When I saw this movie in the theater, there were a lot of things going on in the back scenes showing the atrocities done to American soldiers on the battle field due to the propaganda fed to the Japanese soldiers. Just for that bit of realism, I bought this video to review the truth being shown in this movie. Of course note that the escarpment they were going up was probably 1/3rd the height in reality, but that's Hollywood. Even the rescue technique he used he learned in the Red Cross helping flood survivors just prior to the war.

The immersive audio mix compliments the already top notch soundtrack and enhances the experience of watching the film. The attention to detail here is noticeably on display and I have to tip my cap to the sound mixer. The 7.1 Dolby TrueHD (Atmos core) soundtrack doesn’t disappoint and sounds terrific. Based on the incredible true story of WWII medic Desmond Doss, the first conscientious objector to ever earn the Congressional Medal of Honor, Hacksaw Ridge is a compelling, well-crafted film that pays homage to him, and those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom

I wanted to see this movie from the time the trailer was released. I typically wait until it is released on blu ray so that I can enjoy it on my own terms. I was not disappointed and this is a must buy for all movie lovers and especially those with home theaters systems. It looks beautiful, sounds amazing and has phenomenal acting!

Thank goodness that people like Desmond Doss and ALL of the other men and women who serve or have served in our military exist. I am in awe of you all. To say that I LOVED this movie would be an utter understatement. Mr. Gibson delivers 'big time' with this film, AGAIN. I purchased an OPPO 4K player, back in the spring of 2017, and all of my Blu-Rays look better AND sound better. Upscaling and higher dynamic range is noticeable. That being said, the 4K version of Hacksaw Ridge is hard for me to gauge. It looked and sounded remarkable, as it should.

This the best movie ever and it’s based on a true story. The men and women who fought for our country in WWII were truly the Greatest Generation. It’s not for the feint of heart because of the realistic war battle scenes but it brings home the facts of a true hero who single handily saved the lives of more than 75 men in his unit. I watch this movie every Veterans Day.

A long time ago, I lived on the Island of Okinawa, where the Hacksaw Ridge battles took place. So I have seen the jungles and rough terrain where the battle took place and read historical accounts of the hard-fought battle for Okinawa that convinced President Truman to drop the atomic bombs. But I had never heard the story of the Conscientious Objector portrayed in the movie. He must have been one helluva good and brave man to have saved all the men he dragged off the battlefield when everyone else had pulled out. Very touching. Brought tears to the eyes.

Hacksaw Ridge in 4K. The Blu-ray transfer was really bad, heavy banding in some scenes. Thankfully the 4K transfer all but eliminates all the issues present in the 1080p transfer. I picked up the Steelbook version at a reasonably price, I was glad to find it in store. Andrew Garfield is great in this movie and I highly recommend it to everyone interested in war movies.

    True Heroism

As a first responder, I understand the mindset of serving your community and country. Today, many people refer to first responders, police officers, and the military as heroes. While often there is a sense of service and contribution to country, applying the word hero is sometimes overused. In this movie based on a true story, we are reminded what real heroism looks like. It's not just being deployed or even doing the routine, but putting yourself at grave risk again and again for the sake of others. Awesome movie and very inspiring story.

I love war movies, as Hacksaw Ridge being based on true facts, I was hyped to watch it in 4K! Funny thing though, not realizing which disc I took out, I watched the Blu-ray version first, and as I was watching I kept saying to myself "this picture quality is no different from Blu-ray!' LOL! After watching, I put the disc back in the case and I noticed the other disc labeled 4K Ultra HD! Wow! I was so upset that I immediately put in the 4K disc and rewatched, man! I was I blown away by the difference in resolution. It was worth watching again!

This movie could have easily been a disaster, but Mel Gibson somehow accomplished to take the story of a religious man in WW2, and tell it without being disrespectful to the man or the religion. In a lot of movies whenever religion is involved, either they disrespect it, or they just really rub it in your face. But Hacksaw Ridge didn't do any of that. And the performances from everyone involved were excellent. It's a movie directed by Mel Gibson, so expect to see a lot of great action scenes, but also a lot of blood. It is a war film after all.

The story of Desmond Doss is a fascinating one. The story line for this movie should be experienced by every American. The appreciation of our military should never be in doubt once this movie has been seen. The war scenes are bloody, but I have no doubt very like the real thing. It shows us what war is like and what our troops have to go through. Desmond Doss's conviction to not kill, but save as many as he can in a war, is awe inspiring. To see what he did as an unarmed soldier is amazing. This movie needs to be see. It is just so impressive.

Extraordinary Movie! The true story of conscientious objector Desmond T. Doss who saved 75 men in Okinawa, during the bloodiest battle of WWII, without firing a single shot. Believing that the war was just but killing was nevertheless wrong, he was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon. As an army medic Doss single-handedly evacuated the wounded near enemy lines - braving enemy fire and putting his own life on the line. He was the first conscientious objector to ever win the Congressional Medal of Honor.

This is now one of my absolutely favorite movies! From beginning to end, it is incredibly well-shot and acted with an amazing cast and crew. It has great action, adorable romance, an amazing message, and even some genuinely funny moments. I was so moved and inspired by this incredible true story, and stayed on the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie. Although, I would not recommend this for young viewers as it is EXTREMELY gory in order to make it more realistic and to display just how amazing the actions of the main character were.

This true account of a conscientious objector who became a hero during WWII is in reality a love story disguised as a war story. The action scenes are portrayed realistically, but as you see the graphic violence of war you appreciate even more the heroism of Medal of Honor winner, Corporal Desmond Doss. How inspiring to see a man who was true to the standards and values he espoused. The Blu-ray version of the movie contains bonus features that are excellent and add to one's understanding and appreciation of how and why this movie was made.
