Wrong software in package after 4 hours trying to get it to work. Returned product and received new product with correct drivers and software and was working within 15 minutes. I have read of other brands of same type product having the same issues. Other than that is seems to work great so far.

    Great hardware, horrible software

I purchased this item to watch tv on my 27 inch monitor in my kitchen/living room area of my apartment. It's only really for when I'm cooking or relaxing in the living room. So it's not my primary tv source thank God. That is in my bedroom. I have Windows 8 with my 27 inch monitor extended off my laptop. Some times the program just randomly locks up and crashes, usually (always) when I move the program from my 27 inch monitor to my laptop screen and try to maximize, the program crashes.. It's works fine on the 27 inch though. Also, My tv in my bedroom was able to have my analog channels on whole numbered tv stations (1,2,3,4... 25...45.. etc).. and then my HD channels on decimal numbers .. so, NBC would be channel 5, and its HD affiliate would be 5.1... this stupid thing puts my analog stations from 1 to 100.. then puts my HD channels in the 2000's out of order, with no labels. They expect you to label every channel yourself.. Some of them are labeled 99.4 or something but it's really annoying as I have not memorized every channel that my service provider offers.. Next switching from channel to channel takes a while sometimes.. some times the average load time is 2 to 5 seconds.. that's a long time if you are channel surfing. Also, my 42 inch displays HD channels pretty clear.. although the clarity is decent on my 27 inch I feel it doesn't compare to the 42 inch which being a smaller image it should be better.. btw this monitor is a 27 inch LED samsung, and the 42 inch tv in the bedroom is a LCD sharp.. so i'd expect the better quality from the 27 inch.. Finally, the remote sometimes turns on the device and sometimes does not... This product is nice when it's working but it definitely was designed to make money and not with the user in mind. It is not worth 79.99 and I'm glad I did not pay that much for this device. ..

Great Product - MUST UPDATE to WinTV 7.0.28292 +

The product is very good but the WinTV 7 software on the CD in the box is old and buggie. The auto update does not function out of the box. So go to the Hauppauge website and get WinTV Version 7.0.28292 or higher. The product is very good with the right software.

    Works great with comcast cable

Bought this for my new laptop that I'm using more like a desktop. Connected it to my Comcast cable after I installed a splitter at the input to my modem. Plugged into the USB port and opened Windows Media Center (windows 7). It took about a half hour to configure and scan all the channels but when it was done all the channels I expected to get were there.....the analog stations like ESPN, Comedy Central, etc and HD versions of all my locals. The guide data loaded up in WMC and I setup a couple of shows to record. Other tuner cards I'd had in the past for desktop computers did not go this well, so I'm very pleased.

    Love this!

I've been using this for over six months now on an ancient laptop I have set up in front of my treadmill. This thing is AWESOME! It catches channels that I don't get on the upstairs tv with a much bigger antennae attached. It is a bit of an energy and memory hog, so on the laptop (over 5 years old) I can't run the tv tuner and another memory intensive program. The WinTV program works fantastic, and the picture is crystal clear. Love it, love it, love it. I plan to buy another one (or two) for the other pcs in the house!!!!

    Good TV Tuner

The Hauppauge TV HD Stick USB 2.0 TV Tuner with PVR is very easy to assemble. I had some initial issues with the configuration through Windows Media Center, but on a second attempt I was able to get the device working correctly. The box comes with the TV Tuner, a credit card size remote control and a mini antenna that can be used in case an end user does not have digital cable. I configured the device for use with a digital cable connection. It is not necessary to have a desktop cable box. I plugged in the cable connection straight from the wall jack and after configuration was able to pick up 70 channels. The first time I connected the cable to the TV Tuner but apparently it wasn't tight enough (even though it was pretty tight!) and only picked up 13 channels. After unscrewing and re-screwing the cable connection the second time around I picked up 70 channels.

with windows media center you can use more than 1 so I can record one show and watch another, or record 2 shows at once. Remote is small and the buttons stick I little.

