This is our first Go Pro camera, and its been alot of fun to use so far The menus are a bit different to get through, and, the battery door can be a problem to open and close, but the photo/video quality is top notch, its easy to use the Android app and control the camera that way, and the size/portability is fantastic! If you dont have one of these, you need to add it to your camera arsenal!

Just What You'd Expect from GoPro

I see a lot of reviews have gone into depth, so I will not bore you with another review of technical details. This is the first GoPro I’ve owned even though I’ve contemplated a purchase for a very long time. But it’s exactly what I expected when I thought GoPro. A simple, rugged machine that takes amazing video! And when I say amazing, I mean Ah - MAZ – ING!!! If you’re looking for a Go Pro to take still videos, that’s like looking to buy a Ferrari to haul a horse trailer. It’s simply not made for that. The GoPro is made for fast moving video. The revamped stabilization feature creates freakishly smooth video. I will admit that having no experience prior to this, it took me a while to figure out how to use it since the instructions in the box are bare bones. Youtube videos help a lot! It does come with a USB-C charging cable, but that’s it. Make sure you buy a memory card and have the proper power plug to get power to the USB-C for charging and of course any accessories you would like as well. Cell phones can’t hold a match to what this thing can do with video. And speaking of which, if you’re looking to take pictures, that’s precisely what the cellphone is capable of! Don’t attempt to order a hamburger at a sushi joint!

Ended up returning this one. Not sure if this was a defective model or the issue of the unit heating up is something that is to something to be expected. Back to taking videos on the phone now.

Broke 10 minutes after we opened it. The little door that closes over where the charger plugs in broke off right after opening it and nest buy won't take it back or fix it.

Connections are the worst. You have to use wifi to control through your phone and you have limited options and functions without the app so you can only use it at home??? Absolute waste, I'm returning it tomorrow.

Hero7 Black: Feels Like a Giant Leap Forward

The GoPro Hero7 Black looks a lot like the Hero6, uses the same image sensor and processor, same solid construction and waterproofing, but feels like a whole new camera. The hardware has been changed very little, but the changes make for a significant improvement in capabilities. There are a whole host of new features that make this a significantly more powerful and useful camera. Top of the list is "Hypersmooth", a new image stabilization mode that provided near gymbal quality stabilization. It really does provide a much smoother video image. It was truly stunning. While we're at it, the video quality is improved with much better color saturation and sharpness. The latest firmware update added 4K/60fps hypersmooth stabilization, making 4K/60fps video actually usable(unlike the Hero6). Yay! There are some new resolutions available as well, with some odd choices for 4:3 video. But the default 1440P/60fps worked very well and seemed an excellent compromise. The new TimeWarp video, which everyone else calls hyperlapse, works much better than the Hero6 time-lapse, and eliminates the frame by frame strobe effect. There is also a new UI which is much simpler and more intuitive. In the new UI GoPro has added a Timed Clip feature, to record a short 15 or 30 second clip. They have added a self timer for photos that has been a feature in cameras for the last 50 years, but missing until the Hero7. And, Thank You!, they added a portrait orientation, turn the camera 90 degrees and the image rotates just like a smart phone. Still photos seem much more saturated and color true, and there is a new SuperPhoto mode that is kinda like HDR on steroids. It doesn't smear action photos the way HDR can. Pretty cool. The audio is also much improved, there was almost no wind noise while recording on a road bike and seems much clearer. The voice command response seemed to improve with each firmware update. I didn't try the livestreaming, but it is available in 720p only, with backhaul through your phone or a wifi network. But it's there. And the Hero7 Black really is black, with a big 7 on the side; the funky grey is gone. Battery life was between an hour to an hour and a half, using the same batteries as the Hero6. I should say I was using it with the Android app, which worked very well. The in app advertising is a little annoying, but can be ignored. The only real negative for me was having to remove the Hero7 from its mounting frame to change or charge the battery. Would have been nice to be able to at least charge without disassembling things. Overall, GoPro has a winner on their hands. The Hero7 is a lot of fun, easy to use, versatile, and with significant improvements over the Hero6. Some really big features and lots of little tweaks make this the new action cam standard to beat..

    Best GoPro I've Ever Had

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is by far the best tuned up and professional little camera I've had. GoPro had fixed critical little details that deserve an applause. The 1080p240 and 2.7k120 modes have much better detail and the aliasing has been minimized when shooting high frame rate video (In case you wanted to watch back on a high refresh monitor). This camera takes beautiful pictures making the need to get a DSLR almost useless. But the camera has Hypersmooth stabilization at up to 60fps, while standard stabilization goes up to 120fps in 1080p. But the colors when shoot video does not go haywire in certain light settings and is stable unlike the Hero 6 Black. This camera is definitely a must for realistic video that looks as if you are actually in the scene at high refresh rate. The $424 price is pretty acceptable for a camera that beats DSLR settings and takes 'Slow-Mo' settings at normal speed with WAYYY better audio that the Hero 6 Black! The audio is so much better on this camera than the last model, which GoPro really needed to work on! But yes, this camera like every GoPro takes 'Slow-Mo' video at normal speed with audio and you can customize your settings, and watch back on a quality gaming monitor up to 240hz!

I have used GoPro Black cameras for several years now and the GoPro Black 7 is definitely worth an upgrade. I have taken the camera on a few mountain bike rides and the video stabilization is definitely improved over the previous version. I’m also looking forward to using the GoPro while flying small aircraft, GoPro is without a doubt the defecto professional camera for recording video on the go no matter what you’re doing or where you are. Whether you’re a pilot, mountain biker, base jumper or just a mom or dad wanting to video the kids in beautiful 4K 60 frames per second video, this is the camera for you. Simply amazing that GoPro gets all this tech into such a small package.
