I had heard a little about the movie when it was released to the theatres, but wasn't intrigued enough to plunk down the $30 to go see it back then. When I saw the movie as a Blu-ray at a great price on Best Buy, I jumped at the chance to purchase it. I'm very glad I did. Super drama filled with human emotion that thankfully not many will ever need to experience. The characters & story were based on actual accounts of those who were there. Well acted & directed. There's a lot of blood & guts (literally) but I really enjoyed the film.

If you are not into war movies you probably won't like this movie. It centers around a soldier, who for personal reasons, refuses to shoot or carry a weapon of any kind, and will not take another's life. He is bullied, beaten and abused by just about everyone around him. His Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant and CO do everything they can to get him discharged but an unexpected allie steps in to block the discharge proceedings and he is allowed to go to war. What he accomplishes during his duty is amazing. There is quite a bit of blood and death in this movie as it is necessary to relay the depth of this man's commitment to serve his country. This is a true story which makes what he accomplished absolutely incredible!!

This movie is both a true story and compelling. The real life story is even more miraculous given how much combat the subject, Desmond Doss, saw. I know some have ridiculed it as somewhat sanctimonious but I think its really wonderful to see a story about a person of a minority Christian faith in this country (Seventh Day Adventist) portrayed in such a light. While I'm sure things didn't happen exactly the way the film portrays, its for the affect of a pretty compelling story, one that still has such resonance today where we face whole new onslaughts of evil in all its various forms. As for the product, this is Real 4K and will look great on any TV set and player that can handle the format.

This is an excellent movie that every adult should see. It shows in gut-wrenching realism the absolute horror of war (especially in WWII Pacific Theater) and what our "Greatest Generation" overcame to ensure not only the freedom of the American people, but ultimately for the people of Japan, Phiippines, and more. It also tells the true story of Desmond Doss and shows the audience the bravery, strength of heart, character, and conviction of his faith and beliefs of this humble hero. May this movie help inspire the people of American to return to being patriots who are willing to sacrifice and put country before self and to stand for the ideals that made America great.

Hacksaw Ridge was a fantastic portrayal of Desmond Goss' actions as a Conscientious Objector ("CO") wanting to serve his country, the US, during World War II. But how do you serve in the US Army when your beliefs forbid you to commit aggression of any type against any other human being? He did figure out a way. And the way he carried out his service made him a Medal of Honor Recipient. Incredible story AND movie; neither over-acted, quaint, trite, nor oozing with special effects. Very skillfully presented. I bought it before seeing it. All I knew was a summation of Doss' basic backstory, so I do not know how true they were to his real story. Now I really want to read about Doss!

Received for Father's Day, saw this real factual movie on TV and it was so good. Was amazed that one man could have done this all by himself, end shows real man talking about his experience. Always wanted to see it again for every time you pick up something new in movie. Watched it on Father's Day with family, older child never saw it before and was totally into it. Great story and movie.

Hacksaw Ridge, starring British actor Andrew Garfield (who is excellent) is well worth seeing.--not only because of its excellent acting, cinematography, and screenplay, but also because of its subject matter.The movie tells the little known true story of WWII American Army medic Desmond T. Doss--a pacifist who turned down a deferment - who risked his life (and sustained serious injury) to save the lives of many of his fellow soldiers on the Asian battlefields in spite of his refusal to carry or use a gun. In recognition of his heroic service on the battlefield (without firing a shot) he received many awards including the Medal of Honor. I definitely recommend this DVD.

I really loved this movie. One of the best war movies I've ever seen period. The story of Desmond Doss and his desire to serve his country while still holding to his convictions was inspiring. It is so unique, and the fact that it is based on his true story, is amazing. Mel Gibson did a masterful job telling this tale. Made you feel like you were right there with them. Highly recommended.

The movie is regarding the real life account of a true hero and medal of honor receipent. Movie starts quick but adds the needed emotions. I have read the book and the movie follows pretty close and grabs all the valuable moments. The epic finalie of this movie really is something to enjoy and understand. Shows the true moments a solider would have had to endure. Please understand this is not a true war movie and more of a war drama with a handful of short but valuable war scenes. Not a good movie for children but great for anyone else.