    I have a choppy video

I have my pc hooked to home theater projector and my roof antenna run into this usb tv tuner card. The set up was very easy and the picture quality is great. However, if I maximize the size of the video to fill the screen, the video is extremely choppy. I'm not sure if this is a graphics card issue or what. I know that this tv tuner uses a lot of power from your graphics card. I'm running the nividia 7100 with 256mb graphics card. If it's not the graphics card, then this is a horrible buy, but not sure what would be better. 3 stars until I determine why the choppy video.

Worth the money and the effort

I was paying nearly $100 a month for cable, no premiums, just some HD channels. I paid less than $70 one time for the Hauppauge TV HD Stick USB 2.0 TV Tuner with PVR and I get over 25 channels, most in HD over the air, for free. The installation is a bit tricky. Luckily, there was a young man at Best Buy who walked me through it. When the program says that the tuner is not found, you have to go into the step up and select the correct tuner. For some reason, the install program installs two and defaults to the bogus one.

It Worked! Cable TV or Video to PC

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone about what this device could actually do. I had to buy it to find out. Not sure why it seems as though nobody has ever used a TV tuner before (including the cable guy installing the box who said "man, you can do that?"), but I purchased anyway. It works well. I plugged it directly into the output feed coming from my digital cable box, then into my PC via the provided USB cable. I imagine the faster your processor the better the output on the screen, but my picture is great and smooth. I had to install it via the component cables instead of the coax (not included) and change the channel with the supplied remote, but works 100%. Also, it's good to know that I can hook up any external device that has component cable ports - PS3, XBox, Video Camera, Etc. I can even record or take pics of the feed from the software provided. I totally recommend!

Use this to record on my PC. It was soo easy to install. I didn't install the software that came with the device. I let Windows 7 recognize the device and use Windows Media. Works great!

One thing I didn't see right away is that the little antenna extends. Just pull on the tip near the end. I am sure that good picture quality & sound will depend on how strong the signal is in relation to where you are, like in a building, car, or Office. On what floor, ect. Your going to have to play around with it in different locations. Overall, I think it's a nice product now that the digital station signals are being broadcast.

I bought this product so I could display a game console on my PC during talks about game development. For that purpose, with a few tweaks of some hidden settings, it works. The software crashes on launch more times then it works. It is really slow to start and forces a reboot to properly close. However, once it's up, it works for the purpose I bought it. If I needed a reliable solution, I wouldn't buy this product. I don't know how it works as an HDTV tuner, because I have not interest in that.

    * Setup is as easy as plugging the stick into a USB port, cancelling the Windows "New Hardware Found" wizard, running the "Install Drivers" app from the included CD, and running the WinTV setup. WinTV will scan your available cable stations, HDTV, and analog TV stations. * Connection input options include composite video (RCA jack), L and R audio RCA jacks, a standard "F" connector, and an S-video jack. * The included antenna picked up all HDTV stations in my area. * The software will also scan analog TV stations, if any are still broadcasting. * Default video is in the form of .ts files, which my copy of Nero encoded with easily. I have yet to see any dropped frames. * USB powers the device, so there's no additional power needed. I couldn't be happier with this device. Not only can I copy old tapes to video for DVD burns, but I can also watch HDTV on my laptop in airports.

Works great with Windows Media Center, controller is only weak part, but is compatiable with other Hauppauge controllers so if you have a full size Hauppauge controller from a old device it will work.

In theory it's a great idea. In practice, its performance is poor. It freezes up way too much, and works less than half the time. If you're really desperate to get one like I was after my tv stopped working, get it and have much patience. If you can wait, just save up for a new tv.

Great Price; Better with Snapstream software

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

On my first attempt to use this as a QAM cable tuner, the installation into "Windows Media Center" was terrible. You had to install a bunch of non-OEM patches to get any QAM channels. WinTV is terrible too as no program guide. It worked the best once I spent an extra $100 and installed Snapstream BeyondTV which gave me up to 40 QAM channels compared to 25 QAM channels with some basic channels missing which supports both Windows devices and iPods.

Is a good way to watch some tv when you are working on the computer. Although is not exactly the best idea to make it your main tv set. It needs much more to run than it says in the box, my cpu is faster than the min required and this software runs to slow. Some where in the manual they recommend to download and install the latest version of the software from their website, and that is really a good idea cause the one in the cd doesnt works properly.
