I understand this scooter is being advertised as a commuter's companion. But my kids and I have not commuted anywhere except to a state of enjoyment. The GoTrax XR Advance commuting electric scooter is just marvelous, and if I could give it six stars, I would.
Out of the box, set up is quick and painless, taking less than 15 minutes. The design and build quality exude sophistication, and each inch appears to be well crafted from durable materials. The unit will collapse, making it portable for public transit, trunks, or other areas with restrictive space. The XR has a lithium-ion polymer battery that provides formidable power production and long lasting battery life when at max use. The specifications stated that the unit would go up to 15.5 miles per hour, has an operating range of 12 miles, and would operate for 4.5 hours on a single charge. Our experience holds true. However, I did not fully test the total achievable miles. That said, the battery will last, and the top speed is correct. I felt like a good operating mile per hour was about 6 to 9 miles per hour for maximum distance to speed to battery ratio. The unit boasts a 220 pound weight capacity, and at just over that I can attest that it will run for extended periods of time. I will note that when I am riding it, as opposed to one of my much smaller teenage children, the batteries did deplete faster, and I could not hit max speed on flat ground or uphill compared to their operating experiences. The battery will recharge quickly and provide user reliability. The unit is equipped with a bright headlight, a tiny bell, and only a rear reflector. The pneumatic tires offer some concern with regard to flats, but they do provide better shock absorption and offer a better ride. The brake is tight and will stop a dime, so driver beware!
In conclusion, this scooter offers the urban commuter a balance of ease of use, performance, price, and product weight when carrying the unit. I am sure this scooter will meet and exceed your expectations, whether for business or leisure.

When I first saw pictures of the GoTraz XR Advance Electric Scooter, I thought that it was going to be more of a kids scooter rather than an adults.
The pictures make it seem like it’s skinnier and lighter weight than it really is. This electric scooter is good enough for an adult rider that weighs no more than 220lbs, the scooter itself weighs approximately 27 pounds, not super lightweight, but not heavy either.
Overall the XR Advance is very well-made. Made of metal, rubber and plastic, by no means is this scooter flimsy. the top speed is about 15 miles per hour, but that’s it, Don’t expect more. I really like the scooter to keep in the trunk of my car and commute the rest of the way to work. What used to be a 15 minute walk to work is now a fun three minutes.
When folded, it is very compact and will fit in the trunk of just about any vehicle. Since it doesn’t weigh a ton, putting it in and taking it out is easy. I really like the way it folds, I feel like the whole locking mechanism is very Intuitive.
I’m very experienced with scooters and assembling them. This one took me about five minutes, not very difficult at all… make sure to read the instructions first.
Overall, this is a no-frills electric scooter, and in a way it does the bare minimum, it has a small display screen, only one brake, and the rear tire guard flimsy. But the good thing is that overall it is built very well built and it’s very budget friendly. For commuting and going a couple miles at a time, this scooter is more than capable of getting you there.

I’ve enjoyed feeling the wind in my hair again. This scooter is quite nice. From the moment you open the box and quickly put it together, you can sense that it’s a good quality scooter. Of course with every battery operated thing, you have to let it fully charge. But this one had a full battery out of the box. I still put it to charge for a while before operating. That was the toughest part…the wait, lol.
It has disc brakes, which was a new one for me. I thought that was a nice and welcomed feature. Now be super gentle with the brakes. They are quite responsive. It has a handbrake like the ones you find on a bicycle.
Operating it is fairly easy. You push yourself to catch some speed and push down on the throttle to control your speed. There’s just one part that I’ve struggled with and that’s the cruise control. I haven’t been able to set it to go the speed I would like. I may not be doing it right but it says hold down for 10 secs. I’ve tried so many ways and it could be user error but I haven’t figured it out. That’s ok, it’s still a pretty fun and smooth ride. I’ve been able to max out at 15.5 mph going up a slight incline.
It doesn’t look or feel inferior. It has a bright headlight if needed. The small digital screen gives you your speed in large enough numbers so you can clearly see. It’s not too heavy that it’s difficult to lift but it isn’t lightweight either. It folds away nicely for storage.

