Great scooter but a bit heavy

I initially got the GoTrax XR Advance Commuting scooter for my daughter as a convenient way to get around her college campus. Before handing it over, I had to give it a try to see what I thought about it. From unboxing to assembled took about 20 minutes. It's not difficult, but the instructions could be much clearer. I had a bit of a time getting the brake cable into place as the instructions on that part were very vague. Pay close attention to the order of assembly or you will end up having to backtrack and remove screws to fix something you missed. Anyway, once I got it put together, charging to full took about 2-1/2 hours. There is a small light on the plug that changes from red to green to show the charge state. Nothing on the scooter itself though. Once charged, press the red button once and hte small-ish screen lights up and you're ready to go. Another press turns on the light, but I didn't have a need for that. It seems bright enough for a small scooter though. One good kick of with your foot and a press of the throttle button gets you zipping along. This scooter had no troubles with the hills in my neighborhood and the pneumatic tires and large platform made it relatively comfortable to ride. The cruise control feature takes a bit of figuring out, as does changing from first to second gear. But a little playing around is all it took. I found myself getting swarmed by the neighborhood kids on their smaller scooters who wanted a "big kid" to ride with them. This scooter is pretty fast, so it was tough to want to ride slow with them, but fun nevertheless. After a few rides, I begrudgingly gave it up to my daughter. While it folds up for storage and transport, the latch isn't the greatest and, at nearly 30 pounds, it can be somewhat cumbersome to load. That, along with the fact it does not have any convenient way to add a lock or chain made me ding it one star. Otherwise, this is a good mid-level scooter with plenty of power to spare.

    Great Introduction to Personal Commuting

GoTrax XR ADVANCE Commuting Electric Scooter The GoTrax XR ADVANCE Commuting Electric Scooter is a great introduction to the world of personal commuting solutions at an affordable price. The scooter came in a single box, well packaged, mostly assembled and easy to unpack. The only assembly required is attaching the control unit (with handle-bars) on top of the steering stand. Although it was easy and simple (and comes with an Allen wrench - the only tool you need), I did feel unsure about the assembly when only referencing the included instructions. However, a quick search on YouTube provided a number of short videos giving me the clarity and assurance I needed. It was assembled in just a few moments and then plugged into charge overnight - all ready to go in the morning. This is my first time with an electric scooter as an adult. I weigh around 145 with a heavy backpack and the scooter is able to reach its max speed of 15 MPH just fine. It's 6 miles round trip from work and home, mostly flat ground, and there's plenty of battery to spare. I'm going 10-15 MPH for most of that trip. It goes from 0 to max speed in about 7 or 8 seconds. Hitting small bumps is fine, though it causes the scooter to wobble a bit so I do my best to avoid them. I'm sure this is normal. Bumpy roads are not fun to ride on and I try to avoid them but the scooter does decent enough with them. I don't plan on going off-road; the manual suggests that I shouldn't anyway. Going up an incline, it still managed to reach 8-9 MPH. It can go pretty fast going downhill but the brakes feel smooth and effective. Maneuvering also felt good; I can make sharp turns pretty easily. It has a headlight and a back reflector which is really nice but I don't plan on using this at night for safety reasons! But I'm glad it's there. It's also great that it folds and unfolds fairly easily and is easy to carry when folded. Overall: I love it even more than I thought I would. Fun and easy to ride, perfect for getting around town. Looking forward to using it more.

This is my first adult scooter. My son has had several smaller kid units. I was super impressed at the quality and you can tell by the weight of the box. Assembly is super simple and the included instructions are easy to follow. All that is needed is to unfold, connect the brake cable and install the handlebars with two screws. All the tools needed are an allen wrench and it is included. The tires are air filled and there is an included valve stem extension that connects easily to my bike tire pump. The tires needed a few pounds of air and you just need to be quick unscrewing the extension to not let too much air out. My battery was fully charged out of the box and after removing a few protective covers I was ready to go. There is a headlight and digital display that shows your speed and the battery level. The only thing that was not 100% clear in the instructions was how to get the scooter to go initially. You have to push down on the throttle button and push forward slightly to get going. I like this feature because it keeps you from accidently pushing the throttle and loosing your balance. Acceleration is quick and the ride is smooth. I was able to balance easily and reach the full speed of 15 mph with ease. The throttle has a cruise control feature and disengages when you tap the brake. The brake is disc, and not just a pad, which provides smooth and powerful stopping power. This should last a long while and work efficiently even if wet. The stand is sturdy and keeps the unit upright when not using or charging. I highly recommend for an efficient and reliable exciting way to ride for fun or as a daily commuter.

