a-vis the non-mini variants. Specifically, this product is optimized for action video enthusiasts and so some features have been sacrificed. For example, you cannot directly take snapshots (still pictures) with this model. The video resolution and frame-rate do provide sufficient quality for you to extract still images from the video stream but some folks are likely to find that to be an inconvenience. Likewise, there is no functioning 3.5mm audio jack to support external microphones. GoPro claims they have incorporated 3 internal microphones but I found the audio quality to be lacking. There is also no screen, only a small LCD status display. All of these things result in a unit that is lighter, smaller and cheaper, but can also be limiting. On a positive note - I really like the fact that they worked on the water-proof access door so that you can actually open it without breaking off your fingernails! There are also mounting spots on both the bottom and sides and the unit ships with a couple of connectors for fastening options. The unboxing and setup was pretty good. Once again GoPro has provided a very nice carrying case. Like almost all new products today there is no charging brick - just a USB-A to USB-C cable. The app downloaded and installed without any problems on my Android phone. Startup was typical - there were a few hiccups until everything settled down with my WiFi and Bluetooth connections. The initial charging cycle seemed to take longer than I expected and it is difficult to determine the charge level through the LCD screen. The app simply said "charging" without showing me progress but ultimately it does seem to work. Step 1 was a firmware update that completed without any issues. The app is quite comprehensive and I am still finding new features. Some are quite useful while others (such as voice control) seem a bit gimicky. If you are looking for a a single-button action camera that is small, rugged and provides excellent video in multiple formats, then you need to give the Hero11 Mini Black a serious look. If you are looking at the successor to the GoPro full-function line then you might need to look at the full Hero11.

The Hero 11 is the perfect compromise of an action camera that packs the punch and technology but eliminates the 'nice to haves' of an action cam. As someone who owns the Full Hero 11 and the Mini I wanted to truly put them side by side to see what the camera differences are, and to be honest... other than features and functionality... there aren't any. The hardware inside the camera still provides the same quality settings and features as the Hero 11 minus a few nice to haves like a webcam mode. The 8:7 Aspect Ratio for recording is huge in this day and age where both Horizontal and Vertical video prevail in the social media spaces. Provided you have a bit of background in editing you can realize the power of editing the same video and just changing the aspect crop to go from 3840x2160 to a 1920x1080 to a 1:1 1080x1080 square. Your flexibility is ENDLESS when it comes to content creation. The heatsink design on the back is certainly understandable and I haven't run into it burning me or causing me any concern of heat dissipation. The dual mount of chest vs standard go pro is smart and useful. Lastly there is no external battery so you have to charge the entire unit to keep it powered vs swappable batteries. Simply stated if you want to save 100 bucks and are willing to give up a touchscreen, webcam mode, and a few other nice to haves, this is a no brainer.

I have owned a few GoPro cameras and all models are pretty cool and each come with serious intuitive design and all are easy to set up and use. This model is no different and it is a bit larger than most and a bit more top heavy but it packs a punch and provides serious power and imaging and it is one of the better models I have seen. It is one of the most tech friendly cameras out there and syncs with the GoPro app quite nicely. It is also one of the easiest to set up and download movies from. I think it worked well when I added it to the front of my bike and also it worked great when I added it to a helmet when I went skiing. Its user friendly nature and the intuitive app make GoPro of course the leader in this space and make filming videos fun and easy and even my kids like using this camera and playing around with all its features. The add ons are inexpensive and easy to add and enhance the capability of the camera quite nicely. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an action camera.

