Bettery Batter and More Formats
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using the GoPro Hero 12 black for two purposes. First as an action cam when biking and second as a camera for recording YouTube shorts. It works perfectly for these two purposes. It lacks GPS features of previous models, but this gives it almost double the battery life. This has been great for longer rides. The new format with a 9:16 vertical capture mode is perfect for YouTube shorts, or TikTok as well. It also supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) in 5.3K and 4K modes. This gives some amazing contrast to videos and photos. This really makes footage look very professional. This creator edition comes with a Media Mod accessory, which is awesome for audio. It has a directional mic and helps to reduce unwanted sounds. It also adds more protection by making the camera a bit more rugged. It also includes the Volta accessory. The Volta adds additional battery life, which is great. It also has buttons so that you can operate it one handed. It can also be used as a remote for the camera. I’ve also used it as a tripod. The Volta is a must have accessory. The GoPro is the best action camera out there, and these new features make it even more versatile. Bundled with the Volta, this is a perfect kit.

A great kit for first time GoPro-ers!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first venture into the GoPro world and I am glad I went in with the Hero12 Creator Edition. However, I am probably not going to use every single accessory included but I am glad they did. I am no way a creator but I wanted a GoPro to record my daughters high school volleyball games. The packaging is perfect. I just wished the case actual had dedicated spots for the accessories rather than just cardboard to tease how it should look. You take out all the part and you have all the parts moving and possibly damaging the other stuff you would use, not to mention your GoPro lense. I do like the addtion of both the media mod and the option of just using the other pass through door, which in my case, use a lot when using the volta. I do like how the volta has batteries and controls to to add value and functionality to the volta/mini tripod setup. However, in my case, I could not use it just as it is, but that is ok! The bottom of the volta has a tripod mounting threads to mount on a tripod! This was awesome! I really loved that was thought out and I could use my tripod to mount this high enough in front of me where ever I am sitting to get a decent shot. With the addition of the built in batteries in the volta, you do not have to worry about batteries really, unless you are recording at 4k at 120 FPS all the time, which you don't really need to do. However, your personal use may vary. I was able to use a TB card on it and it can record hours on 2.7K at 120FPS. Because this is my first GoPro, I did run into overheating issues when just mounting on a tripod, however, I was running it on 4k and 60FPS, so in about 10 minutes of recording, it just shut down from overheating. Since then I found the settings that I can tweak to keep it from overheating. Again, your use may vary, but if recording on a tripod with no air flow from the outdoors, you will run into overheating issues. You will just need to figure what works for you, which I have as well. I have heard that the GPS is no longer on these, which I am ok with because I am not using the Hero12 in that way or even vloging at this point. I just wished there was some sort of way cool it down, which I think I have found. The issue is just the sound. So we'll see if the solution I found will work. Bottom line, this is a powerhouse kit for a first timer like me and I really enjoy using it and found it pretty intuitive to use. You just have to play around with the settings and once you have good lighting, your videos will look great. I did opt in for the yearly subscription to upload to the cloud directly from your SD card once your designated wifi is connected, which is also a great feature. Also the there is no size limit on the upload, how great is that! So far, that is the only service I know that offers this and is very seemless in the app.

