This saw is awesome. I have a 16" Husqv that was my favorite, but this saw seems twice as powerful. I have used it several times and have only drained the battery once, which was a workout. I needed a break by then. The charger has a fan to keep the battery from overheating when charging, which I like. I am a convert. Will never buy another gas saw. I have about 40 acres of dense hardwood forest, so it is going to get a workout.

This chainsaw is exactly what needed to take care of my property. A storm came through and broke a few hefty branches and took a few more down. This chainsaw cut through all the damaged branches and I cut them into even pieces all on one charge! Iwoild definitely recommend this chainsaw.

Be careful. I would advise against this powerful saw, for only one reason… the weight distribution. With the somewhat bulky 80 volt battery residing on one side, it works with the weight pulling slightly to that side, noticeably. This lack of balance presents a danger and should be considered carefully by each potential owner because better options exist! I looked forward to the day I would have this “upgrade” from the greenworks 40V 16” (which was my first saw) and my second saw was a stihl ms170 which was the perfect combo. Those two saws paired so well with each other! It’s like they held hands. Day after day i was impressed with the greenworks 40v and night after night because it was quiet enough for me to cut at night and received compliments from the neighbor on the noise level. Over a year later, i became to victim of theft and when going to replace the greenworks saw, i excitedly purchased the 80 volt “poppa” after a good hour or two of cutting and careful consideration I’ve decided to return the greenworks 18” 80v saw because of how hard the uneven weight distribution causes it to ride and pull heavily to the side while in use.

I bought two of these things and they are amazing! They are just as good as gas powered chainsaws but with less maintenance… They are very strong and can cut down large trees! I only wish they could come up with a lithium battery that lasted a lot longer…

I was pleasantly surprised when I first ran the saw. It was sharp and easy to handle straight out of the box. And very powerful. I fully charged the battery and was able to cut seven 18" rounds from a log approximately 18-20 inches in diameter before exhausting the charge; it took less than 25 minutes to cut the rounds. I've used gas powered chainsaws over the years and this saw will keep up with the best of them. I liked it so much that I bought a second battery to keep charging so my down time is kept to a minimum. After a 30 minute charge, I was able to cut five more 18" rounds. I returned the following day to cut five additional 12" rounds before the log diameter exceeded the bar length. Great saw! Worth the price!

I love the power, size and feel of this Greenworks 18” 80 Volt Chainsaw. I was surprised at the weight of the battery. It is a bit heavy to start with but after the first couple times using it I quickly adapted. It runs and cuts smooth and steady. It had no jerking at all. The 18 inch blade was perfect size to cut through the limbs and small trees that a recent storm blew down. It didn’t take long at all to clean up the back yard. The chainsaw came with the 4 AH battery and charger. It was easy to charge and stayed charged for the entire time. I was surprised the battery lasted that long. I really liked how the battery sit inside the chainsaw instead of sliding onto it as my previous saw did. It feels safer and the weight is more evenly distributed. It does not come with oil but I had some in the building so I was good to go. I even like the color as it makes the saw and battery easy to see in the building. The days of lugging a gallon of fuel and a chainsaw are gone. I love that I don’t need to call anyone for help cleaning up limbs. This saw doesn’t take up too much room and easily stores in the building with the charger and battery. I appreciate that it’s easy to start. There is no cord to pull. The safety features are a MUST for me. The saw will immediately stop if If I fall or trip and take my hand off the button. As an Older female Safety is very important to me. This is my first Greenworks brand power equipment I have owned. I’m impressed and really like it a lot.