An incredible value that performs well

I've been a fan of GoTrax for a few years now. We have an electric bike by them that has been a blast. It hasn't faulted at all—especially the battery, which has held its power for as long as we've owned it. Many times, the more you charge a battery, the less time it takes before it depletes. That's what I've been most impressed with the bike.
So when we unboxed this scooter, we knew what we were in for regarding quality. This scooter isn't made to be the best, the "best in class." It's made for those who don't need it for commuting across town but enjoy riding it around your neighborhood or within a reasonably short distance. It has a 12-mile rated battery. You may think, "Oh, well, twelve miles is long enough!" Well, I can assure you, in most cases, it is, but you'll soon realize how quickly six miles can go by when riding it, and then you must remember you must ride six miles back.
For $300, the value is here. This thing is fantastic for what it would cost for some excellent earbuds. This thing will get you around nicely. The 15-mile-per-hour max speed is plenty fast for you on a scooter. GoTrax makes versions that go faster (and longer), but this one works well for a scooter. We last used an electric scooter in Austin, Texas; riding around the town was fun. You'll get the same feeling with this one.
Assembly is easy, too—only a few steps. Just remember to hook up the brakes before you tighten the screws back into the handlebar shaft. If not, it's not a huge deal, but you'll have to unscrew them again to put the brake line into the holding slot so the wire is managed well.
All in all, I'm impressed with this version. If I could do it all over again, I would probably get the "Pro" version and have the max speed up to 20mph and the mileage longer, but I don't have plans to go that far with it anyway. But it'd be nice to have the option. Also, this one is safer for kids and teens. I don't like the idea of my son riding around 20+ miles an hour on a scooter, so fifteen is decent.
You can trust GoTrax. Just research what different versions offer. Yes, they're more expensive, but if you plan on long rides, consider the more expensive versions.

Lightweight & fun electric scooter!

As a parent and recreational scooterer, I've had my share of experiences with electric scooters, both for personal commuting and as a fun ride for the kids. The GoTrax XR Advance has particularly stood out for its mix of portability and performance, which is a delight, especially when comparing it to other models like the Segway ES4. Here's a deep dive into what makes the XR Advance a notable option.
The GoTrax XR Advance is impressively lightweight and portable, weighing just under 27 pounds. This makes it much easier to fold and carry along than my Segway ES4, which is notably heavier. The ease of folding and the lightweight nature of the XR Advance mean that I can easily stow it in the trunk of the car when we head out for a weekend trip or when the kids want to ride around the park.
The scooter offers a decent range, allowing for about 12 miles on a single charge. As someone who weighs around 150 pounds, I find this quite satisfactory, though heavier riders might experience slightly less range. Charging times are a bit on the slower side, requiring about 4-5 hours to fully charge from near empty. This requires some planning, especially if the scooter is used frequently.
The ride quality is somewhat stiff, which can be attributed to the lack of suspension. However, the 8.5-inch tires do a commendable job of smoothing out smaller bumps, providing a ride that's more comfortable than not. After logging about 100 miles on the XR Advance, it's holding up remarkably well. The tires, in particular, are still in great shape— a stark contrast to my experiences with the Segway ES4, whose pneumatic tires wore out quickly and were a hassle to replace.
The digital screen on the XR Advance is clear and easily readable even in bright sunlight, showing essential information like speed and battery life at a glance. The throttle is quite sensitive, which might take a bit of getting used to, but it responds well and makes the ride exciting, especially for the kids. With a max speed of about 15 mph, it strikes a good balance between thrill and safety for younger riders.
One of my ongoing concerns with electric scooters is the availability of replacement parts, particularly the tires. Given my challenging experience finding replacements for the Segway ES4, I am curious about how easy it will be to source tires for the XR Advance once the need arises. This is something potential buyers might want to consider, especially if they plan on using the scooter heavily.
The GoTrax XR Advance is a robust, user-friendly scooter that's not only perfect for short urban trips but also as a recreational vehicle for kids. It offers a blend of features that are hard to find at its price point, from its portability and ease of use to its solid performance. While the stiff ride and long charging times are minor drawbacks, they don't overshadow the overall positive experience. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned scooter enthusiast, the XR Advance is a model that promises reliability and fun, all packaged in a sleek, durable design.
This scooter has quickly become a favorite for both me and my kids, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a versatile, recreational electric scooter that won't let you down.