This is a great affordable electric scooter. It is actually a great sized scooter for older kids and adults, even I was able to use it comfortably. This came well protected in the double box. Putting it together didn’t take too long. The instructions and pictures were good, not great but good enough. Once it’s we put it together, they say to be sure the battery is charged fully before using. It takes 7 hours to fully charge but mine was partially charged right out the box so full charge didn’t take that long. That was helpful because the kids were very excited to try it out. They were not disappointed at all using it. Both brakes and the accelerator works well. The front display and the bright headlight are a great feature and something I will look for when we get our next one. I like that the speed limit is about 15 mph for safety. The display makes it clear what the battery level is and the current speed. Oldest said it would be nice it the speed was higher but I’m happy with this. It gets them moving in a speed that they can control well. The scooter rode well outside, I was nervous about one of the children using it down a small hill but he manuevered well and had no issues. The wheels are large and stable. Going up and down in speed was not a problem same for braking and coming to a complete stop. So I feel pretty safe letting them ride it alone as long as they wear a helmet. This folds down quickly and is easy to carry and put it in the trunk. Definitely would recommend.

I'm not new to these scooters, I've owned them and really enjoy the way they work (and the speed!). For this one, I've given it to my son and he's really loving it. There's just something different about being able to go fast without a lot of effort (just be sure to have pads and a helmet, especially for the young ones). Out of the box the setup is basically the same as all others, attach the handle bars, pop up the support bar, charge it and get rolling. It's not the fastest available or the greatest distance, but for my and my son's needs, it's plenty for both, gets him around and he loves it. The price is right for this level of scooter and I really just can't say anything wrong about it. It's easy to use and straightforward in its function. It's also fairly lightweight since it has a smaller battery. A note on the battery, it is not user replaceable, not that most are, but it's worth noting at the least. All in all it's a great starter scooter and kids and young adults should be very happy with it

the GoTrax- Electric scooter is my husbands new favorite toy. this scooter can do everything you need it to with ease. We live in a very spread out area, so getting to our mailbox, or a neighbors house is quite a trek. but with this scooter he can zip the mile down the road to our mailbox, and zip back without putting a foot down. This scooter can also fly!! It does 15.5 miles per hour. the instructions say you can go for 12 miles, but we haven't needed to test it that long so I cannot tell you if that is true. It was very easy to put together. You just unscrew the hook, attach the brake and re-attach the hook. The scooter also can fold up to store or carry. it would be perfect if you are a bus rider or use it at a university. it also has a kick stand to keep it up if you are not going to fold it. All in All this is a great commuter scooter for not only short distances but longer as well. the cruise control makes it handy. I would recommend this scooter if you are looking for a way to get around!

I love this little scooter. It’s compact and easy to use. Assembly is relatively easy. It comes with all the tools you need and the only thing you have to assemble is the handle bar and connect the brake. Once you assemble the handle bars, connect the brake, you are ready to go. You have to get up to 3mph before the scooter will propel itself. It’s not hard to get to that speed and once you are there, it goes. It makes out just over 15mph which is fast enough. It has disc brakes and has good stopping power. There is a headlight that works when riding at night. There is a digital display which shows speed and battery level. Charging is simple and the port is very convenient. When done riding, it folds up nicely and is easy to carry using the wheels. I can't say enough positve things about this scooter and have no negative comments. Certainly with it if you are in the market for a power scooter. It is solid and has a quality feel to it. Even came with a tire inflater adapter.

