This movie should have won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.(they still may have gotten the envelopes mixed up!!!) Though the fighting scenes are brutal - the acting and the true story is excellent.in this portrayal. Already watched it twice. My Dad was an Army medic in the Pacific and I now know why he rarely talked about WWII. Great movie to remind us of the sacrifice those men made for our country. They are the Greatest Generation. Buy the DVD you will not be disappointed.

Not wanting to be too redundant with this, but Hacksaw Ridge was truly the best film of 2016. Extremely well acted, perfectly paced, well written, expertly directed film. Word of caution, however. This film is VIOLENT. While the stories of true heroes like Desmond Doss need to be told, you might want to wait for your younger kids to be a little more mature to fully comprehend the magnitude of the situation at the time, and what was at stake for the entire world before they see this.

Interesting film, good script and overall good movie. Would definitely recommend.

I am a sucker for a movie based on a true story. And this one was a tear jerker

Mel Gibson is back with an admirable effort directing this inspiring true story.

I highly recommend this true story out of Okinawa during WWII. Desmond Doss volunteered for the army after being reassured he wouldn't have to carry a weapon. It's hard to watch the ridicule and physical abuse he had to tolerate, but he stuck it out. He eventually became a medic and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. The battle scenes are NOT for the squeamish, but if you want a glimpse of the "glory" of battle, this is a MUST WATCH.

Glad I bought it after all. Read a review that said it was a romance movie with some war scenes in it. Reviewer stressed the romance part. Would not have bought it after reading that except Best Buy had such a great deal. It was a war movie with some romance that made Desmond Doss' MOH herorics all the more incredible because he had alot to lose in life if killed.

I saw this movie in the theatre when it came out. It was based on a true story that I had never heard before. If you like war movies, this one is good, if you like historically accurate (or somewhat accurate), you'll love this one. I remember hearing of Hacksaw Ridge in school, but didn't remember any details. Funny enough, a few days after seeing this, PBS ran a special on Hacksaw Ridge, which made the movie even more remarkable knowing how closely it followed the battle.

Good movie with a great message, always enjoy movies based on true events

Be forewarned that this film is a violent graphic depiction of war. The film was justifiably an Oscar award nomination based on an inspiring true story, which I was never aware. Now let me add that I was, and still remain, conflicted about watching this film. I am 180 degree's at odds with Mel Gibsons personal views, but there is no arguing with his film genius. For me personally, I cannot explain or forgive Mel Gibson for his past rants and bad behavior.

I thought this was an incredible movie. If you enjoy World War II action movies that are based on true stories, this is a must-see film for you. Andrew Garfield does a great job portraying the brave, quirky lead character who is at first shunned by his fellow soldiers but eventually accepted by them because of his heroic actions saving their lives. There are many gory battle scenes involving dead bodies so I don't recommend this film for children under the age of 16.

This is a great war movie makes you think, directed by Mel Gibson

I had never seen this movie but bought it because it was a great deal. 4k movie for 9.99 that's a great value. This movie has a touch of a love story and starts a little slow, but oh man the action is crazy. The action scenes are incredibly intense and very graphic. You feel like you are there and is just nuts..i really enjoyed watching this movie. I watched this on my 85" Sony 4k tv.

Overall I thought this was a decent movie. Kept my attention till the end.

Excellent movie. An inspiring story of a conscientious objector who saved more than 75 soldiers during the battle of Okinawa. The battle scenes make Saving Private Ryan look like a Disney movie, however I think that helps drive home the horror and heroism that Desmond Doss lived and accomplished. Historical interviews with the actual people help make the story even more real. The 4K presentation provides a deeper more detailed picture of its BR counterpart.

The sound is the best part of the movie but the movie is good as well

This has to be one of the best World War II movies I have ever seen. The story line is one that you might think was made up by the Hollywood script writers, but the fact that this is based on true events makes it even better. The acting is truly unbelievable. The way that you can tell that a movie is enjoyable is the fact that the movie is about 2 hours long and it just seemed to fly by. This is a must buy for anyone who is intrigued with World War II.
