I have never owned an “action” camera before, although the name GoPro has been around for many years. Introduced in 2004, using 35mm film, it has seen many changes over the years, evolving into a rugged, waterproof, totally self contained, and with a large array of accessories to broaden your scope and versatility of photography.
In its diminutive body you have a high resolution camera easily swapping between video, still photography, and an array of special effects. These include slow-motion, underwater scenes to 333 ft depth without an extra casing, videostabiliization of images, timelapse of star movement or fireworks flares, etc. High resolution up to 4K.
The small size is perfect for one hand shooting, whereas using your phone is much more cumbersome, and phones are much more fragile, even with a case.
Via the Quik app, the camera connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth. With this wireless connection a lot can be done hands off: you can remotely adjust various settings, activate the shutter, and automatically upload the photos/video to your phone or your computer. This just scratches the surface of the capacities, many of which I have yet to discover in the 10 days I have had the camera.
No instruction book was included, perhaps assuming that most owners have prior models, and most of the shooting and adjusting of parameters is similar to previous cameras. Instead there was a small flyer that advised loading the Quik app on your phone, and updating the firmware. To begin basic shooting, however, this left me with a lot of hunting on the web page of GoPro, and the downloaded app Quik.
The app has regular updates, and via the Quik app, your camera will receive firmware updates as well. In the week since I first started my exploration and learning about the camera, there was already an update of Quik.

Quik can add music to your downloaded video footage, and create montages of your still photos, whether taken from the GoPro, or images on your Photos library from other sources. These can be organized into albums by the app. Editing tools exist in the app to cut footage not wanted, splice the segments, and speed up or slow down segments for slo-mo or rapid pace viewing. Filter effects can be added for post-production highlighting of your video.Trophy single frame images can be extracted from the video footage for a high resolution print.
Living up to the action camera capacities, you can control your camera from your phone, so you don’t have to take off your helmet or remove the camera from your snowboard front to start recording, adjust settings, etc.
Using the Bluetooth connectivity, you can live stream from the GoPro for sharing the action while it is happening.
Reviewing the GoPro web page, the Hero 13 offers new features and options over the GoPro 12 that are compelling. Some of the changes require the model 13, and are incompatible with previous models. Since this is my first GoPro, it affects me not at all. But if you have prior models, some of these will not work with former cameras.
One change with the 13, there is a larger capacity battery, and physically larger with different array of electrical contacts in the battery socket as well. So if you have a small arsenal of batteries from older GoPros, for a long day of photo shooting, you cannot utilize those batteries in your new camera. The new battery has about 10% higher mAh rating, increased from a 1720mAh to 1900mAh.
Since prior models had the habit of shutting down when the battery heated up too much, and the housing has been redesigned to provide better cooling for the battery, so cool down interruptions are diminished.
One relatively new accessory (Hero 10 or later) is essentially a mag-safe like external charging feature. This is not included with the 13, but as an extra purchase. You replace the battery door with one that has charging ports which can be connected to a variety of power sources , such as a power bank, wall plug, perhaps a solar panel (?). via a USB-C plugin. So the camera can remain attached to your helmet, handlebars, hang-glider frame, or whatever, and you have a larger external battery recharging the internal battery as you go.
Swappable camera lenses now automatically adjust the camera settings for the new parameters of the alternative lens. Previously when you switched to a macro or wide angle lens, you would have to go into the camera settings and adjust for the change. Now the lens will be sensed by the camera, and the adjustments are automatic.
Changing the lenses is conceptually simple. The instructions in the downloadable manual were to push the lens cover in and then give it a twist. However, for me it would not budge. I was tempted to use a pliers or similar to accomplish the removal. But not yet owning an attachment lens to add for macro or other utilization, I controlled that impulse. Further reading online gave the suggestion that initially you need to slightly pull the cover AWAY from the camera body, sort of to break the factory seal. Similar to the first opening of a jar of olives or jelly. With a fingernail I gently pried around the circumference of the lens, and then the twist and turn worked. Reportedly, after a few times, it becomes much easier to swap out your lenses and filters.
The camera responds to voice commands, so you can take a photo, switch between photo and video and time lapse mode, without having to let go of the handlebars, etc.
This is going to replace my digital mirrorless SLR and probably half of my phone-ography

