zombie played with fire but it worked
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok - I totally denounced this film upon it's announcement. I went from thinking Zombie was a god (1000 Corpses, Rejects) to cursing him. Well... this movie was AWESOME! Aside from Carpenter's original, and let's face it, Halloween II (best sequel EVER), this is the most incredible, scary, Halloween film there is. It's got everything I and II have - storyline, atmosphere, incredible camera work, and brilliant lighting. The films that SHOULD be scorned are H20 and Resurrection. Those are pieces of trash that ignore the entire series in some sort of sick sense of self-entitlement to rewrite everything. While it seemed this would fall into the same, it absolutely DOES NOT

Trick or Treat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Halloween is one of my favorite movies of all time. The original at least. This movie has many things that the original left out for good reasons. The origin in the Zombie film made Michael more human which was a good reason Carpenter left it out. When you don't know Michael's reasoning, when you don't know what he's like, when he is nothing more than a "shape", that's when he is scary. The origin in this film really weakened Michael Myers and made him less threatening and creepy. The second half was also pretty much taken from the original film. However Zombie added much more too it, though it seemed a bit too much. As much as I liked to see a ruthless Michael, and I know Zombie was trying to end the movie in one film, it still felt like they just tried too much with the last half. There was also one scene in the uncut film that made me uneasy. There was a scene while Michael was in prison that seemed unnecessary in any respects. Why Zombie filmed this was beyond me. Maybe it showed that he didn't care about anyone else but his masks, but the overrall scene felt completely out of place and somewhat perverted. It wasn't in theaters, and I'm glad it wasn't. This movie was...ok. Nowhere near the greatness that was the original, but I have to give Zombie props for trying to touch a movie of the originals caliber. He gave it his all, but he tried too much with it and I felt he failed. So if you're a huge fan of the original, you probably won't like this one. But if you haven't been exposed to the Carpenter version, you might enjoy this one.

great remake
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i really enjoyed this movie alot more than the origional holloween. the remake focuses on micheal as a child and how he became the way he did. then story then shifts midway to him as the adult shatner masked killer. i like the action alot more than the origional though the story wasnt totally butchered in the process. i thought it was great and bought the movie after i rented it.

One of my favorite movies!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a huge fan of the original Halloween movies so when rob zombie remade this classic 1978 film I was more than excited to see it. This has since became one of my favorite movies so I had to get it on bluray. If your a fan on the original this is a must see! The first half of the movie is a new and interesting take on the movie and the second half is pretty true to the original. Overall its a great buy and well worth the money.

great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i loved this movie compared to the older version. in my opinion the remake was better and the action was a little more brutal in the remake to make up for todays "lifestyle". the movie isnt really gorey but does focuse more on backstory of why micheal was a messed up kid, about half way through it goes to teh adult stage ( i think a little more than halfway through to be honest). all in all a great remake, looking forward to the sequel.

"Goes deeper into Michael Myers's story
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As most remakes don't normally deliver this definitely does I love how they show you Michael as a child and what he was resembling and the actor who plays adult Michael is a giant and very scary, its got loads of good killing scene, and action and a few jumpy bits. I wouldn't call it spine chilling but still really enjoyable. definitely recommend

I root for the bad guy ! ! ! !
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very skeptical to initially hear of Rob Zombie remaking Carpenters masterpiece. You really can't top perfection....... BUT what Zombie did was completly diffrent. He was basically pitching to have the story to be retold but thru the eyes of The Boogeyman. He hit it out the park. The new Halloween is a very dark movie. Casting Taylor Mane as Meyers was genius. I would love to see Rob do a remake of II next and skip III and dive into IV.

Great Movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a fan of the Halloween movies, this is definately a movie to add to your collection. Rob Zombie does an awesome job on portraying a young Michael Myers. Lots of blood and gore!! Plus Sherri Moon Zombie does an excellent portrayal of Mrs. Myers.

Routine but watchable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was dreading this remake. While Zombie's first film, House of 1000 Corpses, was enjoyable, his 2nd, The Devil's Rejects, was not so much, maybe because it lacked the sharp sense of humor of Corpses. Hence, I expected his take on Halloween to be more of the same. It was nice to see that I wasn't only partially right. When I heard that Zombie was going to have Michael's mom be a stripper, my first thought was "Oh, Lord." However, his wife, Sheri Moon, made her a very sympathetic woman. You really felt sorry for her when she sees her little boy go ballistic on the world. Other pluses: A cleverly cast Danielle Harris as Annie (a la Annette O'Toole in Smallville) and a nice reconstruction of the famous Myers mask. Sadly, these assets are outweighed by the fact that this remake does nothing Halloween (or rather, Halloween's imitators) didn't already do. For instance, I saw Ronnie's "She gotta nice dumper on her!" coming a mile away. I also disliked how Laurie, Annie, & Lynda basically curse each other incessantly when we first meet them (& they're friends?). I was also surprised that Malcolm McDowell was as wasted here as Christopher Lee was in the Star Wars prequels. I would've thought if anyone in this film would have the opportunity for scenery chewing.... Oh, well. And Michael Myers being white trash? No, just no! This is not deplorable, but it is also not on par with great remakes like The Thing, The Fly, and War of the Worlds.

Halloween.... Sorta.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok, I do have to come out and be honest off the bat, i'm a purist. Normally I don't like any of the remakes, especially in horror, because they usually are a mockery of the original. I will try to give merit where merit is due, and as one person said earlier, this is like alternate universe Michael, but... to be honest, Zombie has absoloutely no idea of what the essence of Michael Myers is. As far as slasher movies go, this is entertaining, there's a terrible plot filled with horrible stereotypes and decent executions. The lighting is ok, the blood and effects are done well, and there is the occasional creepiness, but all in all... this is not a true Halloween movie. I really hope this suffers the same fate as the first Hulk movie, a quiet fade into pop culture history. Michael completely breaks character more than once, and in a completely not Michael way, kills for the wrong reason, is freakishly tall, and wears his mask for the wrong reason. I mean, am I the only one that thinks it was scarier without a motive? That it was more terrifying to see him stalking his prey, and letting them know about it? Like I said this is entertaining, but this really is not the Michael Myers I grew up on. I really hope they never give Rob Zombie production money again... oh too late they announced Halloween 2, or H2 i think they're calling it...

A great remake
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's kinda like a prequel and a remake in the same movie. Though there is quite a bit of profanity, and violence I think it was done quite well.
