Great collector's edition
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although this variation of the most famous of horror movie franchises is not well received, this movie still holds some viewing points as it's one of the scariest versions of Myers seen in film in a while. This edition of Rob Zombie's take on Halloween comes with a boat load of special features as well as a very detailed and informative behind the scenes section, actor interviews, and a look into how the director drew inspiration for his vision of Michael Myers.

Love It!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are 2 types of reviews for this movie, you either love it or you hate...I LOVE it!!...The back story was an excellent addition and made the whole movie, that much better...I loved the characters, the atmosphere, the acting, everything!!...The actual steelbook for this is just ok, it could have been a LOT better, but still worth adding to the collection!!

The Life and Times of Michael Myers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not a big horror fan. My housemates have repeatedly talked me into watching slasher film after slasher film, and I still just can't get into the genre. But this film is different. This film is actually really good. And that's not to say that other slasher films aren't. (I could never discredit the Scream series.) Rob Zombie's "Halloween" just goes beyond the simple bad-guy-with-a-knife stereotype and delivers an amazingly scary and sad story of a well-known fictional psychopath. In this version of "Halloween", director Rob Zombie doesn't just retell the original story in his own style - he retells it well: Zombie's "Halloween" is more of a biography of Michael Myers than a slasher film staring Michael Myers. The first and best example of this is the opening act of the film: the back-story of Myers's childhood is almost thirty minutes long. (Most slasher films tell the back-story in a short five-minute teaser before the opening credits.) Once the audience is attached to Myers' character, the story progresses to show Myers' troubled life in a mental institution, his escape from the mental institution and finally his killing spree. Most films wouldn't go into this much detail on the nemesis's character which is what makes Zombie's version so good. Overall, this movie will likely appeal more to horror fans but non-horror fans, such as myself, may enjoy it too. Yes, it shows blood and guts, but it's a great retelling of Michael Myers's story and I highly recommend it.

An interesting take on a classic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know why everyone is bashing this film, but I am a die-hard fan of the Halloween movies and the horror genre, and I thought this movie was a nice remake to the best and original Carpenter film. It's certainly more entertaining than the sequels that previously came out, and this film sets a more serious and modern harsh reality of what it could be like if this happened today. Carpenter's original film took place in 1978, so I found it to be a nice homage for Zombie to begin the origins of young Michael Myers in 1978. For the first time, we actually get to see what kind of family and childhood that Michael grew up in, which explains so much to his psychotic condition. As a child, Michael's facsination with torturing and killing innocent animals presents an accurate profile for such a future serial killer. This film actually has some explanations behind it, which is vacant in all other Halloween films. Zombie's direction is rough and gritty, but certainly adds to the atmosphere and chilling story -- my heart was pounding when young Michael was slaying his sister and her boyfriend. As for Zombie using the same cast as his other films, it's really no different than what Carpenter did either (How many Carpenter films was Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, Charles Cyphers, Donald Pleasence, Nancy Loomis, and Adrienne Barbeau were in? I can count at least 3). I've seen the original film about a thousand times, and Zombie's remake can never replace Carpenter's classic, but this film is worth the effort and respect. I'm looking forward to the Unrated DVD version, which will have a lot of scenes restored that was cut from the theatrical release.

it's good just lower your expectations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a horror fan you will like this movie. It has all the classic horror attributes. But it also bring in the new school horror elements as well. Rob zombie tells the story in a similar manner but with twist and a deeper dive into the heart of the characters. Even to the point of making Micheal seem human and we all know he is evil incarnate! Is this Oscar worthy? NO! But not every movie has to be perfect some times raw and imperfect works just as well! The story is told with heart but he had to stick to the story because it was a remake/retelling so he was confined into what was! The kills were there the story was there and the characters were there. It smoothly transitions from young Micheal to teen Michael to Adult killer! It stays true to the story so no worries for us HALLOWEEN fans it right up our alley! What people need to remember is that this is just a freshening to the series not the deathnail or rebirth of the franchise! It takes what we love the Halloween series and gives it a make over! It's just a good movie not great but a really enjoyable watch even after my fifth watch of the movie