I have owned GoPros since the hero 2 and nearly every model. The hero13 has a few new tricks up it's sleeve, one being HLG HDR which looks amazing on an HDR display, other being the new accessories like the macro lens and magnetic charger door. It is a very mature system at this point especially considering the gopro labs extra features. I use these cameras kayak fishing and love the qr timecode sync, the quality of the built in mics, and the mounts.
I would like to see better low light functionality.

The GoPro HERO13 Black is the most impressive GoPro I’ve had the pleasure of using. The camera offers up to 5.3K resolution at 60 fps, 1080p at 240 fps and up to 400 frames of slo-mo bursts at 720p (for 15 seconds). For most situations, 4K at 60 FPS is ideal, but there are plenty of options to get the correct resolution and frame rate. The 13th edition of the Hero offers HDR video, HyperSmooth stabilization and WiFi 6 for faster transfer speeds. With GPS, you can tag the location of your photos and videos in real time, which makes it easier to organize the footage after the fact. The camera is sturdy and waterproof up to 33 ft.
The setup process is fairly easy. I’m not sure if you can set it up without a smartphone, but what you do is link the camera to your phone with the app, so that the camera can receive the most current firmware. You can also rename the camera and figure out a few settings, such as cloud storage. You can also use your phone as a remote, and you can view the image on your phone, although the preview looked much darker on my phone than on the camera.
To give it a proper test ride, I figured a run up the local hills would be a good demonstration as to whether the 13 Black could handle my extreme athleticism. It was roughly 75°F and sunny, so fairly optimal conditions for a good shoot. I will mention that after roughly 30 mins of use, the camera did feel pretty warm. The camera stabilization works so wonderfully, and keeps the shot very steady while running around on a dirt road. The HDR adds a little more contrast, but the regular image looks beautiful as well, and is of course more compatible than HDR. For action shots, I highly recommend using at least 60 fps, since I started filming at 30 while still learning the camera. I read the manual before leaving my home, but it’s hard to remember 75 pages while huffing and puffing like Darth Vader.
I recommend switching to the Pro settings ASAP, because that’s where all the important settings are. I found the sharpness filter to be a little too aggressive by default (medium), and it enhanced every little hair and imperfection on my face to the point that I felt very self-conscious. There’s also a lot of noise reduction on by default, so definitely tinker with those settings before and while you shoot.
The audio sounded good in windy conditions, and if you want it to sound even better, you can save the audio as raw wav files, which is great if you’re willing to sacrifice some SD space. The microphone had no problem picking up my voice and it sounded nice and clear.
The typical GoPro mount is included, and the camera works with common camera mounts, but there are several GoPro options as well. GoPro also offers additional lens if you’re looking for more options than the ones included, perhaps a macro or an anamorphic. I personally will invest in a macro lens in the near future. You can also get ND filters for more cinematic, motion-blur looks.
More useful features include QuikCapture that allows you to start shooting by pressing the capture button when the camera is off, HindSight allows you to capture 15 or 30 seconds BEFORE you hit capture. There’s a 2X (digital?) zoom, a timer and a scheduled capture. Of course, there’s plenty of manual control for ISO, white balance, shutter speed, sharpness and noise suppression. Lens options without physically replacing lenses include linear, wide, SuperView (16mm) and HyperView (12mm). There’s also a linear with horizon lock, which forces the perspective horizontally. It works really well, and it’s perfect for POV-style running or biking videos. I found HyperView to be too wide under most circumstances, but I can see it come in handy when you’re in tight spaces. While filming you can add HiLight tags to mark your favorite moments.
The photo mode does a great job at taking photos, whether you want to take single photos or bursts. There’s also a time lapse mode with plenty of options in terms of resolution and frequency of photos taken. The display turns itself off after a while, but the red light will keep blinking. A night mode comes in handy for night shots or filming the sky at night, there are several time lapse modes for night settings as well.
The HERO13 works great as a webcam, and all you need is to download an app to make your computer see it as a webcam. The two resolutions available are 1080p and 720p at 30 fps. The picture quality is great, and very minimal latency. You can also live stream by connecting to the GoPro Quik app.
I finally want to mention that this is my third GoPro. My first one was one of the early models, the second one was from maybe 5 years ago, so I’m glad to see these improvements. I’m looking forward to using this camera in multiple different ways.
All in all, I would highly recommend the HERO13 Black to anyone looking for an upgraded GoPro or just looking for a compact camera that handles motion and the outdoors like a charm. There are plenty of accessories available to enhance the experience even further, but with just what you get out of the box, this is a camera that will impress both and your viewers, time and time again!

