Hero8 turned on by itself & overheated. Returned it, bought hero 7. Hero 7 froze for over an hour. Returned it. Advice to BB: stop buying poor quality Chinese products. Buy well-made, better quality, American products.

The most fun I've had with a video camera

I'm the type of person who documents life all around me on a daily basis. I take dozens of photos and videos every day. I've owned several cameras in my lifetime, and I always carry the newest smartphone with the latest camera technology in my pocket. I have to admit, that this past week with the Go Pro Hero 8 Black on me at all times has made shooting video so much fun for me. There is endless possibilities to the type of footage you can capture everyday with this little camera. I started asking myself, why have I never purchased one of these in the past? I didn't think my life was exciting enough to justify owning a GoPro. I'm not very athletic, and I would never dare to go sky diving lol. But in all honesty, this is probably the best way to capture everyday moments in your life. I've used it to record beautiful sunset time-lapse videos, while playing out in the yard with the nephews, and even took it into a mosh pit at a concert lol. There is sooooo many possibilities with this awesome camera. The super view mode provides such an awesome field of view that it makes for amazing interesting footage, no matter what you are doing. I want to carry it with me everywhere and anywhere. I could ramble on and on about how great it is for just about any scenario, but let's talk about the GoPro itself. The Hero 8 Black is built very tough and with excellent build quality. I don't know what the housing is made of but it looks and feels like magnesium alloy. It is tough and I think it will probably take a good beating. The one thing that boggles my mind is the lens housing, I think it's plastic? Sure doesn't feel like glass. GoPro says it is the toughest ever, but i worry that over time the material will get scratched and it doesn't look like you can easily replace it on your own. Other than that, the GoPro does feel like its built like a baby tank. The battery cover is very tough, and actually a little hard to open and close ( understandably) as it provides an excellent seal against dust/dirt/snow/water/ whatever you want to throw at it.The buttons are all well placed and responsive. My favorite new feature is that the mounting bracket is built into the GoPro now, you no longer need to put the GoPro in a mount shell. The lil arms easily protrude when you need to mount it, and just as easily tuck away nicely and neatly into the body of the GoPro. The front facing screen provides plenty of info while recording or playing back footage. The touchscreen on the back is quite responsive as well. It can be a little finicky trying to swipe and dig around the menus with it though. I prefer to and recommend that you use the GoPro app on your phone to change settings and playback footage. The app is much more responsive and easier to use on your phone and the GoPro connects to it quick and easy. The app makes operation and media transfers quick and seamless. I highly recommend this to anyone that loves shooting videos in any scenario. It really is perfect for any situation. Vlogging, musicians, athletes, kiddos, driving, walking, anything! The hyper smooth 2.0 is a game changer and when paired with that amazing ultra wide angle. Mwuah! Amazing, crisp, stable 4k 60 videos! I love it. No other camera or smart phone is as fun to record memories with. I can't wait to get my hands on the new modules coming for this camera. Pros: Built like a tank so many accessories available and more to come! software is excellent, especially when paired with a smartphone 4k 60fps!! and it is so crisp and stable. Even while jogging or driving on bumpy roads! I could go on and on and on, just buy it! You'll love it I promise! Cons: Plastic lens protective cover. (im afraid it'll scratch easy)

GoPro Quik does not support the GoPro Back 8 currently, so you cannot access the telemetry data from your videos without purchasing third-party software.

This is my first foray into the GoPro world and so far I’m impressed. Used it on a scenic bike ride with friends and was impressed with the vídeo quality. Definitely wish I had this on my zip lining excursion in Mexico or snorkeling in the Caribbean during an all day yacht trip this past June. Fairly simple to use and has some great stabilization from what I can tell from my bike ride. Will be interesting to see how it works on more intense adventures. Definitely a great way to capture amazing memories without worrying about not being present (versus trying to capture everything with a regular camera or your phone while missing the real moment).

Unable to know how well it will work, as we have tried 3 different microSD chips (all models recommended by the manufacturer) and have just gotten an error message every time. Going to exchange it and try again. Be aware that microSD card necessary is not included.

Took this camera snorkeling. Camera claims to be waterproof up to 10 meters. I stayed on the surface the entire time. Water got in camera. Now it doesn’t work. I’ve tried contacting GoPro. Every time I get to next in line on hold, they tell me no agents are available and they disconnect.

Camera would not turn on 24 hours after purchase. Information window said "powering on", camera was warm to the touch, nothing beyond that. Also, app wouldn't load to my phone. Tried multiple times. App page said download was "pending" for 9 hours. Took it back for a refund. Very disappointing.

HyperSmooth 2.0 is LEGIT for Mountain Biking

    — HyperSmooth 2.0 — The Hero 7 Black brought about Hypersmooth 1.0 stabilization which was good, but still didn’t replace a gimbal. The Hero 8 Black can replace a gimbal. Seriously. The Hero 8 Black comes with Hypersmooth 2.0 which has 4 modes: off, Normal (1.0), High (2.0), and then a Boost 2.0 mode. The normal setting seems to be about the same level of stabilization that you get out of the Hero 7 Black where as the High and Boost take things up a notch. With the Normal and High setting, you’ll get about a 10% crop on the sensor since it’s using software-based stabilization. Unless you are actually wanting some shake in your footage, the High setting works great for running and smoother mountain biking. The Boost setting is for those situations where things get really rough and you want to smooth out your footage considerably. The Boost setting has about a 25% crop but the level of stabilization really is gimbal-like. — Interface — The Hero 8 Black also brings about some improved UI such as capture profile presets which allow you to have predefined settings that you can assign to a profile so you can quickly change numerous settings at one time. Along with that are on-screen shortcuts for settings that you may change often such as turning off or on HyperSmooth Boost. What’s great is that you can have different shortcuts for different capture profiles. Neat. — TimeWarp 2.0 — TimeWarp 2.0 has a very cool feature where you can tap a little icon on the screen during a time-lapse and it will go in to real-time recording which is SUCH A COOL feature which allows you to capture real-time footage in the case where something compelling were to happen while in a time warp - so you don’t have to stop the time-lapse to then record video, then switch back to time-lapse. — Hardware — The Hero 8 Black is the first GoPro in generations to actually change it’s form factor so none of the old cages will work with the 8. However, the good news is that the mounts are integrated into the body itself. I say “integrated” rather than “built-in” because they are in fact removable/replaceable in the case that you were to break either of the fingers off, but the mounting fingers are made of metal. Overall, the Hero 8 Black is a solid update to the Hero 7 Black. I think it’s a much more substantial upgrade than the 7 was to the 6. The stabilization is legit and for you mtn bikers out there, this truly can replace a gimbal.
