    The King of Action Cameras

After using the GoPro HERO13 Action Camera for a time, which I recently acquired, I wanted to share my experience. I've owned a several GoPros over the years, and while there are certainly a few things that might be improved, the HERO13 feels like a major leap in a number of areas. The HERO13, to start, has that iconic GoPro appearance—it's small, robust, and ready for any kind of adventure. As anticipated, the camera feels really sturdy and is well-built. Without any extra housing, it is waterproof to 33 feet (10 meters), making it ideal for poolside sports like kayaking and light snorkeling. This is a great feature for anyone using it in colder or more humid climates because the buttons are simple to press even when wearing gloves. Although I had to squint to see what was on the display in really harsh lighting, the touch screen is brilliant and responsive. Similar to earlier iterations, the front-facing display is ideal for vlogging and for ensuring that you are in the frame when taking solo or selfie photos. It still fits most GoPro accessories because the general size and form factor haven't changed all that much, which is fantastic news. The HERO13 really shines in this situation. The video quality is quite good. It records 5.7K, highly detailed, and sharp video at 60 frames per second. In comparison to earlier models, the dynamic range appears to have improved and the colors are vivid. Though not flawless, the film is remarkably decent even in low light conditions. You’ll still see some noise in really dark scenes, but for an action camera, it handles low light better than I expected. I really like the new HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilizing feature. It's very astounding. The video I recorded with it while mountain riding over some rather rugged terrain was smooth as butter. It's similar to having a gimbal minus the additional equipment. Whether you're riding, skiing, or running, the stabilization does a great job of maintaining a professional-looking video. Another excellent feature is the TimeWarp mode, which enables you to make fluid time lapses while on the go. The feature that lets you adjust the video's pace in real-time is entertaining and operates perfectly, giving you creative freedom when making videos. The HERO13 does fairly well in still photography, but it's obvious that this camera is intended mainly for video. Photos captured with the 27-megapixel sensor are clear and accurately reproduce color. A good selection of shooting options is available, including SuperPhoto, which automatically applies HDR, burst mode, and night mode. This is more than sufficient for the casual photographer, but if you're serious about photography, you may discover that it doesn't provide you the same level of control as a DSLR or even some smartphones. The battery life is respectable but not exceptional. I used it moderately, getting between 1.5 and 2 hours of use out of a single charge (some video, some photographs). If you're utilizing the stabilization tools or shooting at higher resolutions, like as 5.7K the battery does drain faster. I recommend carrying an extra battery if you plan on using it for longer periods. Charging is quick though, so you won’t be waiting around too long Operating on GoPro's most recent firmware, the HERO13 is generally fluid and simple to use. I like how they've kept things basic, and the touch interface is easy to use. When you're engaged in an activity and can't be fiddling with buttons, the voice commands are a great option for hands-free operation. I did see that the camera can still become a little warm when it is recorded for extended periods of time at higher resolutions. Although it shouldn't be a deal breaker, you should be mindful of it, particularly if you intend to record lengthy sessions. With the HERO13, GoPro has enhanced the connectivity features. Transferring files to your computer or phone is quite easy thanks to the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, especially when using the GoPro Quik app. The software makes short adjustments and sharing simple, but you'll probably still need to transfer footage to a computer if you want to perform more involved editing. Additionally, there is the **GoPro subscription**, which provides certain accessory savings in addition to cloud storage for all of your film. Though not necessary unless you're a major fan of GoPro's ecosystem, it's nice to have. The voice-activated "Highlight Tagging" tool is another great innovation. Saying "GoPro, highlight" while filming allows you to quickly identify important scenes, which makes editing much simpler afterwards. I'm quite satisfied with the GoPro HERO13 overall. It's a great improvement over earlier models, with amazing stability, robust, adventure-ready build, and amazing video quality. This is unquestionably a fantastic option if you enjoy taking pictures of extreme sports, outdoor activities, or just need a trustworthy camera for travel. It still needs to be improved in a few areas, such as battery life and heat management during lengthy 5.7K recordings, but overall those are quite little problems. If you're searching for a high-end action camera, I believe the HERO13 is well worth the money for everything it has to offer in terms of capabilities, quality, and versatility.

