This movie tells the tale of an unusual soldier (one who cannot kill) in the Pacific Theater of World War II. It shows his heroism and courage to save his wounded comrades during one of those battles.

This is a touching story of someone who stands by their convictions.

This movie is based on the true story of Desmond Ross, a WW II conscientious objector, who still wished to serve. He joins the Army as a Medic and remained steadfast against carrying a firearm because he believed taking a life was the worst sin of all. As a Medic he believed he could still do some good, focusing on saving lives instead of taking them. As you can guess his fellow soldiers and the Army looked down on this viewpoint. The hacksaw ridge battle changed all that as Desmond remained after the battle risking his life to save over one hundred fellow soldiers to include lowering every one of them down off the ridge to the medics below, all night long. This movie represents both sides of war, the beauty (bravery, honor ) and the horror (death, destruction ) without taking sides. Desmond was awarded the Medal of Honor for his service and lived a long life. Check out his real life story online.

purchased at Best Buy for a great price, this was a very good movie

Most people don't know this medic's story. I didn't. I was told by someone, who's movie opinion matched my likes/ dislikes, "I don't want to sway your view. You just have to see it. Then we can discuss it." That was unusual as we talked immediately about all movies we saw. I was intrigued. I am glad I saw it! In fact I rented the movie and went to purchase the 4K version on the way home - because 4K UHD discs don't go on sale often and I wanted to capture the "1st week release sale" if I liked it. The rental got returned after I saw it. I was awestruck. I kept the 4K version! Let me be clear: this is not primarily a war movie...this is a movie about a soldier's faith with a war backdrop. It is probably the most realistic rendition of war I have seen. If you don't like war movies, see this for the hero within. If you liked Braveheart for William Wallace, you will like this just as much!

Great war movie. Definitely a keeper if that's your genre.

Sound and picture are really good. Great story to know in WWII.