Good, but not great, entry level scooter

I will start with the unboxing. It came in an external shipping box with the retail box inside. When I opened the retail box, the stryrofoam inserts that protect the scooter had done their job and three of them were in pieces. That indicated to me that at some point in the shipping, this box had encountered a gorilla handler or two. I am glad to report that the scooter did not sustain any damage and the styrofoam did it's job! Once I had it out of the box, the written instructions were adequate, but could be better with a step one, step 2 procedure and the parts you must dissasemble and reassemble being marked part A and part B, etc. I figured it out pretty quickly, but others may have some questions. Basically, you remove two allen-head screws for the brake assembly on the upright steering shaft to install the handlebars and controls. The tool for this is included. The instructions for where to route the brake cable were not clear and could be improved. I did not try it the other way, but I installed it to the left of the upright shaft when viewed from the riding position looking forward. It is a liitle tight so make sure to only start one screw a few turns before lining up the second screw, and then tighten both of them. Pretty simple. The whole process took me about 5 minutes and most of that was studying the quick start manual and looking at how the parts go together. Simple, but more detailed instruction may help other buyers. Make sure to pull off the cling wrap on the top of the handlebar so you can see the controls. There are two parts of this cling wrap. Make sure you read the manual before trying to ride it. It tells you that you press the red button for one second to start the scooter and five seconds to turn it off. Pressing on the throttle has no effect initially, as you must push off with one foot and be going at least 3 MPH before the scooter engages the motor. Do not engage the throttle while walking at least 3 MPH, or it may take off without you on it. Plusses: Very lightweight, easily folded and extended, stores vertical or horizontal, and is pretty stable when riding. It has cruise control, with digital readout of speed and battery charge on the console. It will likely do 15 miles on a charge with level ground, but it does about half of that with my hills. Your mileage may vary! Minuses: Recharges slower than I would like (up to 7 hours if fully discharged). It has a 36-volt 5.8 Amp-hour battery, and the charger is rated at 42 volts, .85 Amp-hours. I have only discharged it to when it quit once. Like all other lithium-ion batteries, it gives no warning of being depleted by slowing down, and it just quits when the voltage drops too low. The console display constantly shows the current battery condition, so make sure you pay attention to it. The 2 big minuses for me are the brake and the climbing ability. On the brake, mine makes a grinding noise, but it stops me very well. I am not sure if this is an issue, or it is supposed to be noisy. Maybe it needs a break-in period? There is nothing in the manual to indicate if break-in is needed. So, I hope this does not get worse. It does not make noise when the brake is not engaged. My second big minus is that this scooter just does not have enough horsepower for the hills where I live in Metro Atlanta. I have to swerve back and forth across the road to reduce the degree of incline it will tackle. I wish it had a lower gear to get me up the hills. Of course, downhills are no problem, and the brake does its job of slowing me down. Nit-pick: Not much in the way of suspension to help with the bumps as the tires are pretty much all the suspension you get with this model. It is a smooth surface machine, so if you have a lot of bumps on your journey, this may not be the best fit for you. I have not tried riding at night, so I cannot rate the headlight effectiveness, nor have I used it on anything other than concrete or paved roads. I have no idea how it does on grass or sandy areas. Since the tires are small (but have air in them) and provide all the suspension, I don't think I want to try to take it anywhere other than a solid surface. So far, I am happy overall, but the inability of the scooter to tackle my hills, and the brake noise require me to rate this only 3 stars. If it had more power and a quieter brake, I would give it 5 stars.

I’ve been riding the GoTrax G6 Commuter since I reviewed it back in August of 2023 and I thought it would be nice for my wife to be able to join me out on our electric scooter adventures around town with a scooter of her own. She prefers walking the dog while I’m on the scooter, which is always a hoot because our dog likes to try and keep up with me, turning her casual walk with the dog into a sprint. The XR Advance looked like a nice entry point for her to try. It feels like someone in sales at Gotrax said to the designers “Go make the G6, but cut the price in half” and the result is the XR Advance. Structurally the XR Advance is made of mostly the same material as the G6 Commuter which means you have a solid, well built frame. The folding mechanism on the XR requires pulling out a red knob instead of undoing a latch and the XR Advance does not come with a built in anti-theft lock. The XR Advance is the same mechanical bell as the XR Advance, but the handle to trigger it points forward instead of sideways making it really awkward to use without taking your hand off of the handle. The single brake is functional but feels far less safe than the dual brakes of the XR Advance. The kickstand is too narrow and I found myself unable to use my foot to pull it down, a problem I don’t have with the G6 Commuter. The XR Advance is a zippy scooter with 8.5” wheels, but there’s no suspension system which makes for an extremely bumpy ride on any surface other than brand new asphalt or concrete. This is probably the number one reason to avoid buying this particular unit. In our case a number of places around where we live are parks that use wooden walkways and the XR Advance bounces from wood slat to wood slat with bone jarring consistency vibrating the rear plastic panel so badly it looks like its going to snap off even when we never topped 5 mph. Meanwhile the G6 Commuter’s 10” wheels and active suspension are absorbing most of the impact for a smooth ride. I ended up swapping with my wife to let her ride the G6 Commuter and we still ended up having to cut our ride in half as it just doesn’t feel good to go long distances on the XR Advance. While I think GoTrax is producing reliable scooters, I can’t recommend buying one without an active suspension system.