Great Action Camera, but the Good Stuff Is Extra

I really like the Hero 13. It’s a great action camera and GoPro has been making great action cams for a long time now. There is a lot new for the Hero 13, but most of it is separate from the camera itself. In the box you’ll get the Hero 13 camera, a single battery, a USB-C charging cable, and a curved adhesive mount. You’ll almost certainly need some additional mounts and accessories to really start using this and I started with a basic kit from Insignia just until I got an idea of what I wanted to use this for. The shape and design of the camera should be familiar to anyone who has used a GoPro in the recent past. You have the shutter button up top, the power/mode button on the side, the battery door on the other side, and the mounting points on the bottom. Up front there is the single lens and front screen and around the back is the 2.27” touch screen. The camera feels very solid and I’ve no doubt it can stand up to harsh conditions. With the Hero 13 they introduced a magnetic mounting system and the battery door can also now be replaced with new one that has a magnetic charging cable so you don’t have to open it to charge. Unfortunately neither of these things are included with the Hero 13, which feels like a bit of a disappointment considering how prominently they’re featured in the advertising and it would have been a great differentiator from the older Hero 12. Also new for the Hero 13 are a set of optional ND filters and lens mods that attach in place of the protective lens cover and I think these could really add something different to the experience. Eventually I do want to at least get the ND filters and another lens. Using the camera is pretty intuitive, especially for such a small a screen. I found the interface to be just a bit sluggish, but overall it’s easy to work with. You get a lot of choices in terms of how you want to record photos and videos in the menus without things getting overly complicated or hard to understand. I was able to get the basics of switching modes and settings down within the first 15-20 minutes of using this and I’ve never owned a GoPro in the past. Videos and photos both look great on the Hero 13. I found myself gravitating towards the ‘Linear’ modes for most of what I recorded to avoid the fisheye effect, but depending on what you’re recording it’s not that bad on wider settings. Photos and videos do get pretty grainy in darker settings though and the noise reduction is a little aggressive. I do wish the image sensor was a little bit larger like some of what the competitive action cams have done, but the reality is I’m probably mostly going to be using this in bright outdoor settings anyway and in general I was happy with what this camera put out and the colors look great. The HDR clips I captured in particular just look so good. The audio quality from the mic is okay but not great - something that can be augmented with yet another accessory or you can also connect a Bluetooth microphone. The battery life is pretty good and where I was generally recording at 4K or 5.3K at higher frame rates I was seeing maybe an hour or so of battery life. The battery for the Hero 13 is also new and a slightly higher capacity. I’ll definitely be purchasing at least an extra 1 or 2 batteries in the future though. Overall I think the Hero 13 is great, but in order to get the full experience you’ll need to be prepared to spend a bit more on all the mounts and accessories you want. Even with the GoPro subscription that discounts the accessories they can get to be very spendy directly from GoPro, but fortunately there’s a whole world of 3rd party accessories out there so you can save on a lot of them.

    Best GoPro Yet

I believe that GoPro has outdone themselves with the GoPro Hero 13 Black. Technology has come a long way since I got my previous GoPro (Hero 9 which had a fatal issue for my use - battery life). The Hero 13 has a new 1900 mAh Enduro battery that GoPro claims (I have not verified yet) will yield up to 2.5 hours of continuous recording. It also supports a magnetic-attach power cable that allows for the camera to be powered from any USB-C charging source. The Hero 13 supports 5.3K60, 4K120, 2.7K120, and 1080p240 video modes. It supports up to 400 fps for “semi high-speed” video. It is waterproof down to 33 feet for underwater work. While the Hero 13 supports digital zoom, it also supports HB series lenses with auto-detect for better shooting with no compromise to the recording resolution. Remarklable image stabilization, 10-bit color, and timecode sync support for multiple camera synchronization. Along with all of this, GoPro came up with a clever magnetic latch mount that allows easy movement of your Hero 13 Black between mounting setups. I did experience one glitch out-of-the-box. The camera was clearly marked that a firmware update was required, so I dutifully took the camera out of the box and opened the app to perform the update. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I tried for over one hour, to no avail. I suspect that GoPro's update servers might have been down (it was Saturday morning after all), because later in the day everything just worked as expected. Again, this is the high water mark for GoPro with the Hero 13 Black. It's an awesome camera with a breadth of features unlike any of its competitors.

