Although the movie didn't strictly adhere to the actual chronology of the Desmond Doss story, mainly because of time constraints, this is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Andrew Garfield did a fantastic job playing Doss, a WWII conscientious objector who earned the Medal of Honor for his bravery. While there is violence in the movie, it was war and a lot of violence did occur. I don't believe blood and gore was shown for effect only. I felt it gave me an idea, even if only slightly, of what those guys went through and what they might have seen. Whether you believe in God or not, it's refreshing to see someone stand on their convictions like Desmond Doss did, even though he took a lot of abuse for it. I actually met him and he was a humble, gracious, person. I believe that had everything to do with his faith. I highly recommend this movie. I do, however, consider it to be too graphic for smaller children.
