When I saw that the original John Carpenter Halloween was available in 4K Ultra HD, I was pretty excited. I bought it, took it home, and popped it into my Sony UHD 4K player to watch on my 65” Samsung OLED 4K TV set, connected with an 8K HDMI 2.1 cable. The pack is a 2-disc set. One disc is the film in 4K, one disc is the film in standard Blue Ray. While the 4K picture is pretty good, despite grain throughout, I was a bit disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high. Maybe I’m not exactly sure what I expected from a dark film originally shot in 1978 now remastered in 4K. The standard Blu Ray version is slightly less grainy than the UHD 4K version, but also less sharp. I believe that this Blue Ray version is basically a previously released Blue Ray version with no additional touch ups. The color timing is a bit off as the picture is quite bright and a bit too warm. Both discs have different special features. Both should have the same features so that you don’t have to switch discs to enjoy all the features. The menu of the 4K disc has much to be desired. It’s a static background (of the original movie artwork) that has obviously not been retouched, The menu of the standard Blue Ray disc is animated with sound. Overall, it was a good buy of a great horror classic. I’m happy to have the 4K version in my film library.

    4K version is really unnecessary

If you have this on Blu-ray then I think you’re good to go. 4K on a movie like this was overkill. Still, always good to have it on the most recent media.

    Best Movie Ever

The classic...restored. For starters, this is my favorite movie ever. A person feels this movie more than they see it. All the scares are there and, even though the characters aren't truly "developed" you care about them much unlike most horror/slasher movies. The video transfer for this BluRay was incredible. Many times for older movies the transfer doesn't hold up and it's hard to tell the difference between the DVD and the BluRay, but not here. My only problem is that the BluRay advertised here is the thicker brown box limited edition, which was what I thought I was getting. Instead I got the standard blue case packaging. It still has the BluRay and the book so I'm not unhappy. Well worth the price anyway.

How many times am I going to purchase a different blu-ray of the same movie? Well, one more time apparently. Given that this time around John Carpenter's classic was given the steelbook treatment. But what did me in was the beautiful artwork by Phantom City Creative. Absolutely knock out interpretation. The 4K transfer from a year or two ago looks absolutely spectacular. Halloween has never looked or sounded this good. The 7.1 mix included on the disc holds all kinds of details in the audio I'd never heard before and this is a movie I've been watching my entire life.

Lionsgate Entertainment and Best Buy proudly bring John Carpenter's horror classic back to the SteelBook format, an exclusive FYE SteelBook was originally released but that one did not contain the film on 4K. This beautiful release houses the film on two discs, disc 0ne the 4K disc and disc 2 on HD Blu-Ray. It also contains a digital copy redeemable in 4K through some streaming providers. This set also has a plastic slipcover that protects the case. It is a beautiful release recommended to all horror, John Carpenter and SteelBook fans out there! Happy Halloween!

Get image quality for such an old film. I bought it with the idea it would have a digital code in it, but I was sadly mistaken.

From 1978 with love, the origin of Michael Myers and the first real slasher movie slices its way into the present on 4K.

John Carpenter's original HALLOWEEN is by far the best of the series. This "economically" produced horror film started the Slasher Movie craze, made Jamie Lee Curtis a star, and held the record for highest grossing Independent Film for many years. It's become a staple on TV during Halloween season, and has been re-made (badly) by Rob Zombie. There's talk of yet another reboot, but it I doubt another director can recreate the simplicity of the original. It's been done, pretty much perfectly, so just leave it alone...

    The original "Halloween" in 4K

An absolutely beautiful version of this horror classic. "Halloween" has had all sorts of versions on home video, with middling results at best, but this is a truly stunning bit of lab work. Colors are at their most natural with this release, and blacks are, for the most park, inky & true. This is not going to be a reference disc for those who want to show off their new 4K TV, but it is the best this movie has looked (so far) on home release. Extras are pretty good, but not spectacular- disappointingly there is nothing new on here (all of the Special Features are from the 35th Anniversary release)

Where to start with this steelbook? Its just beautiful. The leaves connect both Laurie and Michael in a haunting yet visually stunning way. The slipcover is an awesome bonus too. This steelbook is just too pretty to damage. The 4K is very nice too. It's cleaner overall, but some scenes are hard to tell a difference between 4K and what you get on a standard blu ray. Overall for a 40 year old film it looks really good. The film is a classic that will stand the test of time, and this steelbook will too!

This steelbook is absolutely gorgeous and I love the cover that helps protect it from any shelf damage over time. The art is incredible and I love that Laurie is included in the artwork. Halloween (1978) is my favorite film ever and I have many variations, most purchased secondhand but when I saw the artwork for this specific steelbook I knew I had to have it. Everything works great and I highly recommend!

Halloween is one of the greatest horror films of all time. Not much needs to be said about John Carpenter's Halloween. This steelbook is one of the best Best Buy has produced in all of 2020. The artwork is fantastic, with the fall colors as the highlight. The plastic slipcover makes this a must-have purchase. All of Best Buy's steelbooks should come with some protective slipcover. Overall, this is one of the best steelbook purchases that can be made.

This SteelBook is absolutely gorgeous & looks even better in person!! I can’t stop staring at it. The artwork is insane and it also comes with a clear slipcover which I love & wish all SteelBooks came with. The disks are nice too, the Blu-ray Disc has the original poster design on it & the 4k disc has the 35th anniversary design on it. The only disappointment is that my digital code won’t work. I definitely recommend this SteelBook though!! Don’t wait!

The movie that set the standard for horror in cinema finally comes to 4K! Halloween has been my fave horror since the first time I saw it on VHS. The 4K transfer is pretty good. The Dolby Atmos is crisp and clear. The thunder storm in Michael’s break out at the beginning is excellent- the thunder and rain are directly above - right where they should be! This is a must have for the horror fan.