More time to record adventures at a higher Res

The GoPro Hero 13 Black is the latest addition to GoPro’s excellent line of action cameras, and it absolutely lives up to the hype. It has plenty of advanced features and amazing performance, it captures great detail on both the photos and videos. First, it comes out of its box with a conscious mind, most if not all the packaging can be recycled. And I have taken it to a bicycle ride; I ran with it and also took pictures and video while hiking and here are my thoughts. so let me explain while I try to keep it short. The Hero 13 Black supports 5.3K video recording at 60 frames per second and with this high resolution not only does it show sharp and amazing detail on any adventure, it is flexible post production so you can show your videos on different social media platforms either landscape or portrait and they will look professional made. With the HB Series lenses that are available for the camera, I can be ready for different occasions, between the Macro lens mod, Ultra-Wide lens Mod, Anamorphic lens mod and the ND filter 4 pack they all enhance every occasion with their versatility. The GoPro’s HyperSmooth stabilization has been improved even more on the 13 Black. With HyperSmooth provides amazing stabilization, videos come out smooth and steady I took it cycling on a bumpy ride and it looks super smooth. I also like how easy it is to change from slow motion, to time-lapse to photo and regular video. The Hero 13 Black has also further improved the audio quality with the option to add an external microphone. This is a great feature for people like me, either while vlogging or creating content that need clear sound. I can use either AirPods, Bluetooth earbuds or just a wireless mic. It also records in stereo using its 3 microphones. With a 1900mAh Enduro battery the Hero 13 Black offers extended recording times in return there is more time to enjoy the adventure and less worry about the battery life. Up to 2.5 hours of continuous recording in 1080p, just keep in mind that this battery is not compatible with older GoPros. And something that helps charging without taking the battery off is the magnetic door and power cable kit, sold separately but available. As for connectivity, the inclusion of Wi-Fi 6 technology it is much faster, over 40 percent faster is a lot more. Also it connects via Bluetooth to connect as well as give it commands remotely using your voice. The GPS is just amazing, now I no longer have to try to match where I have taken the pictures or videos, the guessing is over specially when I am in visiting a new place. The camera supports Hybrid Log Gamma High Dynamic Range video so it delivers better video with good detail. Overall, there are many other functions to enjoy and while I try to keep my review short, I hope it helps you discover more functions, most of my previous GoPro accessories do fit the new GoPro 13 Black, except the batteries and there are other accessories that are new and I am happy to enjoy this upgrade, it is worth it.

I've always wanted a GoPro camera but I've always been hesitant about getting one not knowing exactly what I could use it for our wood use it for. After having this GoPro 13 for a week now I'm blown away at the picture and audio quality I've used this mounted to my hard head at work mounted to my vehicle during drives as well as taking it in my swimming pool. The picture quality of this is just incredible audio is shockingly good as well from such a small device. Battery life is great better than I expected out of such a small battery. The GoPro app is great for editing your videos and photos well you can download them to your phone or device or if you pay for the subscription you can upload it to GoPros cloud which I declined. There are so many accessories for these cameras it makes my head spin I got the short handheld stick for personal use when swimming I've also got a mount for my electric go track scooter. These little cameras are incredible the video quality of the 5K footage just looks great weather viewing it all my Samsung Galaxy tab S9 ultra or my 4K LG OLED TV. I definitely recommend getting one of these to anybody on the fence. I just hope it holds up because it's awesome to have I never knew I would use it as much as I do.

