Works perfect!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After years of using ATI All-In-Wonder video cards and software, and after building a new computer, ( I7 965 Quad core, 3gb RAM, dual raid 10,000 rpm drives, etc, etc,) .. I thought I would have to spend a fortune to get the perfect video/TV capture card,...... NOT!...... I read some of the bad reviews on this and was a little weary of purchasing,... how could something so small and inexpensive do what " I " wanted it to do? ... but since BestBuy has a great return policy, I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a try,.... It took about 15 minutes to set up, and it works GREAT!!! I've tried everything I can think of to make it crash/ lock-up,... and it works perfect. My suggestion to those leaving bad reviews,.... BUY YOURSELF A BETTER COMPUTER ! ! !

Okay Tv Tuner, Good for coping tapes and DVR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good product for the money. very limited for channels on cable, most channels are encripted. Great for transfering old video from tape to computer and movies from DVR, but you will need editing software. Is a little difficult to understand with directions, basically all trial and error.Very good for copying movies for kids.

Big Bang for the buck
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned 4 or 5 Happauge products over the years. Not surprised, with the easy setup in Windows 7, worked great with Media Center, and the Win7 app. worked great Keep up the good work Happauge and thanks Best Buy for your web site showed in stock and was.

Great little tuner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With the right antenna this thing will work great. This worked great on my Windows 7 Media Center. I returned it because I wanted to be able to record and watch at the same time. I would recommend if you are not going to record or watch overlapping show schedules. I was very impressed.

Nice hardware. Software, not so much
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My main purpose for buying the tv tuner was to capture old vhs tapes so I could transfer them to dvd. Thank goodness for 3rd party video capture software programs. WinTV is far from stable on my newly purchased HP desktop (also bought from best buy). USB turner is great (does get hot at times) when used with non-Happauge software.

Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked perfectly with my windows 7 Dell XPS. Received 20+ digitial (ATSC) channels using the portable antenna supplied with it. I live on ground floor and even my cell phone signal reception is weak there. I put the portable antenna outside window and I received blu-ray quality HD channels like CBS CNBC ABC and lot more. Planning to buy a digital antenna with long cable so I can receive more channels.

Major Overheating issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are alot of good reviews for this product, but they are all from people who just installed it. I've had the unit for over 5 months and it overheats even when not in use. I've had it hanging from my pc's usb for the past 5 months without noticing the problem. Then when I switched cable modems I went to pull the coax out, and wow the tv tuner usb was hot to the touch. It won't last much longer and Best Buy won't give me my money back, because its past the 30days. As for the picture its pretty grainy, I've switched coax cables, usb ports, and moved all electrical wiring from the unit but the graininess doesn't go away. If you google Wintv-hvr 950q overheating, others have had the same issue. Don't buy this, you may damage other components in your pc.

Good bark no teeth
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installation was straight forward, but need not work. Even with the newest drivers and software never could get the lower channels (2-63) to be mapped in. The other channels came in clear and were great to look at. The other issues was that there was no good way to see what was coming on the different channels. (channel guide) MS Media Center has a guide, but the signal never stayed stronger enough to really watch the channel This device is going back this week end, I am a very unhappy tech-er at the moment. ;-) Customer service was bad, the guy hung up on me. While I was trying to get help.

Worth the time and money if you will use it.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a new all-in-one PC and this device allows me to watch TV on my PC and I love it. It took a bit to properly set it up as I have DirecTV but now it runs like a champ and I have zero complaints.

Crashed computer twice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installed easily but remote did not work from start. Unit worked great for 4 days and then picture froze and usb port malfunctioned. Returned to store and exchanged for another one. New one would not install because USB port still not working. Formatted computer, and reinstalled windows, USB port now working, inserted device into USB and it killed the port again, had to reinstall windows again. Returned product to Best Buy for a refund.