Hacksaw Ridge is a EXCELLENT movie! The soilder, Pfc. Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), was a fierce, good and brave human. This movie is a classic. It shows how ugly war is but more importantly, how the USA faught very hard to to help preserve a society and protect the values of a country. A reality was shown from so many angles. Bullying, fear, love, strength, loyalty, pain, ostracizing and never letting go of core beliefs, convictions. All led to respect. Supporting cast, AWSOME! This movie is a MUST MUST see! Again, a classic!

There are plenty of battle scenes, body parts flying around after explosions. But this movie, based on actual events, isn't about the destruction of bodies, but about the heroism of saving the wounded in the WWII battle of Okinawa. Andrew Garfield plays Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector medic, who wants to go to war for the sole purpose of saving people. Doss's efforts, in real life, earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor. A counter theme in this movie is the very touching love story between Doss and his new bride played by Teresa Palmer. Palmer and Garfield play an absolutely convincing and endearing young couple in difficult times.

"Hacksaw Ridge" is not the "feel good hit of the summer" - at least not in the traditional sense. The subject matter in general (war) and the way in which the main character (real person) was treated are gritty and tough to watch at more than one time. That said, the underlying decency, bravery, character, and humanity that is brought forth, overall, in this film, by telling this story, is inspiring in its own way. I have not been able to, as of this time, check for embellishments vs. eyewitness accounts, but, he did get the Medal of Honor... and they do check those things....pretty amazing to say the least.

Hacksaw Ridge painfully reminds us that heroism is never easily won. To be a conscientious objector in WWII, as in any war, takes strength to endure, and our hero endured more than a share that any man would be expected to endure. Humiliation, resentment and threats to change did not keep him from from his belief. In the end, without raising a rifle, he saved many human lives and earned himself a place in history. Thanks to Mel Gibson, we have another depiction of war that reminds us that the face of heroism takes many forms, and a man can be gentle, yet triumph, because human will and belief are steadfast!

To start off, I personally have actually only seen Andrew Garfield in one other film- The Amazing Spider-Man until watching Hacksaw Ridge. Hacksaw Ridge is by far one of the top best war- based dramas I've ever seen. What's more amazing is that believe it or not, it's based on a true story. Andrew Garfield portrayed his role exceptionally phenomenal as did his co-stars. Such a moving touching true story of what having real "heart" means. Great action, drama, romance, graphics, special effects! It's all here in this film! You'll love & treasure this movie! Andrew deserves an oscar! Best drama of 2017 so far!

The soft-spoken Desmond Doss’s formative years were spent in the rolling hills near Lynchburg, Virginia. He immediately volunteered for service in the Army after the Attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The entire acting cast is "relatively unknown" but their individual performances were over-the-top. The scenes of the Army Boot Camp at Fort Jackson, SC were representative of Army Training practices of the 1940’s and the combat scenes at Okinawa, 1945 were realistic, brutal and they will renew the memories, long suppressed or forgotten, of those who served in “close-combat” years ago. A "quiet" hero!

HACKSAW RIDGE is the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss [Andrew Garfield] who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector to ever earn the Congressional Medal of Honor.

I was astounded! I finished the movie and realized that WWII soldiers were truly the greatest generation. It is an incredible portrayal of an amazingly courageous man who stared into the face of death and wrangled a true miracle from the flames of death and destruction. "Just one more..." - and to maintain his convictions in the face of ridicule with such an intensity - his steadfast beliefs and his true integrity - he changed their minds. Point to note - NOT FOR CHILDREN!! They spare nothing in portraying war and how soldiers die. America should be honored to have had a son of such true conviction.

Was about the only thing at the time that wanted that would work with my coupon I received. It’s a good watch.

One of the better movies telling the story of a man of principal who wanted to serve our country. Also has to be one of Clint Eastwoods best efforts. I can watch this movie over and over. I like the digital capability but also like to have the physical blu ray for when I am not connected. If you have not seen this one then you should.
