Not the right Blu-ray
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did not receive what was pictured I thought I was going to get the orange Blu-ray special edition but instead I got the regular Blu-ray case. Not happy. If I would have known it was going to be the blue bluray case I wouldn’t have bought this.

Check before leaving
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Be warned to check your item condition before leaving, disc cover was punctured and didn’t realized it until I got home. Discs were ok and movie looked ok in 4K, keep in mind this was shot over 30 years ago.

Great Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."Halloween" is a modern horror classic. To date, it has spawned seven sequels, one remake, and a host of imitations including some of the best holiday slasher fare. I was a freshman in high school when "Halloween" was released thirty years ago on an unsuspecting America. My classmates were hailing it as a great horror film; they couldn't stop talking about it. This film went down in history as one of the top grossing independent films. Expertly directed by John Carpenter and Debra Hill (who also brought us "The Fog" - a creepy ghost story), "Halloween" shocked America with its chilling plot. What would possess a six-year-old boy from a normal, middle class family and make him stab his teenage sister to death? the devil possessed him! Fifteen years later, when the grown Michael Myers escaped from the psychiatric hospital, his psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis (horror icon Donald Pleasance of "The Flesh and the Fiends," "Raw Meat, and "Phenomena") insisted he was pure evil, and no longer a human. This would explain his ability to survive being shot, stabbed, and set on fire. Jamie Lee Curtis (daughter of "Psycho" star Janet Leigh) made her film debut as babysitter Laurie Strode; she and her high school friends are stalked by Michael Myers on Halloween. Curtis gives an outstanding performance as the injured teen who desperately flees the maniac while pleading for help from the neighbors who turn off their front porch lights. She quickly realizes there really is a Boogeyman. Granted, ""Halloween" is not a gory, high body count slasher flick. However, it does have nail-biting suspense, memorable theme music (on a par with "Jaws" and "Friday the 13th"), and history making originality. "Halloween" proved that monsters are still real. They can be the boy next door - the one who killed his sister. It is a delight to watch the beautiful P. J. Soles when she plays her usual role as a mischievous, free-spirited girl. She was a tom boy in "Carrie" and a cheerleader in "Halloween." If you haven't seen the original film "Halloween," you're in for one of the best Halloween treats in history. I envy you!

perhaps the greatest horror movie ever made
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Thirty years later and Halloween still remains incredibly relevant. It's still intense, and it's still a classic. Few horror movies can withstand the test of time as well as John Carpenter's Masterpiece. The reason it still works today? Simple...the story is steeped in realism and it's a situation that everybody can relate to. It boils down to that primal fear that a psycho really might be lurking in the shadows...waiting to hack you to bits. Though several people die, Halloween doesn't really rely on gore to spook audiences. Rather it features brilliant photography that deftly places "The Shape" in the background of several scenes (usually accompanied by some disconcerting synth sound effect). It helps create this palpable tension that makes you weary a crazed maniac is creeping around every dark corner. The atmosphere benefits heavily from Carpenter's pulse pounding iconic score. You really feel as though you're part of the chase scenes and it's easy to find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat. Halloween is the archetypal slasher movie as it practically laid the foundation of the genre for years to come. I suggest picking this one up on Blu Ray since it's arguably the best version available. No horror movie collection is complete without this one.

Best horror film of all time!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I finally upgraded my copy of Halloween from DVD to blu-ray and could not be happier. The picture and sound are amazing. This is the greatest horror film of all time. What makes it so awesome is the realism of it. This is something that could really happen which makes it even scarier. It is not like todays films which rely on blood and guts to carry the film. Halloween is all story and acting. Jamie Lee Curtis is fantastic and believable as a young scared potential victim. Most of the horror films I saw when I was young are silly and not scary watching them as an adult, but not Halloween it still gives me the chills watching it as an adult. It is a believable story and the acting and suspense make it worth the price. I get this out every Halloween and turn out the lights. I can't wait till my 3 girls get older to introduce them to this horror classic and scare them good. Great film that you will watch every year especially in the upgraded blu-ray version.

A Slasher Classic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This low budget horror classic isn't the most obvious choice for a 4k upgrade but its budget price and the improvements of HDR make it worthwhile. This is not the definitive release though since it's still missing some special features from previous dvd releases.

Scary and influential
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After gathering praise for his effective urban thriller Assault of Precinct 13, John Capenter's status as an A-list director was secure with his followup-a simple, but scary shocker called Halloween. This one film led to almost two decades worth of imitators, none of which had the same impact. One reason for this being that Halloween had characters worth rooting for. Donald Pleasance is perfect as the doctor who's the only one with any understanding of the seemingly-inhuman killer who's escaped from his custody and returned to his old haunts to resume his murder spree. Likewise, Jamie Lee Curtis deservedly became famous as the potential victim who manages to escape Michael Myers. Also worth noting is that Nancy Loomis and P. J. Soles, as the girls who aren't so lucky, prove equally endearing and sympathetic(unlike later slasher film victims, who signed their death warrants by simply being mean to the Last Girl Standing). John Carpenter's music rivals that of Jaws, Psycho, and Suspiria as the finest score for any horror film.

Classic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the most brilliant, simple, and scary horror films ever made. All the stars were in alignment when John Carpenter, and Debra Hill set out to make this now classic horror film. There have been many clones of this film, but this one is the one that started it all. Amazing lighting & cinematography by Dean Cundey, wonderful performances from Jamie Lee Curtis, Nancy Loomis, P.J. Soles, and Nick Castle. Minimal onscreen graphic violence, no blood, no gore. All story, scares, stalking, and horror. The now classic musical score by director John Carpenter really makes this film come alive! Don't watch this alone or in the dark!! And watch Halloween II immediatly after this film, cause it's a continuation of the same night!!! My favorite film of all time.