A Game Changer - Hypersmooth 6 Video Stabilization
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently tested out the GoPro HERO 12 Black Creator Edition, and I must say, it left me thoroughly impressed. As a long-time enthusiast of professional cameras, I've seen the evolution of GoPro's lineup, and the HERO 12 Black is undoubtedly a game-changer. Upon opening the box, I was greeted by a well-organized box with well-written instructions on updating the firmware. I used an Android device to download the GoPro Quik application; the update process went flawlessly. I did not enjoy the two short USC-C cables and the lack of instructions on how to use the GoPro camera or the GoPro Volta. I could not wait to test the new HDR (High Dynamic Range) video and photo capabilities; the results were outstanding. While I was capturing fast-paced action scenes during my bike ride, the camera consistently produced high-quality footage. Just to let you know, my old microSD card did not meet the recommended specifications for this camera. I needed to purchase a faster, better microSD card to enjoy the high-quality capabilities of this GoPro 12 (5.3K 60 Resolution). One of the standout features of this GoPro that I enjoy the most is the HyperSmooth 6.0 video stabilization with 360° Horizon Lock. It was a game-changer for capturing smooth footage even in the most challenging conditions, especially for the activities I enjoy (hiking and biking). The Volta is a versatile accessory designed to enhance the GoPro experience. It serves multiple purposes: - It doubles as a wireless camera remote control (98 feet (30 meters). I had the opportunity to test it at 95 feet away, and it delivered as described. - The charging aspect is incredibly convenient, especially for video creators. It eliminates the hassle of constantly swapping out GoPro batteries or juggling multiple battery packs. - With a 4900 mAh battery capacity, the Volta ensures I have sufficient power for my trip, like having additional 2.8 GoPro Enduro Batteries. - It serves as a small tripod, perfect for time-lapse captures or remote recording. - The GoPro Volta is compatible with GoPro mods and accessories, allowing you to expand to older models. - Since it comes with a standard USB-C cable, it is a handy backup charger for my Android device. The vertical video mode caught my attention; it is a standout feature of this GoPro 12, and it simplifies the process of creating engaging content tailored to platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Without making unnecessary rotations on clips, tripods, or attachments, everything is from the device itself or the phone application. Recommendations: - A MicroSD card rating of v30 or UHS-3 is recommended. - To open up a 177-degree field of view in 4K at 60 fps, the optional Max Lens Mod 2.0 is required. - A cover is highly recommended to protect the lenses from scratches, weather, and the environment. The included box is too big for hiking trips or bike rides, not something you take on in your adventures. Pros: - The introduction of Bluetooth audio support for standard devices like Apple AirPods enhances the overall experience. You can record high-quality sound in addition to providing voice commands remotely. - The HERO12 Black is waterproof up to 33 feet; it does not require that heavy and ugly clear plastic case. - The HERO12 Black offers timecode synchronization; this feature caters to filmmakers and content creators seeking more creative control over their footage. - The vertical video is convenient for what I do. No need to adjust any adapters; just change the settings right from the screen or phone Quik application. Cons - Lack of GPS support: unlike its predecessors, the new GoPro Hero 12 Black lacks support for GPS data. It could not be enjoyable for users relying on this feature and data for location tracking and geotagging. - No clear instructions on how to use devices. - The battery compartment is difficult to remove; strong fingers are required. I am assuming it is intentional to obtain a water seal.

Creator Edition is a must have on you everywhere
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The GoPro Hero12 Black Creator Edition has everything you need to start creating amazing videos indoors and out. The Hero12 Black takes clear up to 5k video outdoors and surprisingly has a decent amount of battery life. However, with the Creator Edition package, you get the magic lies in the Volta Battery Grip. With the battery grip connected to the Hero12 Black using USB-c connection, you get hours and hours of recording time. The limiting factor will be your microSD card size. The Creator Edition also includes the Media Mod which opens an additional mic that gives you better audio capture than the onboard mic of the Hero12. On top of that, a Light Mod is included which means this package is the ideal package for conducting interviews anywhere and not only useful in action sports. This will be a portable high-definition video creation tool on the go without the bulky equipment. Oh, and by the way, you can pair a Bluetooth headset to the Hero12 to capture your voice such as Airpods or Pixel Buds. The HyperSmooth video stabilization is amazing for the little package that it comes in and can all be stored in the included stiff shell case. One thing I did end up purchasing extra is a very short right-angled USB-c Male to Female adapter because I did not like the torque the USB-c connector of the Volta Grip was putting on the USB-c port on the Media Mod. Since the cord is coiled, it is pulling on the connector which made be feel a bit uncomfortable with the longevity of the USB-c port. Also, when you are not using the Hero12, don’t leave the Volta grip plugged into the Hero12, it will continuously drain the Volta Grip Battery. Overall, the Creator Edition just enhances the value that the GoPro Hero12 Black already has in terms of video quality, stabilization, and portability. With the Creator Edition, it makes the GoPro Hero12 package a must carry everywhere because of how versatile the package makes recording high-def videos anywhere so easy.

