I had always wanted the GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition but i never had the need for one because of the FPS lack and IS issues, from using this handheld, the IS seems to be a lot better and the FPS at 1080 is interesting. This is what i'm going to say right off the bat, if you want to get STARTED with using manual controls, this camera is probably one of your best bet. You can't control aperture or exact iso but setting the limit and adjusting low lighting based on location as well as the white balance option should give you insight into (digital) filmmaking issues. Using it with my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and there is image lag but its bearable, i use pro tune so i don't get a constant image, some people don't realize this but it is severely new on the market and there will be bugs or lack of out of box updates. when i got it out of the awesome packaging, I felt like this camera couldn't replace anything i currently have ( i have BMPCC and a Canon T5i with numerous lenses ) and i primarily bought this as a slow motion camera because the 1080 is 120fps and the WVGA is 240 fps (similar to 720p) and slowing it down in post is phenomenal. as long as you do it with a different program than the go pro studio, the sound stays with slow-motion making it a better experience. The optional accessories for the whole series are what basically make this camera, that and the size. It is smaller than my pocket cinema camera and has the option for 4k, will i use it? probably not that much but I may find a few uses for 4k, probably to compensate for the lack of zoom. Do i love this camera from the 2 days i have had it? YES. I am on my way back to best buy for more mounts for this bad boy and hopefully will have a decent amount of footage to justify my purchase. I had planned to use this camera for a wedding at some point. i may look funny but the bride will appreciate the idea. I don't see a use for anyone who isn't into filmmaking or action sports but i do see a potential starter tool for entry level (if you want to get serious). The phone app is great though, ill get back to this. it works with my galaxy tab s and note 3 amazingly, the picture quality is lackluster but again, its more for framing than anything. it also saves you the money for the 70$ LCD backpack which i plan on getting later on around the holidays. I also plan on using the FETCH mount for my pooch zoey when she goes to the dog parks and i want to use slow motion for that, as well as getting one of the drones and flying over niagara falls. that one is going to be risky but i do have the Geeksquad protection and this is the only camera that is covered from complete submersion in water (most aren't for obvious reasons). as for ports, it has onboard HDMI which is a cool feature but not necessary for me, and it has the MicroSD card slot near the USB transfer cable slot. It came with a cable but not a wall charger, which i thought was weird but it charged on the computer so i can't complain. It says i should get an hour of filming on the battery alone so i may also invest in the battery backpack if this becomes problematic. Just owning one of these i feel like i should go Skydiving. I edit using FCP X and DaVinci Resolve on my Macbook Pro 13.3", which i also bought from best buy. I wish that best buy sold black magic cameras, i would have bought it from them because I LOVE GEEK SQUAD! GoPro might be a little pricey, but it is worth every penny!!