10 bit with LOG option. I mean say more? The GoPro 13 gets quite a few helpful upgrades, big fan of the magnetic mount. Not super thrilled about needing all new batteries but it is what it is. If you e waited for an upgrade to your GoPro set up, this one’s worth it.

A Fantastic Action Camera!

GoPro is such an icon when it comes to action cameras. Because of this, I would expect them to have the most advanced technology and features in their product. I’ve owned many GoPro cameras and with each release I remain, continually impressed.
First Impressions
Straight out of the box, this thing feels solid. It’s not too heavy but also not so light that it feels like a toy. The first thing I did was test out the video quality because, let’s be real, that’s what we all care about, right? Shooting in 5.3K at 60fps blew my mind. It’s so sharp it almost feels too real sometimes (is that a thing?). I shot some off road footage in my Tacoma, and even though my tacoma was all over the place, the HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilization kept everything steady. It was very impressive.
Battery Life - Good but Could Be Better
Let’s talk battery. The 1,900mAh Enduro battery lasted longer than I expected, but I wish it would stretch further. I got about an hour and a half shooting in 5.3K, which is good, but if you're on an all-day adventure, you’ll want to carry an extra battery or two. When I dropped down to 1080p, it lasted closer to 2.5 hours, which is nice, but who’s going to shoot in 1080p when you’ve got 5.3K right there?
Easy to Use, If You Want
This camera has two modes: Easy Mode for the “I don’t care, just make it work” people, and Pro Mode for those who like to tinker with every little setting. I’m somewhere in between. I love that you can set up custom presets, so I made a few for different activities (biking, off-roading, random videos of my kids) and now I can just switch between them without thinking too hard.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Good, Not Great
Here’s a cool thing: Wi-Fi 6! Transferring files is faster than ever, but is it really 40% faster like they say? Meh, maybe, but not enough that I was blown away. It’s still way better than older models though. Also, the Bluetooth audio feature is fun. I hooked up my wireless mic for better sound, but honestly, the built-in mic isn’t bad at all. Of course, you have to have a WiFi 6 capable router to take advantage of the faster transfer speeds. Luckily I do. Very awesome addition GoPro!
Night Modes and Cool Effects
If you’re into nighttime photography, the Night Effects are something else. I tried out the Star Trails mode, and while I didn’t exactly create a masterpiece, the feature is cool if you want to try something creative. If you like playing with light, it’s definitely a feature worth exploring. As a photographer, I love expanding my creativity and I feel this GoPro is going to allow me to enhance and expand my creativity.
Durability
This thing is built to last. I dunked it in water, dropped it on some rocks, and it’s still kicking. It’s waterproof up to 33 feet, which I tested while diving. The footage looked great underwater, and I didn’t have to worry about a thing. Plus, it’s rugged enough to handle pretty much whatever you throw at it.
Needed Improvements
Please implement fast charging. I repeat, please implement some sort of fast charging. It's time. We are limited on battery due to the small package that all of this technology is packed in. The biggest advantage to a small battery with limited time is some sort of quick charging feature to allow folks to get another 80% in 30-40 minutes. This is so crucial for the consumer.
Another issue, overheating. This has been an issue in action cameras for a long time. This is also something that still exists with GoPro and it's an unfortunate truth. The manufacturers have yet to solve this problem. Figure that out. It will separate you from the competition.
Who’s It For?
If you’re the type of person who likes to document every adrenaline-pumping second of life or even just take really high-quality videos of your kids, this camera will make you happy. For the price, you’re getting an insane amount of tech. It’s a beast of a camera.
So yeah, in short: if you’re serious about action shots or just want the latest and greatest GoPro to flex on social media, the Hero 13 Black is your new best friend.