Another Good Rob Zombie Movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rob Zombie's portrayal of the Michael Myer's story is done very well. If you are a fan of this series you are going to definitely appreciate what Zombie has done with the original. Zombie starts out by giving you some insight into what it was like to be a young Michael Myer's. Although he tries to explain it all as a tough childhood, there is something seemingly wrong with Michael regardless of what his family life is like. Zombie then takes you into what it was like for Michael in the insane asylum, and directs you through his deterioration of his mind. Dr. Loomis of course works with Michael the entire time and makes no progress as you see Michael get worse and worse. Then Michael is given the chance to escape from the insane asylum and possibly reunite with his long lost sister, who has been adopted by a local family in the town he is originally from Haddonfield. This is when the horror takes place as Myers does whatever he has to in order to reunite with his sister. Zombie does a fantastic job at making the movie gory, with a lot of horror as Myers makes his way house to house terrorizing the town of Haddonfield. A very well done horror/gore movie that doesn't have many scares. Highly recommend for those who are fans of the series.

ENJOYABLE FLIM
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a big fan of all of the original Halloween (except #3). I definately don't think that Rob Zombie was able to top the original Halloween, but he shed some light on many things that were left up to the imagination.how michael myers escaped...what drove him to kill his sister, though he kills most of his family in the origional....how his costume came to be ....how he knew how to find Lori..etc..I also have to give Rob Zombie credit for bringing a darkness to this movie that John Carpenter couldn't, in fact there aren't many directors willing to be as to do most of the things that Rob Zombie will gladly do. Which i think is amazing. Bottom line, I think he did an amazing job with this remake..

Rob Zombie out performed the original film.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will admit I was not happy when I heard they were going to make a remake of John Carpenter's Halloween. There are many classic movies that should never be remade and I thought this was one of them. When I heard Rob Zombie was directing the movie I was curious about seeing the movie. I am happy I did. Rob Zombie took the original Halloween movie and made it better. The first movie lacked any character development when it came to Michael Myers. He was just an ominous figure lurking in the shadows that would come out and strike at any time killing his victims. Rob Zombie gave Myers a history and personality. The original Halloween worked because it was new and it was scary. However, what Rob Zombie did was developed an actual character and made Michael Myers interesting. This is a must see movie. Thank you Rob!

Great DVD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Definately recommended !DVD Quality is great, and the extras are appreciated ! Ok, I'm gonna come right out and say it...Halloween should never have been remade, but since we remake everything these days, who better than Zombie to helm this task? His junior film effort pays off as this is an excellent spin on the classic tale of old Mikey. Halloween is of course about Michael Meyers and Zombie elaborates on this theme by giving us almost a biography through Michael's eyes. My advice is, treat this as it's own freestanding film. Do not compare to Carpenter's version because if you're gonna do that, you might not like this. Rather, as a friend told me, treat this as the Michael Meyers of a parallel dimension or something. It's enjoyable and Zombie deserves an A for effort, so go easy on him.

Excellent Movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To be honest, I was a little skeptical prior to viewing this movie. I had heard some of what the critics had to say, and plus I didn't get the chance to watch it in theaters. I decided to purchase it way before it came out just to see if what the critics had to say was true. I actually purchased it last night, and popped it into my DVD player as soon as I got home. I have to say, I was fully impressed with the job Rob Zombie did. I was fully impressed with the movie. The best part, in my opinion, was revealing to the audience why Michael turned out to be what he was. Very good movie. It does show quite a bit of blood, but all horror/thriller movies nowadays are like that. If you enjoy horror movies, you'll enjoy this one.

Comes close to the original Halloween movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rob Zombie is a film making visionary! He took john carpenters original Halloween and added so many backgrounds to the story line. At the beginning of the film, the history of Michael Myers makes you sympathetic toward the soul less monster. As the film progresses, and Michael escapes the psych ward, the story picks up where Carpenters began. There were points in the movie when I hoped Micheal was going to show some glimmer of remorse and a softer side, but then BAM, he attacks again! Great flick, I think it was better than the original!