Over all good product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bad: the software that came with it was a pain, I had to re install 4 times, my advice is to downlaod it from the website as it works better this way. Windows media center said it found 16 channelles, I was disappointed but when I actually started watching, I found that there are more than a hundred, but for some reason windows media center doesn't mention them on the screen untill you start watching. Good: It's amazing if you actually have some HD channelles. using my cable it Found more chan than my big screen TV.

Vista and 950Q don't mix
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off...the software is not compatible with Vista. You'll get an error that says "Tool for creating autoplay cd and dvd discs has stopped working". So you can pretty much kiss WinTV goodbye because there is no way around this. Hauppauge's support was no help either...they suggested that I disable the autoplay feature and install the software first directly from the CD's "setup.exe" file, and if that didn't work then to download the software and the most recent drivers from the support page at their website. Well...neither worked. I spent two days scouring the internet for any solutions and I haven't found any that worked. The tuner itself will work with Windows Media Center, but you have to add the Media Center plug-ins from Hauppauge's website, but it is important to note that you FIRST must set up a digital antenna signal BEFORE you set up the cable or satellite signal. Basically, you have to run the setup twice. This is very frustrating because you have to have the correct drivers installed and you can't just install them from the CD because of the problems mentioned above...you have to install them from their website. So...the tuner does work, but it will ONLY give you HD channels that are broadcast locally. So if you have HD channels on cable or satellite, then you are out of luck. The recorder works fine, but it is very limited because of the software conflicts....(It's more of a hassle than it needs to be.) Overall, I think Hauppauge needs to work out the kinks for Vista. It's not worth the headache trying to get this product to do what it says it does.

Doesn't work with XBOX 360
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this hoping to use it not only for TV but also for playing my Xbox 360 through my laptop. While it does theoretically work, the connection is so slow and choppy it is not playable. The TV aspect works ok.. it lags a little also. And it doesnt matter what type of PC you have, it's going to be slow. I know this b/c my laptop is state-of-the-art ultra fast gaming rig and yes it did have usb 2.0. Still very slow and choppy on the video.

Less than perfect software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking to remove one of my cable boxes and record HD over the air, or from the cable coax connected to this USB Tuner. Using a just bought Win7 i5 8gb laptop, the initial install was easy and I then updated the drivers as recommended. The software takes forever to "search" for channels on the antenna or with the cable coax. Sometimes the program just "freezes" and appears to be running in task manager but it takes a Win7 reboot to get it to respond. Emailed tech support - their "canned answer" to why channels on my tv's tuner are viewable but not on the WinTv was "Re-install". I was told that over and over. I ended up using the S-video output and getting the cable box back which is not at all what i wanted because I cant record in 1080i HD with svideo. If I had a large powerful antenna, it might be worth the $$. But the software is a nightmare. I tried using MS Media and it worked better but still couldnt find several channels that my Dynex TV found easily.

complete jun stay away
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a IT I build PC's so more or less I know what I'm dealing with. Ok first this unit runs on the hot side heat kills electronics tv-computer-your stereo. Next I run a triple boot computer something you cant get at best buy ;) XP-Windows7-Ubuntu linux 9.10 . First I installed in XP installation was good. But WinTV7 would crash, tried other version and other older drivers all failed. Had Better luck in Windows 7 but still would crash not stable, must crashes would be after the unit got hot, as I stated above. Under Linux Ubuntu 9.10 32 bit I had ok luck but still did not find a program that liked this tuner. More or less I would stay away, from this product, the small the hotter it will run. Get a bigger unit that is well ventilated or go with a PCI model. The tuning was slow and took way to long in my opinion. I bought this on sale over the Thanks giving Weekend fo $50 it carped out in less then a week. Hope this helps you decide. The brand it's self does make a good product but this model is a lemon.

great product for price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this when moving. Had my TVs shipped and was left with net and cable access but no way to watch. Got this hoping for just a few channels, but got more channels than hoped; works and looks great! Remote included and overall quality were excellent!