Awesome Mobile Creation Solution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I believe that GoPro cameras have become synonomous with their product category, like Kleenix or Vaseline. I view them as the standard for the outdoor, on-the-go camera solution. Since I've been working on creating more content, I wanted something that was more rugged and could easily go with me from place to place in different settings. The GoPro Hero 12 Creator bundle has literally everything you need to create beautiful, 4K video content in a single, on-the-go, package. The bundle comes in it's own contained case for easy travel and packing. The case itself feels strong and sturdy, and I felt safe tossing it in the back of the car. Inside the case, you get the GoPro Hero 12 camera, the external Media Mod housing case with microphone, portable light, microphone noise cover, Enduro Battery, and more importantly, you also get the Volta Battery Grip. The grip doubles as both an in-hand wand, as well as a tripod for stationary shots. The Volta Grip also pairs with the camera over Bluetooth, and can also work as a wireless remote as long as you're not too far away from the camera. I really enjoyed using the camera to capture all sorts of memories and content. The image quality was amazing and the battery life was more than I expected, but I ran into 2 odd scenarios that caused me to bump the rating from 5 to 4 stars. First, while you can connect the GoPro to a Mac or PC over USB-C cables, I had trouble reliably porting videos from the camera's SD card onto my laptops. Since I usually keep the GoPro inside the Media Mod case, I rely on the camera's USB-C port for connecting to my computer. I ended up having to remove the case, which takes some work, remove the memory card from the camera and plug it into my laptop in order to successfully transfer videos. Since the Media Mod case is meant to be a rugged type case to allow for connecting different accessories, this is a pain since the Media Mod case's release clamp is very tight. And since we're on the subject of USB connectivity, I also noticed that GoPro offers an app that lets the camera be used as a webcam. I thought, 'Cool, I can use this for content on the go as well as creating content directly from my laptop.' However, I found that for some reason, GoPro limits the camera's video resolution to 1080p and, what I imagine is 30 FPS. With such a beefy camera that can record video in 5.3K HDR video, this feels like an artificial limitation over USB-C. I have not yet tried to use my 4K capture card yet to see if this works, so your mileage may vary if you go that route. All that being said, I really love creating content with this, and I feel much more secure using this camera in the outdoors for more exciting, high-speed fun recording!

Your portable video powerhouse
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS (and noteable improvements) - Better battery life (largely by removing GPS) - Bluetooth microphone audio capture - Tripod Mount - HyperSmooth 6 is arguably best in its class - HDR video + photos, GP-log - Handheld tripod is perfect for filming content on the go CONS - Battery charging is slow - Low light performance needs improvement - Included light doesn’t have any color temperature control - Control latency between GoPro and Volta seems a little delayed - All video settings aren't available in all aspect ratios Go-Pro is a household name for its action camera and millions of people use them to capture video of their sport and outdoor activities. This kit includes the latest GoPro Hero 12 Black which has all the latest features, versatility, and accessory compatibility that you expect from the brand with extras that focus on creators. The Hero 12 Black has some solid improvements over the Hero 11 Black. There have been some physical changes to this model like the introduction of a handy tripod mount which sits in between two mounting clips that flip up on the underside of the unit. The case also has a cool new speckled paint detail on the main body which I rather like. Other than that the rear touch screen and front screen are unchanged in this model, but they are great so I don't necessarily think there needs to be changes here. Some hardware changes that you can’t see is the removal of GPS which results in some much improved battery life, but the biggest change in my opinion is the addition of Bluetooth audio support. This is a big deal in terms of versatility as it allows you to pair headphones and microphones to both listen to and capture audio. Also notable is that the audio from the GoPro is still captured so you end up with two audio tracks, handy if you aren’t near the camera and want to record a voice over. In my testing while recording video of me in front of the camera and wearing my AirPods for audio the lip sync was perfect with no noticeable delay. Finally, the Bluetooth audio can be used for voice commands as well giving you a versatile handsfree way to start and stop recordings. From a software perspective the Hero 12 gets some new features like HDR as well as GP-Log support. For the more casual user simply enabling HDR is a great way to get more out of your video especially if the environment is more challenging with bright and dark areas. I was however disappointed that HDR was not available in all aspect ratios like 4:3 and especially 9:16 which is important for short form video platforms. If you are more of pro user you can enable 10-bit depth which in turn allows you to enable GP-Log. This retains more data of the shadows and highlights for when you are color grading your footage later. The Media Pod, Volta Grip, and Light Mod are bundled together with the Hero 12 in this Creator Bundle and they add a tremendous amount of flexibility in modular formfactors you’d expect from the GoPro brand. The Media Pod adds a shotgun microphone which improves the audio of the Hero 12’s built-in microphones. There are profiles that allow you to focus on capturing audio in front of, behind or all around the camera. It also provides inputs for external audio via a 3.5 mm jack as well as HDMI output via the micro HDMI port for external screens. The cold shoe up top can be used to mount the included Light Mod for illuminating your subject. There are 3 different brightness settings, but I wish there was a little more granularity in the brightness as well as an option to modify the color temperature. Finally, the Volta grip is essential especially on vacation or for long videos as it also provides an additional 4900 mAh external battery so that you can continue to shoot comfortably all day. It also functions as a Bluetooth remote for changing the mode and starting/stopping recording. I found that I typically bring it with me regardless of whether I’m using it as a grip or not so that I can use it to not only use to control my shoot, but also to recharge my GoPro if necessary. I found the rounded body comfortable to hold and there is a lanyard for your wrist as an extra security measure.