I've wanted a GoPro for a long time. I've always wanted to have one for when I ride my Harley. The HERO11 Mini is the perfect size. It's very compact and with the included mount, fits perfectly on my helmet. After charging the camera and downloading the GoPro Quik app, I went for a short 20 minute ride. The conditions weren't ideal as it was overcast and misting. I wasn't expecting a lot and I've always worried about the wind noise with the camera on my helmet, facing the wind. After getting back home and going through the GoPro Quik app, I found the video of my ride ready to watch. It also made a short edited video of the ride which was 1:48 seconds. It just found highlights of the ride and stitched them together automatically. I didn't have to do anything. You can also edit your videos yourself if you want to. The app can automatically upload your videos to the cloud with their subscription service. I was amazed at the complete lack of wind noise. Trying the camera for the first time, I made sure to turn my head a lot during the ride to not only check the wind noise at different angles, but also to see how smooth the video would be. At 60 mph, straight on, there was virtually no wind noise. Only after I turned my head past roughly 20 degrees did you get the wind noise. As far as the smoothness, it can't be beat. For being on a Harley that is vibrating like crazy, plus my head movements and being jostled around in the wind, the video couldn't be any smoother. When I rode over the curb at the driveway the video was perfectly smooth. It looked like I just floated over it even though it is a sharp bump. I wear the smallest and lightest helmet (half helmet) and didn't notice any weight difference with the camera mounted. You could wear it for hours without getting fatigued. The video quality is exceptional. You can record up to 5k video, however, I set mine to 4k | 120 | wide. I'm using a 128GB SD card and after the 20:48 video it shows I still have 3.5 hours of space left on the card. Honestly, a 64GB card would be plenty. You want to offload your videos often anyway to prevent losing data if anything ever happens to the card. Shooting options include: Standard (normal video), TimeWarp (time lapse with HyperSmooth), Star Trails (for capturing star movement), Light Painting (paint a picture with a flashlight), Vehicle Lights (captures headlight/taillight trails from cars with a time lapse), Time Lapse, and Night Lapse. I haven't tried anything other than standard video yet as it has been raining here since I got the camera. I'm definitely looking forward to star trails and night lapse though. Being a "mini" it doesn't have a large screen. There is only a small screen on the top to navigate the menus. With only two buttons, it is very simple to use. The buttons are large enough to be used easily with gloves on. A perk for me since I always ride with gloves on. One button goes to the next menu selection and the other is basically the "OK" button. The small screen is bright enough to be seen in daylight. However, I would just recommend using the app to adjust settings and make any changes. I do like the fact that I can just press the record button and it turns on and starts recording immediately, which is great if I'm already wearing the helmet and have my phone in my inside jacket pocket. Another perk is the back mount option, which is what I use to keep the camera low on my helmet. One downside is that it has a permanent battery. Not having a removable battery means that you have to stop using it and charge it before you can keep recording video. Whereas you could just quickly swap a removable battery and keep filming. Also, once the battery has reached the end of its lifespan, the camera is done. I've seen a lot of people complaining of overheating (as GoPros often do). I haven't experienced it, however, with it exposed to 60 mph wind in 40 degree weather, I don't imagine that it will. 100 degree summers in Georgia may prove otherwise. Overall, I absolutely love the GoPro HERO11 Mini. It's exactly what I was looking for and perfect for the job.

Camera works well but it does heat up. The app needed to download, and edit doesn't always work on the first few tries.

Small and light compared to the full size Gopro. Use it for FPV and ots great. Dynamic contrast is amazing and the 5.6k resolution is great for social media and full 16:9 videos. Colors a crisp and punchy.

The GoPro Hero 11 mini has a lot of controversy for being smaller and less efficient. However, I'd say the opposite opinion is more factual. I use this go pro for drone photography and videography and its great.

Although I love the form factor seems you like it can take a beating.

It overheats if left connected to power or not connected on a hot day. I would avoid it unless you are only going to use it for short periods and are going to keep it cool.

Had mine for a day. Used it once, then went to charge it overnight. Didn't charge. Well, it wanted to. The battery icon shows that it is charging, but it will not charge past 1%. I tried multiple different outlets, adapters, battery packs/powerbanks, hard resetting, factory resetting, everything I could think of. Still will not charge. After doing some online research, Apparently it is a common problem. A VERY common problem with no fix other than contacting support and hoping they send you a replacement unit. Which will still fail pretty darn quickly according to people who have had to exchange their units. I highly recommend not purchasing this product and going with a different brand.

Only because zero stars are not an option. This was defective out of the box and GoPro Customer Support is horrific. Now 5 chat sessions to troubleshoot including requiring that a buy a second SD card and then take pictures. It's a terrible customer service product and if it wasn't beyond the 30 days, I would just return to Best Buy and request a full refund. If the product works, may be Ok but do not recommend in case you have a problem. This is truly some of the worst Customer Service (GoPro, not Best Buy) I have ever encountered.

Battery overheated a couple of times. after a month of use, it stopped charging and will not turn on. Since I didnt ue=se it for a couple of months, Go Pro denied any warranty. Threw it in the garbage.

I gave this a 2 star while this product was working it was amazing, however it stopped charging within 2 weeks. We had to return it. After returning this we were not able to get another one. They were backed ordered. This was a gift for my sons 13th birthday.

My GoPro stopped working and BestBuy was awesome getting me a new one within a week thanks to the BestBuy insurance.