I’ve wanted to get an action camera for some time now and the new Hero13 seemed like a good place to jump in. The 13 brings back GPS and upgrades the slo-mo options, battery capacity, wifi, and adds new lens options.
First thing I did after the camera arrived was to head over to BestBuy and pick up an Insignia action camera accessory kit to go with it. An assortment of mounts, a tripod, and float handle in a carry case. I’ll probably be looking to snag a macro lens and a bar mount when my budget allows. It’s neat that the camera can detect what HB series lens or ND filter is installed.
The video quality is outstanding, with 2.7k @ up to 240 fps, 4k @ up to 120 fps, or 5.3k@ up to 60 fps. With HDR turned on, you can film in 4k @ up to 60 fps. 27 mp still shots or 24.69mp if you’re taking screen grabs from 8:7 5.3k videos. That drops to 15.87mp if you’re taking it from 16:9 5.3k video so if you know you’ll be using screen grabs set your aspect ratio accordingly for the best quality?
There’s several Time Warp presets to choose from or you can create your own. I did try the Star Trails option. I left it on a tripod, looking straight up for almost an hour to record about three seconds of video. Need a battery bank to let it run for four or five hours to get the full effect but it gave me a still photo of the effect as well as the video. I’ll attach the photo to the review. Definitely something I’ll be trying when we’re camping at a dark sky site next time!
I’m looking forward to using this for content creation going forward, with multiple mounting options and all the accessories that are available this camera can go just about anywhere. Waterproof to 10 meters so I’ll be taking it snorkeling next time we’re in the Caribbean.
This being my first GoPro, this is also my first time seeing GoPro’s Quik app. Just using it for a few days it appears to be a very powerful video editing tool for a mobile device! You can do nearly everything to prepare video for posting! I tried adding Stickers to show the data the GPS collected: altitude, speed, location, gforce, etc. Edit videos for length, add music and effects, adjust for camera tilt, etc. It also allows you to control the camera directly from the app, I used it to start and stop the exposure for the time lapse video I took. It’s really cool!

I believe that GoPro has outdone themselves with the GoPro Hero 13 Black. Technology has come a long way since I got my previous GoPro (Hero 9 which had a fatal issue for my use - battery life). The Hero 13 has a new 1900 mAh Enduro battery that GoPro claims (I have not verified yet) will yield up to 2.5 hours of continuous recording. It also supports a magnetic-attach power cable that allows for the camera to be powered from any USB-C charging source. The Hero 13 supports 5.3K60, 4K120, 2.7K120, and 1080p240 video modes. It supports up to 400 fps for “semi high-speed” video. It is waterproof down to 33 feet for underwater work. While the Hero 13 supports digital zoom, it also supports HB series lenses with auto-detect for better shooting with no compromise to the recording resolution. Remarklable image stabilization, 10-bit color, and timecode sync support for multiple camera synchronization. Along with all of this, GoPro came up with a clever magnetic latch mount that allows easy movement of your Hero 13 Black between mounting setups.
I did experience one glitch out-of-the-box. The camera was clearly marked that a firmware update was required, so I dutifully took the camera out of the box and opened the app to perform the update. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I tried for over one hour, to no avail. I suspect that GoPro's update servers might have been down (it was Saturday morning after all), because later in the day everything just worked as expected.
Again, this is the high water mark for GoPro with the Hero 13 Black. It's an awesome camera with a breadth of features unlike any of its competitors.