I bought this Gopro for the simple fact of wanting to record my dogs hunts. I didnt relize how versatile this product could be for just a daily use of someone who likes to keep memories of a lot of life events no matter how big or small. This gopro is extremely travel friendly, it is such a small product yet captures such beautiful large views. It is so easy to use, battery life seems to be great, as i only used it for videos so far, has a screen on the front and back so you can see yourself in the view. Highly recommend.

I was not as familiar with Action Cameras. I have seen them around. This was the first GoPro I was able to experience. The Build quality is amazing. It just feels durable and sturdy. For such a small lightweight action camera. It feels solid and now I understand why. What I enjoyed about the camera is it only comes with two buttons. One to change the 3 modes. The other is to record and take pictures. I like simplicity! The buttons have a distinct "click" so you know you are pressing them. The display screen is very precise. For such a small display it worked well. The slides to get to the menus never had hiccups. The screen felt crisp and smooth. The mode it comes in is set for the basic functions. You can turn the advanced mode on to get more functionality. You can change the resolution, frame rate, etc. The image quality is amazing for such a small form factor. It's perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. The microphone sound was also acceptable. This camera is capable of so much. Image quality outdoors should not be a problem. As long as you are not in low light. It has great video stabilization. It also has a feature for audio tuning. It comes with an app. The GoPro Quik App. It allows for more capability. You can do things on the go. You can control the Hero 13 through the app on your phone. There is even the capability for voice command! Now, the battery is one of the downsides. With this camera spitting out high resolutions. I didn't expect the battery to be that great. It's decent but it's not anything amazing. Also, the door to enclose the battery and micro SD card is a tight fit. I struggle to get it open. Yet, I'd rather it be tight than loose. Outside of those small issues, I'm still learning more about the GoPro Hero13! I'm still amazed you get so much performance in such a small package!

Worthy Upgrade or for a New Action Camera User

The Hero 13 Black is the latest in a long line of GoPro action cameras and, as always, there are a number of new features and innovations. One significant feature is something that was taken out of the Hero 12 Black and was probably restored due to popular demand: GPS support. It’s optional whether or not to enable it, but many people (myself included) find it to be very useful. As far as innovations go, the interchangeable lenses are the biggest deal, but since I only have the lens that came with the camera there’s nothing more for me to say at this time. Another has to do with some new available accessories. One is a magnetic mount that snaps to the bottom of the camera. This allows you to mount the camera using a standard GoPro mount but then quickly snap the camera itself off and on. There is also an available replacement side door that has contacts for supplying external power using a cable that snaps onto the outside of the door. This is superior to the older “USB pass-thru” door that was not watertight and allows the camera to be used with an external power pack while filming underwater or in other wet conditions. I’m not sure if this door is compatible with older cameras or not. You have to supply your own high-speed micro-SD card, and after installing that and the included (and larger) camera battery, the initial setup goes quickly, assisted by the “Quik” smartphone app. Once the latest software update is installed and a few other questions are answered, you are good to go! There are a lot of available settings for the camera and for each of the various modes that it operates in, but GoPro thoughtfully has the most commonly-used settings packaged up in what they call “Easy Controls” as opposed to the “Pro Controls”. The main capture modes for the camera are Photo, Video, and Time Lapse. I’ll be using the camera mostly for video and in the time I’ve had it that’s the only mode that I’ve explored in any detail, but I can see that Time Lapse could be fun to play with in the future. It even has a way to set the camera up overnight facing up to make a time-lapse video of “star trails” rotating across the sky. There are also some interesting video options such as the slow-motion capability. Slow motion in a video or film is done by shooting the scene at a higher frame rate than normal so that when it’s played back at normal speed it looks slowed down. The Hero 13 can shoot bursts of video at an astounding 240 frames per second; when played back at the standard 30fps the motion is slowed down by a factor of 8x! This can only be done in short bursts since it understandably tends to overheat the camera. After taking videos there are a number of options for how to save and/or edit them. The camera can be connected by USB to a computer for direct copying of the files, which are in MP4 format. It is also possible to have them automatically upload to the GoPro cloud service, although a subscription is necessary for that useful feature. The Quik app on a smartphone or tablet is another a good way to upload them and has a lot of decent editing features. The two limitations of these cameras are the storage size of the SD card and the battery capacity. The battery issue can be alleviated either by carrying extra batteries or by attaching a power bank to the USB port, which requires either a pass-thru door or the new magnetic connection door. There are an endless number of applications for an action camera, but I’m sure that mine is one of the less common. I got this mainly so that I can make videos from my bicycle that can be used to create rides for a popular indoor cycling app. When processed, users of the app worldwide will be able to ride my routes on their indoor bike trainers with the same effort that it takes to ride them “in real life”. This requires me to take video with 4K resolution and a 16:9 (Wide) aspect ratio at 60 frames per second with Hypersmoothing. That frame rate allows the app to speed up or slow down the playback according to the effort that the rider is exerting. GoPro Hero cameras are the only ones certified for taking these videos and the Hero 13 Black is the latest that’s been approved. I haven’t had time to film a full-length route as yet but my early testing has had excellent results. I’m especially impressed by the way that the “hypersmoothing” feature completely takes out the small bumps from the cracks and tar strips in the pavement and am looking forward to doing a full-length ride with the Hero 13 Black in the near future. No matter if you’re an experienced action camera user with an older model GoPro (or other brand) or are new to all this as I was, you can’t go wrong with this easy-to-use and powerful new product!

