Great video recording features but the connectivity options are horrible. They do not make sense. If I’d done more research, I would have bought a different product. The headphone adapter that is sold separately is a $50 propietery part that has an awkward shape and is hard to use. Minimal Bluetooth capability. They do well to generate a profit but the next generation of action camera equipment that I get will NOT be from this brand.

Go Pro Hero 7 The Body is the same as the 6 but the internals/options have been upgraded somewhat. An additional 1 GB of memory has been added as well. Initial impression: Very impressed with the solid feel to the 7, Very rugged and seems to be able to withstand about everything you could throw at it. I charged the battery and installed it along with the SD card and formatted it. (128 GB Name brand card) Do not be fooled by cheap knock off SD cards on certain big chain sites. Get a certified name brand fast SD card or your great action shots from vacation might not be there for you when you get back. The 7 is water/dust /dirt proof. (Up to 33 ft. deep) Should you need more depth in the water the Hero 5, 6, or 7 water tight housing is needed. One thing I highly recommend is getting the PLUS after purchasing. This allows you 35 hours of cloud video, thousands of pictures and direct upload when you are in a Wi-Fi area. Also this gives you unit protection. If anything happens to your GoPro, just send it back in (no questions asked) and get a new one all for $4.99 a month, no contract. This is a no brainer for those who enjoy extreme sports or mount the 7 on their car/bike/boat etc. I also purchased the quick charge battery charger and extra battery, as should everyone who travels with the 7. It would be a shame to have the battery fail or drain while out in the field. After formatting the card the camera setup was a breeze. I love the touch screen. This is leaps and bounds better than the Hero 2 that this unit was replacing. I then downloaded the Go pro app along with the companion Quik app. The phone found and paired itself to my camera in less than 10 seconds. You can also load a “Quik” desktop app BUT this is only available for Windows 10 64 bit and up. I then ran it through the paces of each setting and tested it and was impressed. One thing to be aware of. The default setting is a 4:3 so you have to change it to Wide screen before recording if this for Widescreen TV viewing. I started off on the Camera option, I tried, HDR and Raw, Burst and FOV (wide and linear). The pictures came out very nice and crisp. But for a 12 mp I thought it could be better, maybe it will after a few updates down the road. I also like the fact that I can take the raw picture and import them into my Adobe and further adjust them to my liking. Then to time-lapse, you can choose to set it from .5 seconds up to 60 seconds depending on your subject. This offers great versatility for about every shooting condition. Refer to the instructions for a chart for shooting settings or hints. The results of this test were really good, almost cinematic. The photos when stitched together and played offer great videos. Especially when you do a sunup/sundown or storm rolling in! And finally video. I always leave the setting (low light) on just in case I should need it when filming. This does make a difference. (Also consumes more battery) The stabilization is the best I have seen. (I have a competitor’s 360 model as well) The Hero 7 is indeed Gimbal like. When walking running or using it on a rough road on my Mustang it all comes out very smooth. I suggest playing with the video settings before heading out to use it in the field. There is a multitude of resolution setting for video, 4K, 2.7K, 1440 and 1080. All offer their individual tweaks as well. I try to leave on the Protune selection when it is available as this does some in-house color correction and fine tuning I have found it to be better than standard mode but again. I would play with all settings to find your best result. When you are finished and would like to have something to show quick, just have the go pro do a quik story. This sends the footage to your phone and edits with video effects and music. Something for you on the fly. Kinda neat. If you are advanced in the photo/video area the 7 allows you to take full control over certain settings such as, Audio (clean up wind noise), Sharpness, white balance, color, and exposure if you need to. If live streaming is for you the 7 does this. Just start recording and use your phone to select live stream and connect the app to you Facebook account to start. It was great to be able to use one of 16 voice commands to do most all work. NOTE: you can set an option to wake on command that will be available for up to 8 hrs. I love this option especially when I have the go pro mounted to my helmet/Roll bar or chest mount. I also leave the beeps on this way I know when my unit is on or has received the command. The hyperlapse option is only available with certain frames per second. This is easy to see in settings when you go through them when setting up. I found this to be very cool and seamless with the 7 new Gimbal like stabilization. When I compared this with my 360 camera, a friends knock off go pro (junk) and my Hero 2. The 7 came out the clear winner in every category. I would recommend this to any outdoor adventurer.