The GoPro Hero 13 Black is the latest addition to GoPro’s excellent line of action cameras, and it absolutely lives up to the hype. It has plenty of advanced features and amazing performance, it captures great detail on both the photos and videos.
First, it comes out of its box with a conscious mind, most if not all the packaging can be recycled. And I have taken it to a bicycle ride; I ran with it and also took pictures and video while hiking and here are my thoughts. so let me explain while I try to keep it short.
The Hero 13 Black supports 5.3K video recording at 60 frames per second and with this high resolution not only does it show sharp and amazing detail on any adventure, it is flexible post production so you can show your videos on different social media platforms either landscape or portrait and they will look professional made.
With the HB Series lenses that are available for the camera, I can be ready for different occasions, between the Macro lens mod, Ultra-Wide lens Mod, Anamorphic lens mod and the ND filter 4 pack they all enhance every occasion with their versatility.
The GoPro’s HyperSmooth stabilization has been improved even more on the 13 Black. With HyperSmooth provides amazing stabilization, videos come out smooth and steady I took it cycling on a bumpy ride and it looks super smooth.
I also like how easy it is to change from slow motion, to time-lapse to photo and regular video.
The Hero 13 Black has also further improved the audio quality with the option to add an external microphone. This is a great feature for people like me, either while vlogging or creating content that need clear sound. I can use either AirPods, Bluetooth earbuds or just a wireless mic. It also records in stereo using its 3 microphones.
With a 1900mAh Enduro battery the Hero 13 Black offers extended recording times in return there is more time to enjoy the adventure and less worry about the battery life. Up to 2.5 hours of continuous recording in 1080p, just keep in mind that this battery is not compatible with older GoPros. And something that helps charging without taking the battery off is the magnetic door and power cable kit, sold separately but available.
As for connectivity, the inclusion of Wi-Fi 6 technology it is much faster, over 40 percent faster is a lot more. Also it connects via Bluetooth to connect as well as give it commands remotely using your voice.
The GPS is just amazing, now I no longer have to try to match where I have taken the pictures or videos, the guessing is over specially when I am in visiting a new place.
The camera supports Hybrid Log Gamma High Dynamic Range video so it delivers better video with good detail.
Overall, there are many other functions to enjoy and while I try to keep my review short, I hope it helps you discover more functions, most of my previous GoPro accessories do fit the new GoPro 13 Black, except the batteries and there are other accessories that are new and I am happy to enjoy this upgrade, it is worth it.