Blu Review for Halloween
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This low budget story of a crazed slasher out to get Laurie started a new trend in film making with some of the first use of steady cam (to offer us the perspective from the eyes of Michael Myers the stalker). This was the highest box office smash in the world of horror at the point the movie was original released, no surprise that it launched Jamie Lee Curtis onto bigger things in Hollywood. A must have movie for any fan of horror. "Halloween" gets the royal treatment on Bluray with this very satisfying HD transfer. The 1080p HD master reveals unprecendented detail and repairs many of the "soft" apearing scenes with incredible detail and clarity. The colors pop and some shots even have a 3D presence such as those where Laurie is walking home from school surrounded by the tress lining the streets and the bright orange leaves on the ground. The sound is mixed in an Uncompressed PCM 5.1 with a Dolby Digital 5.1. While the film will never sound like "Terminator Salvation', it offers crystal clear ambient and rear channel effects, crisp dialogue, and the classic music theme has never sounded better or more chlling. This one is priced to own, and a must for fans!

Very nice Steelbook grab for collectors
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I saw the art online I new it would be a purchase, I've always been a fan of this series and Ive been collecting steelbooks for a time now. When it came in the mail I was pretty blown away. In all honesty nothing does it justice but seeing it in person, because not only was the art on the case even better than expected based on the case, but the condition it was in was near perfect. If your looking to get Halloween 1978 in other formats, there is a base 4k format for the movie with no steelbook, a blu ray steelbook with different art, or other various versions, but in my opinion this one is very much worth the buy based on how well done the art is, and the fact that you'll have a 4k and blu ray at your disposal.

A+ picture and sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a huge fan of the original Halloween and have purchased many different copies of this film over the years. The blu-ray edition is by far the best I have seen yet. The picture and sound quality are amazing for a film that was made almost 30 years ago. The color and resolution of the film make it look like it was filmed only recently. The only negative about the disc is that there are no new extra features that have not been released before on previous dvd editions. This is the best horror film ever and this is the best release yet.

Halloween looks great on Blu Ray
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I must say that this blu ray version of the classic halloween is extrodinary. The picture is so clear and perfect, it doesn't even seem to be from the early eighties. I would not say anything bad about this verions. If you are a halloween fan and want the best picture you need this. Some movies on Blu Ray's look good, but this looks great, and is also a great price To conclude this review, I highly recommend this film on Blu-Ray to see the movie in its finest home video presentation and witness, "The Night He Came Home."

Happy HALLOWEEN
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Halloween is a good movie; for many, Halloween is a perennial classic. Michael Myers, the films' antagonist, is a psycho stalker equipped with a large knife. Halloween is unlike the majority of films in the horror genre. Halloween utilizes a superb sense of suspense throughout the film to keep the movie viewer on the edge of his/her seat, rather than the over-emphasized use of blood and gore. This film introduces the world to Jamie Lee Curtis. And as they say, "A star is born". Curtis' raw talent is observed through her portrayal of Laurie Strode, a happy-go-lucky teenager. Her performance is believable due to the wide range of emotions she emotes. Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) steals the show. His reoccurrence throughout the series essential propels the franchise to its success. Also, most noteworthy is the ever present music score, which is a constant reminder of the unknown.

Death has come to your little town
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Blu Ray version of Halloween has been on my shopping list for a very long time, and at long last its here, and it doesnt disappoint guys, this film is nearly 30years old, and it still holds up extremely well its chilling and has all the elements that a horror needs to put it simple this is a classic and it set a benchmark for its genre all those years ago. now onto the important matter 'The blu-ray transfer isnt perfect guys it does show signs of graininess, but if compared to the standard dvd there is big diff and to me its a small price to pay for such a classic horror film. if you own a blu-ray player then my advice to you is to snap this up.. even with its slight grainyness it still looks beautiful and a lot sharper than the standard dvd-release. this is the best version to date remember guys this is 30years old.

The Greatest Horror Movie of All-Time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here it is folks: The Greatest. Number One. The Apex. The King. The Best Ever; drum roll please.............................John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN. "Halloween" is one of the most copied and admired horror movies ever. It all starts with the creepy score from John Carpenter himself (every time I hear it, my back gets a chill and my hair stands on end). It concludes with the best ending in cinematic history. And in the middle is a truly scary and terrifying masterpiece. This 25th anniversary edition is great; loaded with special features such as a great commentary with Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Debra Hill, and 87 minute (almost as long as the movie itself!) documentary, and much more. October 31st is coming up (even if it isn't), better get your copy of The Greatest (and scariest) Horror Movie of All-Time.

Great Classic!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I first saw this movie when i was like 6 or 7 years old when i saw it at blockbuster. Of course i didn't see it once it came out in the 70s because i wasn't born yet but it caught my attention. I saw it and once it was finished, i was freaked out on how scary it was. Sure i was 6 or 7 but by then i had seen almost every nightmare on elm street, jason, chucky, and other horror movies that were out by then. I was used to seeing horror movies for a while. Still the last time i saw it was a few months ago and it still was pretty scary and intense. Anybody who loves great horror movies this is a good one to watch whenever you get the chance to. I might just buy this movie and then check out the remake by rob zombie to see if it's as great as the classic.