Adequate For The Price Electric Scooter

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is my second electric scooter; I’ve had and been using my first scooter for about three years now so I’ll be comparing the two. Disclosure—my original first scooter is over twice the price of this GoTrax scooter that I’m reviewing so I’m tempering my review to reflect this fact. The two major reasons I am docking this scooter 2 stars in my review and giving it only 3 stars is because of the brake system and the accelerator, which are grossly subpar. I have found that the placement of the accelerator puts undue strain on my hand/thumb joint muscles while pressing on it when riding the scooter, even for short periods of time. The result is that my hand/thumb joint becomes sore and starts to hurt while riding the scooter after about five minutes or so, as I’m pressing down on it and adjusting my speed. This never happens with my other scooter, which utilizes the same type of accelerator (a right thumb throttle to press down). As for the brake, it is even worse, as it is like a regular manual bicycle hand brake that you need to squeeze to decelerate. My other scooter does not use such a system but instead has a parallel left thumb decelerator lever which you just gently press down to slow down. I found it quite hard to grip the left handlebar in tandem with keeping my balance on the scooter, while at the same time quickly adjusting my left hand to squeeze the brake when needed. Other negative issues I had with this electric scooter were how it folds for storage/transport and the dim display. I used this GoTrax scooter on nice sunny days and I could barely read the electronic display that shows the battery level, speed, etc.; there were many times I could not read it at all in bright sunlight. So unless you specifically try to avoid using this scooter on cloudy, overcast days or at night, you’re out of luck. My other scooter has a really good display that I can read clearly even in the brightest sunlight. And when you’re done using this scooter, there’s this elaborate song and dance you have to go through in order to fold it and put on a safety lock. Again, comparing it to my other scooter—for my other scooter, it has a much simpler way to fold it (basically one step that firmly clicks it into the folded position). However, I will say that for the price, I feel this scooter is quite adequate as it gets the job done, and the negative points can be overlooked for the lower price point. It’s kind of like car shopping—you can get a luxury car for a high price, but on the other hand you can also get a perfectly adequate lower priced car for much less which is more practical; in the end both cars do the exact same job getting you from point A to point B.

I want to first say that the scooter is great and is a 5 star rating, but Best Buy's customer service is a 1 star. There was no place on this survey to score customer service. I was attempting to purchase this online and there was a glitch in inventory. I called the custome service # and it immediately connected to a very nice, but heavy speaking foreigner. Before completing the purchase I made it clear that I needed this assembled in-store ahead of pickup. This was a last-minute purchase for daughter who is a freshman in college. She and I were flying into town for move-in and I did NOT have any tools to put this scooter together!! The representative promised that it would be done. He told me to call ahead before pickup and the store would have it ready. I did that and even the guy that answered the phone aaid it wouldn't be a problem and it would be a simple task and they'd have me on my way. Long story short, we arrived at the store around 10am and they told me I had to make an appt with the Geek Squad--which didn't have another slot until 5pm. My flight back home was at 2:30pm. This was immediately infuriating and the rep behind the counter wasn't at all helpful and said I can cancel/return the purchase but it wouldnt be refunded for at least 5-7 business days. So i would have been out of $350+ and have to search around for another scooter. My back was against the wall, so I took my purchase and prayed that we could find some tools/help to put it together. Don't count on Best Buy for good customer service. Purchase from another store!

This is the first electric scooter I have owned since I was 13. These scooters have definitely come a long way. The cosmetic aspect of this scooter is pretty cool looking. It has a matte type finish with accents, which makes it stand out without being overly loud. Also has some pretty beefy tires for a scooter. I like that. Some of these scooters are funky looking. LOL. Assembly was pretty straightforward. It didn't take much time to get it all together. Once I got it all together, I charged it up overnight. The next day I took it for a spin. It actually surprised me. It's acceleration was pretty smooth. It's not like a rocket but it gets going at a steady pace and maintains it's speed fairly easy. Braking works well and does its job. The display is a great feature. It's easy to read and works very well when accelerating and decelerating. The headlight is pretty bright for a scooter. At night, I stood the end of my driveway and pointed it at the front of my house. When I turned it on, it illuminated very well. I definitely feel good knowing I won't have an issue using this at night. My area is very dark with no street lights. Once I was done using it, I used the latch and folded it up. It is easy to do and gave me no trouble at all. Overall, I am very pleased with this electric scooter. It's a great way to travel locally or just go for a ride on a nice day.