Great, Solid, No-Frills Electric Scooter

Marketed appropriately as a ‘commuter scooter,’ this little gem seems true to everything it is marketed to be. For quite awhile I have wanted an electric scooter. I did not need the absolute best, but I wanted something that was built solid, of quality materials, and dependable. I have always been into biking and walking, but I thought that this would be fun to use where I vacation and for my daily trips to the local post office and around the small town where I live. The Go-Trax XR Advance electric scooter is everything that I have been looking for.
It came packaged extremely well and shipped in a double box which immediately told me that the manufacturer that markets this scooter cares about the products that they are manufacturing and selling and about their company’s image. The scooter comes partially assembled and in about 20 minutes I had it completely ready to charge. In about three and one-half (3½) hours it was completely charged even though I had expected it to take about 7 hours according to the manual. The XR-Advance is designed for older teens and adults because the platform is a substantial size for larger feet and the handle is taller for older people. It is not overwhelming and is something at under 30 lbs. that I can manage and place in and out of my vehicle when folded.
The scooter’s motor is rated at a top speed of 15.5 mph which I have not attempted yet since we have had a tremendous amount of rain since I received the scooter. Even with the streets slightly damp, I am extremely comfortable at 8-9 mph and when I reach that speed, I simply set the cruse control by holding the accelerator button down for ten seconds. To cancel the cruise control, I just brake. The handle brake is very responsive and easy to adjust if the cable becomes loose and it loses its responsiveness. The 36V 5.8 Ah lithium-ion battery is designed to last around 12-14 miles and since the scooter is rated for weights up to 220lbs., I would expect that the distance is shortened with larger weights using the scooter. I do not weigh near that and have gone around 13-14 miles before the battery needed a re-charge.
The scooter is remarkably simple, and everything works great and like it is designed and marketed to work! There is a red button on the column that you push once to start the 250-W motor. Push it a second time after starting the motor to turn on the LED headlight. (There is only a rear reflector.) Press the same red button for five (5) seconds to turn off the motor and press it while riding above 3 mph to switch gears. There is a console on the scooter that displays speed in MPH, battery life, and which gear that the scooter is running in. To use the scooter just press the red button once, place your right foot on the platform and push off with your left foot. When you reach over 3 mph hold down the accelerator lever on the right side of the handlebars and the scooter will propel forward. The scooter has 8.5” pneumatic tires which helps with bumpier roads and surfaces, but it really needs to be ridden on concrete, a bike path, blacktop, a paved road, or the smoothest surface along your pathway.
I could not be happier with the acquisition of the Go-Trax XR-Advance. It is perfect for what I need it for, and it is really a lot of fun! I definitely recommend it if your needs are under 12-mile trips. It would be a perfect choice for the price conscious consumer for commuting to work, for college students living on or near campus, taking to the city or on vacation trips where you desire to tour the town, or just getting some fresh air in your neighborhood. A REALLY GREAT LITTLE SCOOTER!

Top rated lightweight scooter for commuting

The GoTrax XR Advance scooter is a must have for the everyday commuter. I commute into a big city everyday via train and then I have a couple mile commute into the office. The XR advance makes the last few miles of my commute a breeze. I have another GoTrax scooter, but it is one of the bigger ones and it is extremely heavy. The XR advance is only 27 pounds, it folds up and can easily be carried up and down stairs.
As far as the specs, it has a top speed of 15.5 mph and a max range of 12 miles. I believe the 12-mile range is the perfect distance for most people looking for a commuter scooter. It also only takes 4.5 hours to fully charge the battery so you could charge it while you work and have a full battery by the end of the day. The 15.5 mph top speed is not horrible, and the acceleration is decent.
The scooter only has one disk brake in the rear, but it works well. It also does not come with any security. But since it is such light weight, you can easily take it inside with you. It is best suited for flat surfaces, but it can also go up moderate hills. If the hill has a decent incline than the scooter will slow to a crawl speed. Due to its light weight, it is easy enough to give a few kicks until you crest the hill. The speedometer does not show over 15.5 mph even if you are going downhill and faster than 15.5 mph.
This is not the fastest or longest-range scooter on the market. However, I believe when it comes to power to weight ratio it has to be one of the top contenders. I am looking forward to the summer weather so that I can skip my bus ride to work and commute on this scooter. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a less than 10-mile commute to work or who rides a train/public transit to work and needs a last mile commuter.

Most people don't think about how they get around. A lot of folk just stick to the conventional ways of getting around: walking, uber or taking the train or bus, while these are not bad ways to get around, it isn't my preferred method. I travel a lot to the city and find myself having to walk around a lot and that can be very time consuming. I was looking for a way to get around quickly and not have to lug around a heavy bike or take the train.
For some time I have been considering an electric scooter. I decided to stick with the Gotrax brand I trust them and have an e-bike made by them as well which is also pretty awesome for longer distances. I have the XR advance and it is meant for those who need to get around quickly in shorter distances which is perfect for those who live or work in the city.
So what is it like getting the Gotrax XR? Pretty simple to be frank and I like simplicity, the box it comes in is retty straight forward and it comes assembled for the most part. You attach the handle bars and adjust the brakes, charge the scooter and boom you are aready to go. I charged it for about 3 hours or so and I have been using it around town, and during the weekend when I go to work. It is pretty awesome.
It goes 15 and 1/2 mph max and the 12 mile range is accurate. I have only killed the battery once and that was during an endurance test to see how the battery would do.
So here is what you should know it has a charging port being that it is electric, charger is included, the led headlight works good and can be turned on by pressing the power button once while powered on and the same to turn the light off. the deck is comfortable for a 6ft tall guy with size 12 shoes like myself. It is rated to hold 220lbs I can't speak to that because I am nowhere near that weight.
The brakes work well and is on the left side, a nice little bell is included to alert others you are near. The wheels are big enough to handle rough terrain but it doesn't do well on cobblestone but to be fair I dislike cobblestone and my car has a similar issue.
Let's look at the PROS & CONS
Pros:
- Comfortable & Spacious deck
- Cruise control is a neat feature
- Easy to assemble & store
- Foldable (should fit in any trunk or back seat)
Cons:
- The latch to hold the scooter doesn't stay put sometimes
To elaborate on this, while folded, there is a latch that holds the bike while closed, and it sometimes comes undone while grabbing it. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but besides this, that is my only complaint.
Overall, I find this to be highly useful, and it makes it much easier and more enjoyable to get around the city while I am working. I easily recommend this to anyone who is searching for an easier commute. For those who need a scooter with a larger battery capacity, Gotrax has that as well in another scooter or one of their e-bikes with much better range.