I was decidedly surprised by the performance of this chainsaw and the ease which it cut through large limbs. I cut up the entire portion of the top-half of a tree that fell on my property in less than an hour, on one battery charge, with a little to spare. With the remaining charge I did some cleanup on some other trees and debris on my property, also without any issue. The only time I started to have difficulties was when the battery level was really low I was trying to cut up remaining parts of an old trunk, and the chainsaw would stop when things got tough. After recharging it was able to finish it off. The battery did not come fully charged (Lithium batteries never do), so charging it up to full is going to be the first task. The battery is quite large, and so is the charger. But, it all seems well designed. The charger has a large fan in it to keep the charger and battery cool while charging. But, the fan is somewhat loud, but I just left it in my garage to charge. When putting it back on the charger after using it, the battery was still warm to the touch. The charger flashed red, which the manual indicated the battery was too hot to charge. But the charger fan turned on, so I left it on the charger. The battery charged once it cooled off. The chainsaw is somewhat heavy with the battery, but not outrageously so for its size and power. It wasn't a problem for me when chopping the tree up. The chain/bar oil fill opening is somewhat small, but I like how the cap operates and is tethered to the tank. But, spilling a small amount of oil seems inevitable. I also felt the tank was a bit opaque and somewhat hard to tell how much oil was in it. But it's easy enough to check on it before use and when changing the battery.

Hello MarvinL - We are sorry to hear of your disappointing experience. New chains tend to stretch; so be sure to check the chain tension frequently and tension as required. However, be sure to never tension a warm chain before storing as chains shrink when cooling and this can damage the chain, bar and saw. Please ensure that when you remove the side cover that the parts are there and in order, these parts are imperative when it comes to keeping the chain on. Nonetheless, our product experts would love to grab a few more details; if you are interested in sharing your experience, we would be happy to listen. Great Gas Alternative

The Greenworks Pro 80V 18” Chainsaw is a great alternative to a traditional gas chainsaw, providing ample power and performance with up to 240 cuts per charge. The brushless motor provides the equivalent power of a 40cc gas engine without the hassle or fumes with the convenience of electric thanks to Greenworks’s 80V battery platform. Greenworks has a large offering of 80V outdoor power equipment, so it is nice knowing you are not limited to using the included 4ah battery with only the chainsaw. Greenworks provides a generous 4 year tool and battery warranty, which is impressive and reassuring with any electric device. Where as gas chainsaws usually require a fair bit of maintenance, the only maintenance to do on the Greenworks Pro 80V 18” is keep the automatic oiler topped off and the usual bar/chain maintenance. Not having the gas engine component not only simplifies maintenance but also reduces weight, with Greenworks coming in at 18lbs with the 4ah 80V battery. Though I wouldn’t say it is light, the chainsaw is well balanced. The overall construction seems solid, with an automatic oiler, chain break, and metal bucking spikes as you would hope to see on an 18” chainsaw. Though predominantly plastic there are two metal studs holding the guide bar and it feels pretty solid, apart from the molding or screw hole in the handle which is right where you hold the chainsaw. With gloves on it is slightly noticeable but it does not prevent you from handling the chainsaw properly, just a minor annoyance. The included rapid charger is able to charge the large capacity 4ah 80V battery in just an hour. On a single charge I was able to do some light trimming around the house and then fell, limb, and a buck a small 50’ pine tree with one bar out of three left. Though the chain tension is straightforward to adjust using the including socket/screw driver tool on the side chain guard, it would have been nice if they could have implemented a tool-less design. Overall the Greenworks Pro 80V 18" Chainsaw is the perfect option for anyone looking for a powerful, convenient, and low-maintenance chainsaw. With its impressive cutting performance, great battery life, rapid 1-hour charge, and a generous 4-year warranty, the Greenworks Pro 80V 18" Chainsaw is a great choice for an all around chainsaw.

This is only the second chainsaw we have ever owned. We went from gas powered to this one which has a huge battery pack. I wish it came with everything you needed to use straight out the box but it doesn’t. You will need own for the chain. Other than you, you will need to charge the battery, which only took me an hour. Once plugged in, the fan will turn on. So you know it is charging if you see blinking lights and the sound of the fan running. Which can be a little annoying. Once fully charged, you drop the battery into the chainsaw, check all safety features and turn on. Make sure you were gloves and glasses because you will be up and running in no time. Not compared to a gas chainsaw, we’re you physically have to work to get it started. This is literally a push of a button and the chain is moving so don’t get caught off guard. We have an oak tree that fell in our front yard and have been slowly cutting up the limbs to use for our fire place and bbq wood. The limbs or a little bit bigger than my fist in diameter and this chainsaw goes straight through no issues. Once I’m done, I charge the battery and store for next time.