The GoPro Hero13 Action camera is a great piece of hardware. It gives full control to the user for all things image/video quality related, with enough options to get lost in. Its really hard to sum up all the features this thing has, and in my short time with it so far I have not been able to make use of all of them.
Pros
Durable Design
High quality sensor for recording (up to 5.3k)
Tons quality options and settings
Standardized Mounting for easy accessory shopping
Cons
Battery Life
Buttons can be hard to press at times
Lackluster Software
My use with the camera so far has been limited to just a few motorcycle rides. For these rides I have selected to record at 4k/60fps. For these rides I was left a little disappointed with the battery life with the camera dropping down to 20% after just an hour ride. With that said, I believe the battery life would extend by dropping quality down to 1440p or even 1080p while retaining the 60fps. The camera got a little warm when recording, even with the wind of the bike ride.
One thing I found odd was that the camera broke up the video in almost 30m sections (so each ride resulted in 2 clips). The quality was great in playback on both the camera and my PC.
Now in order to use the camera you have to install GoPros Quik software, which is really this cameras shortcoming. GoPro no longer offers their own editing software for PC use, so without getting into Premiere/Resolve or similar programs, you have to use this app. It tries to be useful, but it gets in its own way more often than not.
You can control the camera in much the same way as natively, remote control, quality, etc. But where it fails is in a few areas.
First, the constant subscription service reminder. Yes, this is another app that wants you to subscribe to their service. It pops up to tell you every time you start the app.
Secondly, the editing controls are not the greatest. There are a couple menus for editing, one will give you suggestions on what to change, which I didn't find very useful. The second one lets you trim the video, change filters, and apply stickers. One thing that appealed to me about this camera was the ability to capture you speed and GPS while recording. It took a while to find the feature in the app, and it has to be added after the fact. Its not overlayed while recording but instead added in post process. This would be fine in a desktop app, but not in the mobile one as it takes far too long (I'm using a Galaxy S24 Ultra).
In order to edit the videos, it has to transfer to the phone and that can take a while. Its around 10m per 30m video. It connects directly via wifi with the device and transfers the video. From there, you can do your edits. Trimming is very clunky, having to slide and slide to get your start and end portion of the trim. I wasn't able to do multiple trims to delete sections I didn't want. Finally when you're done editing, or you're wanting to do playback to check your edit, it gets extremely laggy/drops frames. This just adds to the frustration of not having a native PC program to do this where you could harness much faster hardware to edit your videos.
Exporting the video after editing takes a long long time as well. You can choose tons of export options which is really nice, but its lost on the fact that mobile hardware isn't fast enough to do it in a timely manner. I can't imagine anyone wanting to give up their phone for exporting for an hour while its working.
Of course, all of this can be mitigated by using a desktop program to edit the files yourself. Doing this, I had no issues. I could edit the video files easy enough with Premiere, the GPS data is stored in the meta files in the video so 3rd party applications can overlay it on your video. This is the best use case for this device I think possible. Just forget the mobile app for anything more than changing settings on the fly and just use your PC. The performance simply isn't there yet in that area.
Overall this is a great device that I can't wait to use more. In the coming weeks I'll be using it at work to record artillery shoots and look forward to the slow motion capture. Battery life is my only concern that changes how I would use the device, needing multiple batteries for longer bike rides and a means of which to recharge them on the road. Other people should plan for the same if they are going to be doing long expeditions with the camera and recording at high quality settings.

TL:DR - Photo quality, video quality, stabilization, and microphone are fantastic! Battery life is meh, and in the hot sun, it can overheat, but it was basically getting nothing but sun with no movement on a tripod. When riding my bike in the sun, I couldn’t get it to overheat! Also is it weird, I threw it on my lawn mower to capture me mowing? Haha, I love this thing! Seriously, the action clip I made with me mowing and string trimming is so fun!