GoTrax XR ADVANCE Commuting Electric Scooter w/12mi Max Operating Range & 15.5mph Max Speed
Summary: Smaller, but capable commuting scooter.
Pros:
* Industrial look offers a pronounced get-to-work aesthetic but it cuts out some of the more refined touches of its bigger cousin.
* Control. The accelerator works super well and offers great control - expected for a GoTrax.
* Breaks. The brakes are equally responsive and provide the stopping power you need; but beware breaking at high speeds!
* Head and tail lamps. The lamp is similar to other models. The tail lamp and flashing are less pronounced. We don't ride in the evenings much, so less of a concern.
* Battery. This unit is smaller because of its reduces range. That is okay, because we use this alongside our other GoTrax and while the limits are different, the ride is just as smooth.
* Enclosure/frame. While this unit resembles its bigger cousin, it is a bit smaller in length and weight. It feels substantial i.e. "well made."
* No frills. We have owned scooters that we use for recreation. It didn't feel safe for long distances, and it felt like it was designed for children even if it wasn't marketed as such. Maybe it was the flashing gimmicky LEDs everywhere, or the wimpy frame. This GoTrax compliments the unit we used to replace the wimpy competition and the lighter unit makes this the preferred unit for short distances particularly where we might need to fold and lug it around.
* Weight. GoTrax scooters are heavyier than the wimpy competition. This unit, though smaller than its cousin, is still hefty, but a fair trade off.
Cons:
* Charging port. I dislike proprietary charging bricks and connections. Though proprietary power is the norm, I wish it weren't. A magnetic power port would be nice since these ports will snag if you forget to disconnect before riding.
Use:
We recommend GoTrax scooters because they feel sturdy. They aren't flashy, but if short commutes are the primary function of this device in your life then this unit is perfect. We own a larger cousin and have been looking to get a pair since our previous wimpy one just went kaput after only a short while. The GoTrax deals just fine with some uneven terrain, as well, something other units have struggled with.

Great economical choice for those little runs

Arrived double boxed and well packed with Styrofoam pieces for protection. Assembly was a breeze – just pop up the tiller, attach the handlebar, and hook up the brake cable.
The scooter is constructed mainly from plastics, but there are actual wheel bearings in the wheels. The tiller is metal, and has a sturdy double latch to lock in upright position. It is equipped with a disc brake on the rear wheel, which is much better than the “push down” friction fender found on some scooters. I found the brake cable a little loose, and did a coarse brake cable adjustment as I assembled.
The scooter is tall, and looks to be intended for adults or teens. I definitely wouldn't recommend for smaller children. And anyone riding the scooter should get familiar with the scooter operation, wear protective gear, and any local laws. Keep in mind the scooter is rated of being capable of 15 MPH.
I did a test ride, and found it responsive, and easily got up to speed. The disc brake worked well, and stopped the scooter quickly. I can see where this could be good for short runs, or a high school / college student getting to class.
I think this scooter can be very useful, but there are a few things to be aware of. Charging the battery took a few hours, and depending on distance traveled, may need a re-charge for return trip. Max range is rated to be about 12 miles. You may have to plan your trip. I also found the thumb throttle to be very sensitive – trying to regulate the “take off”, or slow speed will take a little practice. And lastly, although the manual states there are different “speeds” by pushing the red button while traveling, I did not see any speeds, or change in display indicating any change.
Otherwise, it is an excellent economical means of transportation for those shorter trips. And, I am sure with a backpack, even a run to the store to pick up a few items.

The GoTrax Xr Advance is lightweight and great commuter scooter with a powerful motor and a long range of up to 14 miles. It is easy to ride and has a good build quality, but the cruise control can be a bit difficult to set up. It is also easy to read and reset the trip meter. It is a great value for the price and is a great choice for those looking for a reliable scooter.
