Bought this as a gift for the husband ❤️He loves it!

Quality is excellent, although it is a little laggy

The battery last for two hours. I am not sure if they are all like that, but it almost made me ask for my money back. But we just kept it instead of hassling with it. We got the chest holder and some other extention as well. Overall, it's ok. Just, OK.

Heats up super fast, batteries die fast, and color grading can be a challenge with older GoPros. Also if you use the media mod with a tripod you have to take everything apart just to swap out the battery...great delight GoPro

The GoPro Hero8 Black looks a lot like the Hero7, and really represents an incremental rather than monumental change. It basically offers all the features of the Hero7 and more. The biggest changes are physical. The Hero8 eliminates the need for a separate mounting frame with built-in, foldable mounting fingers that are magnetically secured when folded. The front lens no longer protrudes prominently from the camera. There is only one door for the battery, MicroSD card, and usb connector with a new latch design. The built-in micro hdmi connnector is gone. The battery is the same form factor as the Hero7 (and 6, 5) but has a higher voltage (4.4v vs 3.8v) to enable some of the higher frame rate features. The new Hero8 battery can be used in the Hero7 or 6, and the old battery can be used in the Hero8, but some higher frame rate features become disabled. The new battery provides the same amp-hour rating as the old battery. The Hero8, thanks to the new, higher voltage battery, provides HyperSmooth 2.0 stabilization at all frame rates, including 4K/60fps and 1080/240fps. The new stabilization is a touch better than the Hero7 in side by side comparisons. There is a boost mode that provides even more stabilization at the cost of a small amount of frame cropping. The one downside is that the battery life seems to be a little worse than the Hero7. The stills (photo) capability improved as well, both in quality and function. While it's not going to replace a dedicated camera, or even a high end phone, it's useful when you are out in tough conditions. Image quality shows more dynamic range and color saturation than the Hero7 and there is a new 'LiveBurst' mode which captures 1.5 sec of images before and after the shutter press. It allows you to select the best still in the range. The menu system changed a little bit. Not significantly from the Hero7, but enough to make it a little easier and quicker to navigate. There are 10 presets for different video settings so you can easily pre-program the settings you want and switch from say 4K/60fps to 2.7K/120fps with one flick. It's also now possible to change the functions of the four shortcut buttons to meet your specific needs. There are also some new video and editing tricks, but I still prefer to handle editing post-production. The front mounted mic does seem to handle wind noise better. I use the Hero8 either handlebar or helmet mounted on a road bike and the audio is much cleaner. The other big change is the 'Mod' capability, which is coming sometime in 2020. The Mod capability seems to be oriented towards the vlogging/livestreaming crowd. And speaking of livestreaming, the Hero8 will support livestreaming in 1080p, up from the Hero7's 720p. Overall, GoPro has a winner on their hands with the Hero8. Simply being able to change or charge the battery without pulling the camera out of a frame is a big deal. While I don't think I would have bought a Hero8 simply to upgrade from a Hero7, the choice of the Hero8 over the Hero7 for a new camera was a no-brainer, even with the Hero7 selling at a discount.

This action camera is amazing for shooting in bright daylight situations. If you have to use camera in ANY lowlight situation, it is absolutely garbage. Buyer beware. Do research on what this camera is meant for!

I was dissatisfied with this purchase because of the glitches early on. it wouldn't stay on and had to do so much troubleshooting. don't have a high expectation for the long run. but great video. wish I would have waited for new gopro.

The battery dies to fast, cannot get it my SD card to work. Also wasn’t advised to get the SD card found out when I got home. I also asked the assistance and she was like oh no you don’t need it..

I returned this item. Did not like the fact it did NOT have a removable lense cap/cover. I also had a heck of a time getting it to pair to my phone/tablet. Evidently they fixed this in a firmware update just after I returned it. Oh well....got a Hero 7 instead.

Great camera, but wish the battery life was longer.

I just spent over $500 for this 8 Black along with a half dozen accessories, including the dual battery charger. Set everything up and inserted both batteries in the dual charger. 7 hours later they were still showing orange. Left and came back several hours later and they were charged, but don't know how long it took. They were plugged into a dedicated USB charger, not being charged through the laptop. Inserted a bettery into the 8 and powered it up with the battery showing 100%. 20 minutes later after registering the unit, downloading the App, swiping through the setup screens and generally playing around with it, I noticed the battery level was at 12%. 12%?? After 20 minutes?? Are you kidding me? I have a 7 year old hero 3+ Black that performs better than this. I put the second battery in the unit and charged the first again and went out to run some test videos and stills just to get the hang of if. 30 minutes later the battery level is 17%. Google hero 8 battery life and you get hundreds of hits and the gopro forum people feed you the same corporate line about compatible SD cards and firmware updates and it's all smoke and mirrors. One battery bad out of the box? Possible. Not likely, but Possible. Two batteries bad? One from the main unit and the other a random extra battery purchase? Now you're looking at lottery winning odds. Sorry Best Buy, but you're getting this back. This is not what I paid for and not at all what I expected.

Please do not buy a GoPro. I have a GoPro Session that I bought sometime in 2017. I rarely used it since I moved. I wanted to do something with my GoPro and for the 5th or 10th time using it, the camera overheated. I let it cooled down and when I tried to pair it on my phone, it will not connect to the app. I tried using the recording feature and it overheated again within minutes. I called GoPro support and the representatives asked me to try every possible option and nothing worked. I must say the GoPro representatives were very nice but they couldn't helped me after trouble shooting. Don't be surprise when you spend hundreds of dollars on these GoPro products and later on it's essentially useless whether you use the product a lot or not. GoPro advertise how amazing, durable, wonderful gadget this is and yet, I'm really disappointed how quickly this thing can be so useless in such a short amount of time. Junk!

Solid action camera overall, I bought it because of its ability for the mods because it was going to be the first gopro where you could actually see yourself while you record. A year later that display mod just came out. By this point i by far recommend the 9 over the 8 of you were wanting that front screen