This is my first action camera. I’ve always wanted one, but never got around to getting one and now that I have used one, it has changed my life. The small size and portability and sheer versatility of the GoPro makes it my preferred camera when I want to take action videos of whatever I’m doing. I have a hot air balloon experience scheduled for my anniversary next weekend and I’m 100% bringing this along for that!
I went on a bike ride with a couple buddies of mine to test this out and the footage was absolutely amazing. Both my friends loved the video so much they plan on getting one as well. And this was the unedited version they saw. With a little bit of time in an editor, it would have blown them away even more! Basically they weren’t convinced it was any better than a cellphone camera, until they saw it in action. I also took it on a ride around the neighborhood and it’s fantastic. One of my favorite things to do now is to strap it on my daughters and watch them play on the playground. They also love this and think it’s so fun to watch themselves play. We took it on a really big slide in the neighborhood by an outlet mall by us and the slide is a great time. The video it captured while my kiddo went down was basically epic. I plan on making a family video for the family and calling it “through the eyes of my kids” or something like that! My parents and grandparents (their grandparents, and great grandparents) will love it!
I also wanted to just do random things with this, so I threw it on a tripod and did some lawn work! Threw it on my lawn mower's handlebars, the end of the string trimmer, and stuck it to the top of the lawn mower. With some editing and cutting out clips of my lawn work, I swear with some proper music, this could end up a commercial of something haha. But that is where I learned of my first problem with the GoPro, the OVERHEATING :(
It was on a tripod, just sitting in the sun while I was recording myself mowing part of my lawn (like a weirdo) and it overheated! It was unexpected. Luckily I got enough of what I wanted anyway, but I found it odd that it did. I didn’t notice any overheating during my bike ride for over an hour the previous day and it was hotter then than it was during my mow. It didn’t overheat while on my lawnmower though so perhaps a fluke?
The other downside is the battery life! I noticed it nearly take out the battery during my bike ride. 90 minute bike ride and it was essentially wiped. I’m guessing it’ll be dead in 2 hours
Overall though, hardly a deal breaker for me. The cameras pros outweigh the cons for sure! I love it and will continue to use it along side my camera. The memories, are fantastic and I can totally see a YouTuber using this for content creation on YouTube! I do watch the walks through various countries across the world. Perhaps they’re using GoPros. Huh, who would have thought!

I've always wanted a GoPro camera but I've always been hesitant about getting one not knowing exactly what I could use it for our wood use it for. After having this GoPro 13 for a week now I'm blown away at the picture and audio quality I've used this mounted to my hard head at work mounted to my vehicle during drives as well as taking it in my swimming pool.
The picture quality of this is just incredible audio is shockingly good as well from such a small device. Battery life is great better than I expected out of such a small battery. The GoPro app is great for editing your videos and photos well you can download them to your phone or device or if you pay for the subscription you can upload it to GoPros cloud which I declined.
There are so many accessories for these cameras it makes my head spin I got the short handheld stick for personal use when swimming I've also got a mount for my electric go track scooter. These little cameras are incredible the video quality of the 5K footage just looks great weather viewing it all my Samsung Galaxy tab S9 ultra or my 4K LG OLED TV.
I definitely recommend getting one of these to anybody on the fence. I just hope it holds up because it's awesome to have I never knew I would use it as much as I do.

