I'd shy away from the Hero 8. I realize that the Hero 12 is out now, but given the opportunity to purchase this, I'd stay away. I bought it last year on sale / gift card and hadn't even taken it out of the box until my cruise this last weekend. It's rated to go roughly 30' deep in the water. On a snorkeling adventure (forced to wear life jackets), I took the GoPro Hero 8 into the water at a depth of roughly 2 - 4 feet. Within minutes the screen went black and shortly after that it ceased to function. Customer support said that even though I hadn't used it, it's past the 1 year mark and they would offer me a 15% discount to buy another one. So my initial purchase is a nice paper weight. If you plan to buy this, do not go in the water. It's not water proof as stated.

Its my first GoPro and i do really love the picture and how easy the App is to use. However this thing drains battery like crazy. Hard to recommend unless you have extra batteries, liķe 2-3 at least.

My 9-year-old uses this all the time to film trick shot videos and fun adventures. Durable, It works just fine after a couple of falls. He loves this, we all love this! We gave this for a very special birthday gift and it might be his favorite gift ever

Great value for your money as this edition is a little older but still does everything I want it to.

Camera is good and app is good as well. Battery looses charge when not in use and camera overheats.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son. It broke nearly immediately (faulty battery, then firmware got corrupted while following instructions from support). Best Buy had no stock to replace it with so I went through the manufacturer. They replaced it with a Hero9, but it didn't arrive for a month. Hero8 was disappointing, Best Buy was ok I guess. GoPro made it right (albeit slowly)

Doesn’t shoot well in moderate or low light settings, 16 days after purchase, hero 9 went on sale! Was not able to exchange and obviously now would prefer the hero 9. Sometimes camera shuts down and have to override to res start, however, Overall it’s a decent little camera and gets the job done!

It’s a good camera but my only issue is that the battery drains really fast

I bought this camera to record onboards of my races and it does the job as you would hope. Great footage good audio and easy to get up and running.
