Very effective tool. Comparable to a medium size Stihl chainsaw, but without issues for starting it. Instant on/off is better than running gasoline saw continuously. Battery recharges quickly. Works well for 30 minutes of actual cutting. To work longer get a second battery.

This Chainsaw is a Homeowners Dream

The Greenworks Pro 18 inch 80 volt battery powered chainsaw with brushless motor seems to be a homeowners dream. This chainsaw just plain works, very well to be honest, with very minimal cons that will still have you buying this saw.
First, the packaging was very well setup, zero damage happened from the manufacturer not even placed in a protective box, the shelf box ad packing made it to my homes with zero damage. Pulling it out of the box, I immediately started charging the 80v battery so my testing could be set from a full charge, I did not even check or try the unit for charge out of the box.
Next, I checked the chain adjustment for my 1/8 inch of play I like to run my blades at on all chainsaws and decided to take out a thick bush in front of my home. The bush was 8 inches thick at the base and cut through it in less than 10 seconds, not bad for a sappy pine bush and the chain that was included with it. The saw never once slowed down or bogged, it was plenty of power to get through the bush. I next cut off limbs from my maple tree overhanging the garage, wow, cut right through the first few but the original chain was already dull. I went out and bought a new chain from a brand I always use and now this chainsaw competes with my much more expensive gas powered brand, probably does better when the battery is full.
Also, the sound of the unit is different than gas obviously but you still need ear protection, the high pitch whine is just as taxing to your ears as a 2 stroke screaming through logs as well. Is it easier on your ears, yes, as long as you stay under half throttle, go over half, it is just as loud up close as gas powered but the sound does not carry near as far, so your neighbors will be extremely happy.
Pros:
Ease of Use
No Gas
Quick Charge
Lots of cuts before the battery needs recharged
Quick cutting
Safety Handle
Lighter than gas
Cons
Still loud
Safety Handle can cramp larger hands when rotating the saw
Original Chain Dulls Quickly
Overall, the saw works great and would easily pay the asking price for this piece of HD equipment.

Replaced my gas powered chainsaw

Ever wonder how good a cordless chainsaw performs? I did. I've had my share of 18-40v cordless hardware, and while they were great for convienince, they just didn't have the power to get some of the jobs done. So I had some hesitation in trying out an 80v cordless chainsaw.
No more reservations. I spent an evening cutting back my bamboo garden and I know even a lower performing chainsaw could handle it so no surprize on how it handled that task. After 20 min of cutting I was down to 2/3 green lights on the battery.
Next task was to take down an dead Japanese Plumb Tree. Initial cuts and it chewed easily through the wood. Next was the main cut and, WOW!, the Greenworks chainsaw cut just as well as my gas powered! There was still some power so I started cutting the tree down into manageable chunks but had to quit because it was starting to rain. I was down to just 1 level on the battery indicator so I'm not sure if it would have lasted the full job.
Other than chain oil, no other petrol products are needed. Recharging took around an hour - I didn't accurately time it. My neighbor has a Christmas tree farm so I'll be showing them my new toy well before the next holiday season.
While it does have some weight, I really didn't feel like it was unreasonably heavy. The battery itself is around 6lbs and was easily maneuverable. The noise was less than a gas powered saw, but it's still loud and I recommend not leaving out the hearing protection while using it.
The chainsaw impressed me so much I had to get the string trimmer also. Once it stops raining I'll be putting both to work since I have more bamboo to clear out and an overgrown yard to cut. Next I need to find more dead trees to take out, lol.

Very impressed.Had a tree come down after a recent storm.Made quick work of it with this beast.Made 22 cuts over the course of half an hour (8”to 10”).I put the battery on the charger afterwards and it looked like it was showing 2 dots,so about half spent.A little disappointing. It’s a 4ah.Probably going to invest in another battery, yikes they ‘re expensive ! By the way I’m 72 ,Mother Nature has been kicking my butt lately, but the weight of the saw was no problem.

a big beefy battery

Not sure exactly what I was expecting, but it wasn't a battery of this size. Obviously a chain saw is going to require a lot of torque, and that's going to require a beefy battery, but this one is a monster. The charger has its own built-in fan to manage the temperature when charging. It's quite heavy as well. Most of the weight can be attributed to the motor and the battery, and it probably comes in pretty close to what a gas-powered chain saw is going to weigh. If you're new to chain saws, you may not realize that you're going to need bar and chain oil to operate this. This isn't a little dose of oil to keep the engine lubricated; it actually gets consumed during operation of the chain saw. The manual claims that a full reservoir will give you 20-40 minutes of operation. So if you don't already have it on hand because you own another chain saw, you will need to buy some before you can use this one. Once you have the prerequisites met, it's pretty simple to run. Make sure the chain brake is off, then there's simple safety button to depress the trigger. There's plenty of power, but that's expected with a battery of this size. Ergonomics are pretty standard for a chain saw; the weight balance is good. This isn't some light-weight electric weed trimmer; it's a no-nonsense power tool.

Excellent battery powered saw

All works great but the battery does not hold up as long as claimed. The convenience of a battery powered saw is very nice. It has as much power as a gas saw.

Great alternative to a 2 cycle gas saw. No more gas/oil, loud
sound. I was working on some 6-8' cuts and it was like slicing butter. Only complaint from me is that with larger cuts it definitely runs the battery down quick and overheated it. I had to wait about 30 mins for it to cool off before I could re-charge. Great for smaller jobs not so much on large jobs.

Very powerful. Easy to use and easy to start. Love not having to carry a gas can around. The battery doesn’t last a really long time before needing charging but it does outlast me. Very happy with my purchase
