This is my first GoPro or action camera of any kind and I'm not even close to having tried out all the features it offers, but I've seen enough to know how I'll use it and what it does well. I don't imagine it will be the king of this particular hill for long, but the built-in stabilization is, frankly, incredible. I think that's the feature that will make you buy one of these and I can't imagine you'll be disappointed. You can pretty much use this handheld and it looks like you're using a stabilizer. Amazing. As the owner of a weight-balanced stabilizer for a DSLR, I can't express how much more convenient it is to simply grab this and shoot. The results are pure wizardry. And it all fits in my pocket. It's so tiny! Other things I like: love love love being able to customize shortcuts on the display for quick access to things like shutter speed, ISO, etc. Ditto the presets that make big changes a quick two taps away. I also really, really dig that there are different digital "lenses," which can be utilized with a simple touch to provide a completely unique perspective. Having a hardware button that makes it quick and painless to switch between time lapse, video, and photo modes is fantastic. And speaking of time lapse... this device makes them fun. I don't know why or how, but I find the results to be a huge improvement over what I've captured from a cell phone on this front. I haven't even tweaked the settings in this mode; it just works. Adding a button to quickly imitate speed ramping is super duper cool as well. Very smart! And, on the whole, I really like all the footage that I've captured. There's a tendency to overblow bright skies if you don't cap the max ISO, but other than that I find the general look very pleasing and fun. Nitpicks: the packaging. I found everything about the unboxing experience difficult. I felt like I was aging 50 years trying to get the camera out, get the battery door open, get the memory card out of its package, etc. There's a little card with some illustrations of how to get up and running, but I'm sorry - there needs to be a bit more explanation about how to open the battery door open. (I promise this is not the first time I've ever used a digital camera, it just felt like it.) And speaking of... I'm a bit pessimistic about the little film tab on the battery being something that will last a long time. If it breaks, then getting the battery out seems like it will be a nightmare and you have to remove the battery to get to the microSD card. Seems like it's going to get a lot of use. But hey, thank you GoPro for making the charging input USB-C. Nice to be able to charge it using my phone charger. BUT! It would be great if we could see the battery percentage while charging on the front display. Lastly, man it would be great if there was a standard tripod mount option included in the box or on the device itself. I don't think that's asking too much. Oddly enough though, I noticed by accident the other night that the bottom of the camera has some magnets somewhere. Not sure if they're strong enough to, say, attach to something like a car but just throwing that out there. I'm sure there's some use for it. Anyway, fun device that's cheaper and smaller than most cell phones. If there was some way to attach lenses and add more depth of field variation it would be a really powerful filmmaking tool for a ton of different use cases. I'm sure those days aren't far off.

I like my new Hero8. Why can't the instructions be bigger? I have two Hero2's that work really good. I'm getting ready to go the beach and can't wait to use it. But, I have to learn how to use it. I think next time I may be looking at a different action camera?