I got it open box and went to pick it up at an out of town best buy and the process was grueling. I had ordered it online and when I got to the store (despite the order saying it’d be ready that day) the employee said there was a hold on my order. I waited around until the store closed to see if the hold would be removed. When the clock hit 8 I got an email saying my order was canceled. The employee told me I could just purchase it again in person now that it was canceled, but because I had already paid for it once, I didn’t have enough money on my card. Luckily I had brought my girlfriend with me and she paid for it and I paid her back a few days later when the money got refunded. Its an awesome product, but I have to say I hate online orders to in person pick up. As for the GoPro itself, I love it. I have used it many times for swimming, diving, surfing, and soon sailing. Image quality is amazing. Battery life is stellar. Amazing product.

I recently picked up the GoPro Hero 13 Black to start live streaming my son’s baseball games, and I couldn’t be happier with both the product and the experience at the Woodbridge Best Buy. The camera is incredibly easy to use—even for someone who’s not a tech expert. Setup was simple, the touch screen is responsive, and the live stream feature worked flawlessly right out of the box. But what really stood out was the staff at the Woodbridge location. They were patient, knowledgeable, and made sure I left with everything I needed—from the right mounts to a power solution for longer recordings. They walked me through the setup and gave helpful tips to get the best stream quality. Big thanks to the team there for making it all so seamless!

Upgraded from the Hero 8. Friends have the 10 and 11. Noth with different features. Demo on the 12 was pretty cool. Decided to pull the trigger on the 13. Stabilization software is incredible. Tested between the 11 and 13 on several downhill biking trails and am thoroughly impressed by the 13. The 11 does a great job, but the battery life is way shorter than the 13. My friend decided to upgrade after our ride. Now we both have the 13 and enjoy the smooth footage of our rides. Only gripe with the 13 is accessory compatibility. Older mounts tend to not be as compatible and this may be due to the shorter folding legs. Otherwise, best camera I have purchased since Hero 4.

Fantastic upgrade over by GP Hero 5. Love the video quality and ease of control in the app. Battery life significantly improved also. Caught it on sale and received an extra battery too!

The GoPro Hero13 is an impressive piece of technology. Its seamless integration with the app makes managing footage effortless, and the live broadcast feature is a game-changer for capturing and sharing moments in real-time. The remote trigger adds incredible convenience, especially for dynamic shooting scenarios. The camera is well-built, durable, and packed with modern, innovative features. While the subscription is required for some advanced features, it enhances the overall experience, making it well worth it for enthusiasts.