The King of Action Cameras

After using the GoPro HERO13 Action Camera for a time, which I recently acquired, I wanted to share my experience. I've owned a several GoPros over the years, and while there are certainly a few things that might be improved, the HERO13 feels like a major leap in a number of areas.
The HERO13, to start, has that iconic GoPro appearance—it's small, robust, and ready for any kind of adventure. As anticipated, the camera feels really sturdy and is well-built. Without any extra housing, it is waterproof to 33 feet (10 meters), making it ideal for poolside sports like kayaking and light snorkeling. This is a great feature for anyone using it in colder or more humid climates because the buttons are simple to press even when wearing gloves.
Although I had to squint to see what was on the display in really harsh lighting, the touch screen is brilliant and responsive. Similar to earlier iterations, the front-facing display is ideal for vlogging and for ensuring that you are in the frame when taking solo or selfie photos. It still fits most GoPro accessories because the general size and form factor haven't changed all that much, which is fantastic news. The HERO13 really shines in this situation. The video quality is quite good. It records 5.7K, highly detailed, and sharp video at 60 frames per second. In comparison to earlier models, the dynamic range appears to have improved and the colors are vivid. Though not flawless, the film is remarkably decent even in low light conditions.
You’ll still see some noise in really dark scenes, but for an action camera, it handles low light better than I expected.
I really like the new HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilizing feature. It's very astounding. The video I recorded with it while mountain riding over some rather rugged terrain was smooth as butter. It's similar to having a gimbal minus the additional equipment. Whether you're riding, skiing, or running, the stabilization does a great job of maintaining a professional-looking video. Another excellent feature is the TimeWarp mode, which enables you to make fluid time lapses while on the go. The feature that lets you adjust the video's pace in real-time is entertaining and operates perfectly, giving you creative freedom when making videos.
The HERO13 does fairly well in still photography, but it's obvious that this camera is intended mainly for video. Photos captured with the 27-megapixel sensor are clear and accurately reproduce color. A good selection of shooting options is available, including SuperPhoto, which automatically applies HDR, burst mode, and night mode. This is more than sufficient for the casual photographer, but if you're serious about photography, you may discover that it doesn't provide you the same level of control as a DSLR or even some smartphones.
The battery life is respectable but not exceptional. I used it moderately, getting between 1.5 and 2 hours of use out of a single charge (some video, some photographs). If you're utilizing the stabilization tools or shooting at higher resolutions, like as 5.7K the battery does drain faster. I recommend carrying an extra battery if you plan on using it for longer periods. Charging is quick though, so you won’t be waiting around too long
Operating on GoPro's most recent firmware, the HERO13 is generally fluid and simple to use. I like how they've kept things basic, and the touch interface is easy to use. When you're engaged in an activity and can't be fiddling with buttons, the voice commands are a great option for hands-free operation. I did see that the camera can still become a little warm when it is recorded for extended periods of time at higher resolutions. Although it shouldn't be a deal breaker, you should be mindful of it, particularly if you intend to record lengthy sessions.
With the HERO13, GoPro has enhanced the connectivity features. Transferring files to your computer or phone is quite easy thanks to the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, especially when using the GoPro Quik app. The software makes short adjustments and sharing simple, but you'll probably still need to transfer footage to a computer if you want to perform more involved editing. Additionally, there is the **GoPro subscription**, which provides certain accessory savings in addition to cloud storage for all of your film. Though not necessary unless you're a major fan of GoPro's ecosystem, it's nice to have. The voice-activated "Highlight Tagging" tool is another great innovation. Saying "GoPro, highlight" while filming allows you to quickly identify important scenes, which makes editing much simpler afterwards.
I'm quite satisfied with the GoPro HERO13 overall. It's a great improvement over earlier models, with amazing stability, robust, adventure-ready build, and amazing video quality. This is unquestionably a fantastic option if you enjoy taking pictures of extreme sports, outdoor activities, or just need a trustworthy camera for travel. It still needs to be improved in a few areas, such as battery life and heat management during lengthy 5.7K recordings, but overall those are quite little problems. If you're searching for a high-end action camera, I believe the HERO13 is well worth the money for everything it has to offer in terms of capabilities, quality, and versatility.

I was not as familiar with Action Cameras. I have seen them around. This was the first GoPro I was able to experience. The Build quality is amazing. It just feels durable and sturdy. For such a small lightweight action camera. It feels solid and now I understand why.
What I enjoyed about the camera is it only comes with two buttons. One to change the 3 modes. The other is to record and take pictures. I like simplicity! The buttons have a distinct "click" so you know you are pressing them. The display screen is very precise. For such a small display it worked well. The slides to get to the menus never had hiccups. The screen felt crisp and smooth. The mode it comes in is set for the basic functions. You can turn the advanced mode on to get more functionality. You can change the resolution, frame rate, etc.
The image quality is amazing for such a small form factor. It's perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. The microphone sound was also acceptable. This camera is capable of so much. Image quality outdoors should not be a problem. As long as you are not in low light. It has great video stabilization. It also has a feature for audio tuning. It comes with an app. The GoPro Quik App. It allows for more capability. You can do things on the go. You can control the Hero 13 through the app on your phone. There is even the capability for voice command!
Now, the battery is one of the downsides. With this camera spitting out high resolutions. I didn't expect the battery to be that great. It's decent but it's not anything amazing. Also, the door to enclose the battery and micro SD card is a tight fit. I struggle to get it open. Yet, I'd rather it be tight than loose. Outside of those small issues, I'm still learning more about the GoPro Hero13! I'm still amazed you get so much performance in such a small package!