The original...and still the best
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The GoPro Hero 11 was a phenomenal camera. It was unclear how GoPro was going to improve on it. Enter the new GoPro Hero 12 Black--better in so many ways than any of its predecessors. What's better? HDR in 4k and 5.3k modes. You can pair the camera with as many as 4 Bluetooth devices. GoPro has made it easier to use multiple GoPro cameras by including a Timecode Sync feature. They upgraded their HyperSmooth 5.0 image stabilization to HyperSmooth 6 for better stabilization when shooting videos. Along with GoPro's proprietary mounting system, which is expansive, they have also included a standard 1/4" mount so you can use any tripod with the Hero 12. GoPro has also managed to deliver 2x better battery life. They have also improved the interface to be intuitive, and it's a big improvement. But is anything missing? Unfortunately, yes. You no longer have GPS tracking. For most people, no problem. But the powersports people are going to miss it. Operating the camera is super simple. You can use the mobile app (Quik), voice, or the optional Volta battery grip. Picture/video quality has always been stellar with GoPro cameras. And while subtle, I believe GoPro was managed to make some improvements with the 12. And it all starts with the larger image sensor, which also provides a 156 degree field of view in a full-frame 8:7 aspect ratio, in both 5.3K and 4K. If you have a GoPro 11 or earlier, in my opinion the 12 is worth the upgrade if for no other reason than the extended battery life. Throw in all the other improvements, and it's a no brainer. Get it!!

Best GoPro so far!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned every GoPro since the Hero 3. The cameras have evolved and changed so much since then. Since the Hero 10 however, there have only been minor improvements. I believe this is because GoPro’s have become so refined and proven that there is not a need for big changes every year. The Hero 12 creator edition is the perfect camera for vlogging. It has everything you need built into a small, lightweight, and versatile package. One of my favorite features is the stabilization. It used to be that in order to get super stable video it required a bulk gimble. Even with a gimble it took a technique and knowledge for the video to turn out well. The in camera stabilization that GoPro uses is point and shoot and looks great. Since GoPros are waterproof, the camera audio can sometime be less than ideal. However, using the creator housing it comes with a built in shotgun microphone that allows for excellent audio. If you prefer, you can plug in any external microphone. One of the coolest features GoPro added to the camera this year is the ability to connect wireless earbuds, including Airpods. This allows you to use them as an external recording device or remote voice control your camera. I believe this is a big game changer. The next big thing that was upgraded this year is battery life. I have never had an issue with battery life because I prefer to record in shorter clips. If I run out of battery I just replace the battery with another. However, for some it might not be this simple. For example, if the camera is mounted externally to a vehicle and you cannot change the battery. Regardless, the extended battery times are welcomed. The creator edition includes the battery grip which I highly recommend if you are holding the GoPro or using it for vlogging. If battery life is important, then you can always shoot at a lower frame rate to conserve battery. The GoPro Hero 12 packs so much tech into a small and quite affordable package. I do not think there is another camera on the market that can offer everything it does in a small and versatile package. If you have a GoPro Hero 10 or 12 the new features may or may not be worth the upgrade. The reason I get a new one every year is because it never hurts to have more than one camera anyway. If you do not own a GoPro and are looking for a Vlog camera or simply a camera to capture your adventures, then look no more. Both the pictures and videos that this camera can produce will make people think you are using a much more expensive camera.