Hello Maclemoor - Thank you for your honest and detailed feedback! We appreciate your review as we are always looking for areas to improve. We'd love to share some additional tips for caring your the battery. When the battery will not be in use, we suggest storing it indoors, in a cool dry area - away from direct sunlight. Leave the charger unplugged and the battery disconnected from the charger unless it needs charging. It is recommended to store the battery with a full charge, and if it is being stored for a period where no use is expected, to check on the charge every couple of months. If you notice the charge has dropped, we advise charging the battery back up to full before returning it to its safe storage place. Following these steps will ensure you receive the most of the battery life. I really like this saw. Easy to handle, powerful, quiet and no need to mix gas. Therefore you don’t have the fumes of a gas chainsaw. The plastic sprocket guard should be made out of something stronger. The only real drawbacks are the run time and high cost of an extra battery.

Great Chainsaw - Get Second Battery

I already own a 40v 16” chainsaw, but notice it stalls out when I cut anything wider than 12 inches. I was wondering if this 80v Greenworks 18” chainsaw could handle larger trees. My first impression of this chainsaw was that it looked pretty basic with mid-grade plastic. The battery charger was made of similar plastic, but I was impressed with the quality of the battery. During charging, I was surprised by the amount of noise coming from the charger, but realized the noise was coming from the fan for cooling during rapid charging. I was impressed with how quickly the battery charged. I cut down a 20 inch diameter hardwood tree and was amazed with the power. The saw sliced through the trunk easily, and during the whole task only stalled slightly twice. My 40v chainsaw would have stalled many times and would have required 3 or 4 batteries. So naturally, I was impressed with this chainsaw’s performance. I noticed the branches (4 – 8”) did not use much battery, however the 20 plus inch trunk quickly drained the remaining battery after about 5 or 6 cuts. After recharging the battery, I was able to finish the job with 1 bar of power left. I would recommend purchasing a second battery or purchase additional outdoor tools to make sure you have enough uninterrupted battery life. I left the saw with the bar and chain oil in the saw for a few days, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it does not leak like my other saw. Pros Powerful 18” bar Fan cooling fast charging No leaking of bar/chain oil Cons Non-premium plastic on saw and charger Other than the mid-grade plastics used, this is a high-quality and powerful chainsaw. This would be a great replacement for most tree felling tasks and would highly recommend it. However, I would like for this saw to come with two 4ah batteries or be part of a multitool purchase.

I could never get the new Stihl 250 i bought started. My wife got me a 10 inch Greenworks and it was great. I sold my gas chainsaw and bought the 18 inch Pro. It works amazing! I'm making bowl turning blanks, cutting through large rounds of hard maple like butter. So easy to handle. Safer by far since there is no yanking that cord.

After a a few times out in the yard, I find this chainsaw to be a great value. It is light weight, quiet, and it does not rip off chips like the normal gas saw. I can throw it in my vehicle and now worry about the smell of gas either. My Son uses it with ease. It will cut up a medium size tree with a single charge.

Excellent product. I have only had it for a few months, so I do not know how long the battery will last. I have been able to use the chainsaw for over two hours, and I still had a charge left to go longer. I tired out before the battery did. Very light weight. I was pleasantly surprised. Realitively quite, no surprise there.

My old gas powered chainsaw broke so I thought I tied an electric one. This Greenworks 18" is perfect for small projects on my backyard. What I like is that only requires the oil, battery and chain to operate. The battery pack is heavy and bulky but it does not get in the way and it is not loud as the gas powered I had and still cuts with the same strength although I did not try it on big trees. I'll leave those to the pros. I like how quick is the response and the immediate stop. Like all tools of this type it comes with a safety lock to prevent accidental operation. It comes with the adjusting tool, a simple manual and an easy to read quick guide. The charge has a loud fan, two light indicators that light up when charging. The battery pack also has 3 light indicator for the charging progress. I did notice that the change comes off fairly easy from the blade but that may be due to improper adjustment on my part. The manual is very useful for the maintenance and proper use. The battery lasts a good 2 hours under constant use, long enough for an average DIY project. This a very good tool to have for us who like do-it-yourself small to medium size project.
