He was a native Virginian, from the Roanoke area. The only conscientious objector to ever get the Congressional Medal of Honor. A Seventh Day Adventist. I could easily watch this poignant (and yet portions of extreme combat violence depicted) movie multiple times.

great movie that is really well done and keeps you interested

This was a very well directed movie by Mel Gibson. Based on a real event that occurred during World War 2 at Okinawa. The first instance of a conscientious objector who would not carry a weapon. Treated as a coward initially, the main character of this film eventually proved to be far more heroic than others thought he could ever be. He saved approximately 75 American lives as a paramedic, and had to do it on his own behind enemy lines. This movie is not so much about an event of war, but it was about a humble man that stuck to his beliefs and won the respect of those that fought along side him as he fought to save lives. In 4K this movie is exceptional. The clarity of the picture, and, if you are completely 4K set-up; TV, Amplifier, Blu-ray player and HDMI Cables.... The sound quality will blow you off your couch. Yes, it’s that good!!

It can't be understated the importance of the island hopping campaign of the Allies in the Pacific that would eventually lead to victory over Japan in WWII, and the men who paid the price for that victory. Hacksaw Ridge was a military engagement brought back to life in this great movie in the pivotal Battle of Okinawa. It is a story that is not mentioned much, but deserves to be retold. Pfc. Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector, joined the war effort in the states, suffered much by his own unit and commanders during basic training just to serve his country as such. Doss will be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his unbelievable heroics as a medic at Hacksaw Ridge in Okinawa. Enough said, you'll have to just watch this movie to see the true story of Pfc. Doss' heroic deeds as brought back to our collective memory by director, Mel Gibson.

This is a great movie and disc quality is very good as well.
